Stabbing, slicing, and striking

Recommended Posts

If you're wondering what I mean, I'm speaking of different ways a weapon can be swung/utilized.

Currently, the only way I can describe the current way to swing a melee weapon is a vertical strike. It's great for blunt attacks, or trying to hit the top of the head.

There is an animation for being pushed to the ground that isn't in use yet, which leads me to think weapons will have a real weight that can knock you off balance eventually.

Which leads me to this thought:

If you had the ability to slice horizontally as well, this would have a better chance to knock them to the ground than to just beat them into the ground.

Or if you could stab with weapons, depending on how pointy the end is, you could push people backwards or push them along forward if you're taking them somewhere and they don't want to move. So instead of yelling for someone to move, you nudge them along.

I feel if something like this wasn't thought about, it would be useful to give weapons different ideal ways of being used. Like, horizontal slice with a bat until they're down, then vertical strike when they're on the ground to beat their head in.

What do people think?

Two simple attacks and a block would be fine. Small attack, large attack. Many much simpler games have it so it shouldn't be too hard to do. The melee system we have now is quite broken. You'd think that a person weilding an axe or machete would have no problem taking out an unarmed attacker but due to its ridicoulness its often the opposite.

press V for flashknife!

*SWISH*

I think a shove would be useful and fun at least, would provide good jostling and friends and I wouldn't need to shoot around eachothers head / at eachothers feet for boredom reduction therapy.
