xSkeletalx 4 Posted July 30, 2015 Having only started playing Dayz in the last three days, I've had a really hard time getting started. I've managed to find bags, food, and at least one usable gun each time I've respawned, but I keep getting KOS'd, mostly by people who look pretty well geared. This happens whether I'm on a server with 20+ people, or even one or two other players, and it's amazing how long the odds of running into someone would actually be on a really low pop server like that. I'm sure I need to improve my awareness and knowledge of the game (I find myself running in random directions, as I don't know where I am or where anything is!) but while I do so, are there any servers which tend to be a bit more welcoming to newer players? I'm not looking for a no-PVP-at-all kind of situation, but one where people are more likely to talk first, and possibly with groups looking for new members, so I can actually learn the game without being killed the moment I find something useful! ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted July 30, 2015 Go find yourself a nice low pop 1PP server. Kick back and enjoy the soothing sounds of that one bird loop and enjoy a zombie-less apocalypse at your leisure. Seriously though, just play on a low pop until you understand what you are doing a little better.
Parazight 1599 Posted July 30, 2015 Maybe try private servers.
BeefBacon 1185 Posted July 30, 2015 Gents of Novo is a good server. It's 3pp but the community is so good I don't care. You'll get shot outside of Novo, absolutely, but Novo is a safe town so it's good to head there and chat with people, trade, maybe make some friends that you can play with if you don't know anybody who plays DayZ.

Although it is usually pretty highly populated so as bb said, you will be at risk outside of novo and its a pretty far jog from the coast. But once there you almost always run in to people to trade with or loot houses with in town without fear of getting whacked.
Evil Minion 943 Posted August 4, 2015 (edited) Go find yourself a nice low pop 1PP server.I would actually recommend medium to high population first person private servers. It's a little harder as there are more players around that might be hostile but in general you get the best first impressions without developing bad habits. Especially you won't come to expect getting tons of loot for little to no effort. If PvE and survival actually become a thing low population servers might work fine but for now it's just too much of a dry run.
