My first day in DayZ

Howdy folks

Yesterday i finally got my hands on to the legendary DayZ. As many of my mates adviced to stay away from it (It has been WIP forever and never finishes, looks like poopoo graphs , You will frustrate) Me and my brother decided to take leap to it. I spent 15minutes customizing my character and about 1 hour looking various guides while installing was in process and after it was done.

As i have played EVE online before im familiar with the feeling that you might lose things and as hardcore player im always up for challenges.

 

First try

Okey i spawned in beach and immediately went for first shack to find clothes. I was lucky to have backback and axe and some food and drinks in first shack. Then i decided to go in woods because i heard roads and beach is not safe (20people on server) as i had run like 10 minutes i noticed barn and went inside. Found plenty ammo (no weapon) and binoculars. I ran again in forest (no glue what i was searching but i thought getting inland and maybe making a fire and chasing wildlife would be good option. I noticed another barn and hunting stand and few houses. I binoculared around it like 10 minutes until i gathered my courage (mind saying this is a bad idea because it was slightly bigger place that i had been before) I went to first house and boom. Shots fired at me. I yell "Friendly NOOB DONT SHOOT". and went to crouch inside building. After 5 sec there was a guy with AK and shot me without further talking.

 

Okey that was thrilling. Back to start 2. try 

 

This time i spawned in chernogorsk docking bay. I ran in middle of street and found pistol and 10 jacket and vests and plenty gear lying on ground in 1 big pile. I took everything i could fast and ran in forest. After that i logged out and went low pop server to maybe get better hang of buttons and take my time to get myself some peace to familize with buttons. Well after i looted every building in chernogorsk i went on roof of school building in game. in IRL i texted my brother lol i got us all gear to get ourself started from weapons to tents and all that kind of poopoo. I accidently hit forward button  and fall 0.5m to roof of door it glitched and i was moved to edge and fell from that roof and it moved me to ground (even thou school roofs main entrance roof is flat)and i died

Well back to square one (3.th time). I woke up near some road and i could see island. No town for 3min walk away neither direction. Well i decided well there is satellite and castle in island. I swam there but i got cold, hungry and thirsty and was flashing orange warning sings for those sybtoms. I got frustrated and jumped off the castle.

 

Back to square one (4.th time)

I went chernogorsk because that seemed good place for start as low pop server there was plenty loot without much risk.  There was 3 guy on server when i logged. Walked to first house in chernogorsk and look what i found. A fellow player with axe. He stops and i stop. I run other way and he run other way and i was like shouting DONT KILL ME DONT KILL ME DONT KILL ME. (Fresh spawn) . I gathered loot and was quite happy to find plenty ammo with no weapons. I found hockey stick thou. And all other useful stuff. I met my first zombie close taking me offguard (scared the poopoo out of me). I hit zombietta to the head multiple times. Managed to kill it but i bled to death even thou i tried to make bandage (my aim was quite bad it seems or zombies are harder than i tought. Seen video somene punch zombie but blaargh) I was not 100% aware if i managed to bandage myself correctly as i used raggs and still passed out.

 

Back to square one (5.th time) Went low pop server, chernogorsk, gathered clothes, water and supplies i could, and i found first time a weapon. SOmekind supressor pistol with funny name. No ammo thou. Found shotgun, winchester and sportster . BUT no ammo. I ran in safe location and logged out far from town. I was thinking maybe next time i head with these materials to make a camp.

I have axe, rags, meds, warmup kit, saline, 2 different gun and 2 full canteens of water. Short on food thou but i think if i find animals i will do alone in forest with higher player count. I ended my todays playing and as summary i must say it was FUN! I really tought this might be PooPOo experience as my friends told me but NO. It was FUN even thou i had setbacks . Only death i regret and was annoin was that falling from roof but shit happens. Hadnt had this sense of fear of losing things and for ages. And its much more straightforward than eve or classic 90's hard games. 

 

Next time i will try to co-op with my brother with these aims. Hope you enjoyed reading other peoples experiences

OH FEW QUESTIONS

- Do i get sick drinking pond? I got information that you could not and you could.

- Can you live on hunting without having wire/ fishing rod ? As i looted many builidngs i dont get green status for eating with rare cans i find. So i assume i must go hunting.

Nice to read your experience man, I remember my first few deaths, first being I didn't eat or anything and collapsed and died lol. In answer to your questions, yes if you drink from the ponds there is a good chance you will get sick and die, but you can get energised from tin food, look out for rice, tactical bacon and peaches, they seem to do the best. You can hunt animals but they are pretty rare and you'll have to travel north to find them, then make a fire etc to cook the meat.

how does it indicate im poisoned if i drinked from pond? 
 

I already drinked belly full with latest save water from pond i found. 

 

Character did not indicate anything to be wrong but may it come later on or were i just lucky? Anyway cure is vitamins and charcoal for that ?

Problem with the food & ammo it seems i have bad luck with drops because all i find is poopoo and not food and ammo. Even thou i emptied whole cherno on 3 different 1-5 player servers.

As I understand it, if your healthy when you drink pond water there is a low risk of getting cholera if you are low on health etc then the risk is higher, it will say sickness in your stats if you get it, your screen will go blurry and eventually you will die, the cure is antibiotics and to stay hydrated.

 

I can't say I have ever had a problem finding food if I am honest, check every building you can, under beds and behind doors are usually places that are missed.

Welcome to Chernarus and good luck out there! I've never gotten sick drinking from the ponds but I think it is something that can happen.

If you have a canteen and find purification tablets you can purify your water. Your character spawns needing food but once you've stuffed yourself with rice and as many tins as you can find and he says energized you should stay fed for a while and it's easy to not get hungry then. 

 

Hunting and cooking is good though and better for you and much more entertaining I think. Can do some of the best crafting with animal skins as well like the improvised backpack etc

By the way, Here's a tip. Stick to green or black clothing. Do that and i promise you'll survive a lot of encounters. Look for protective items, always take any helmet you can get. They all protect you from at least something. Press vests are your best friend, they let you carry things, and they protect you from every bullet in-game at least once. To find a press vest, loot hospitals, train stations, and police stations. Always stock up on food and drink, you should always have medical items on you, two of the last tips, if somebody is shooting at you, zigzag until you find a safe area to hide. If you get in a fist fight you should lean (Q,E) to avoid getting hit in the face, 3 face shots is a knock out. Also if you find a rock and pepple texture on the road, scroll and click "Search for stones" once you get one equip it in your hands and scroll again and click "Make improvised knife", that way you can open cans, cut rags, cut branches, and inflict serious damage on bandits!

Well been playing now 3 nights. So i have 4 nights (or Dayz) under my belt.

 

-> Did characters to 3 different private server and 1 public server.

 

-> Found a place i like. I call it  safe heaven. It takes about 10 minutes from certain spawn to find and i usually find ammo / food / drinks / clothes there. I Grouped up with first guy i met and spawned same tim and been playing all the time with that guy (DinO). Also brother hooked up so we are 3 now.

 

On all servers we have plenty food, drinks, many different weapons each. Today's total sum was 

AKM

MP7

SKS - With Scope and black colouring

winchester

pistol gripped shotgun (my favorite for ZED)

 

On all those 4 servers. Managed to find some combat vests with full camo.

 

Oh and second day i ran with that random guy to a truck on middle of town. We heard some shooting so we took the truck and learned how to drive and drove like half the continent ttrough :D Best time on Dayz. Reminded me of that zombieland movie. We would sometimes drive in town shoot zombies and keep going. It was miracle we didint get shot at. That fun ended thou in elektro when zombie crawled under truck and we flew on bus station. We managed to get out of it alive but truck was done for it. We shot truck's tires and kept going back to safe haven. (okey ofcourse on road to safe heaven we get ambushed but me and dino managed to survive)

 

STill getting bit scared of those zombies tho. THeres just something disturbing :) I always shoot em even thou i could melee and i know i should melee because of sound but i really hate zombies.

 

Thanks this far guys. For some reason i have had no problem with food and drink after the first day. Managed to get few player kills also but mainly because they attacked me and didint respond me when i said friendly.

You're probably better off picking up a camo boonie hat or baseball cap than most helmets - especially brightly coloured helmets.

Loved reading your experiences as a new player. My first days were the minute the game became available on Steam so there were only a couple guns, no trucks, zombies running through all objects, etc. This is a great time to be a new player so enjoy (not that I didnt enjoy it. Seeing the progression of the game from day 1 has been awesome. I remember back when we could put bananas in chest holsters! lol).

Skate helmet will protect you from a few hits of a melee weapon. Hardhats are good for blunt objects and fists.
