Maybe a suicide-to-spawn-point-you-want prevention device?

Could just be pure luck, but devs could have decided to implement a method of preventing you from spawning in different areas within a certain time frame, or something along those lines? Complete speculation based on no evidence, but last time I tried to get a Svet spawn, I ended up at the different spawns between Berezino and Elektro literally every single time.

I delivered myself a coat with my other account after 20+ suicides to get anywhere close.

Results walking with a coat from 1 minute in.

1 hour 2 minutes

4.5km

At 40 minutes even with a coat cold status came on and off for the remainder.

Hunger went from brown to red about 45 minutes, thirst stayed at yellow/green from onset at about 15-20 until unconcious.

Moral of the story: don't waste your time walking. It will literally kill you.

Yeah, this is about what I expected. With warmer clothes you probably would have made it even further given your thirst level.

I'm not masochistic enough to try that again but does a hat or the type, or type of coat make a difference?

I thought I read about the new hunting jacket or m65 causing overheating?

What about a ghillie suit?

I'll still walk sometimes like when hunting deer though.

So everything you wear has different heat values. Different coats have different effects, different shoes, etc. For example wellies are the warmest boots available. All that said, I certainly won't be doing this again anytime soon, not at least until we see what the stamina system is like. :)

I was having issues with overheating with the M65 jacket, but since, I've used pretty much the same setup and not overheated. I'm assuming I had some kind of new, not too awful illness. Just a fever or something.

That said, I don't remember the last time I was cold. Pretty much the second I hit the north & got my loot, the status effect just didn't exist for me.

Are you aware of a current table for the insulation values? If I don't have a truck I tend to move slow and stop and observe frequently. I laid prone and watched an out of gas truck from a house across the street for an hour and a half yesterday, I don't normally kos but I would have sent anyone who touched the door handle back to the coast while I was waiting for the server to reset.

Ha, can't wait till the game becomes actually difficult and you can't cheat your way into hydrated/energized status by abusing apple trees and berry bushes.

We'll see who will delete the game first then.

Only one way to respond to this ^  Some people, jeez.  Thanks Major Kong.

Well, I've been to one world fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing I ever heard come over a set of earphones.

I'm not aware of any such table, I just remember watching a video early in the days of heat comfort which had some information.

I found a slightly outdated one waiting for the wife at the gym t'nite. If I had the right gear I think I could do close to an hour twenty and 7 km which says they're pretty "balanced" for when stamina kicks in.

Honestly I kinda hope they don't cater to everyone who is wanting this house/building for this piece of gear and throw in more RNG to make this a real shtf sim.

Me too. The more predictable the game is, the less I want to play it. When 0.55 hit Stable with the completely crazy and random loot, I was happily revisiting every single area of the map and finding all kinds of crazy stuff in crazy places. I know it should never be quite that way again, but I really did the love the unpredictability.

I played 3000+ hours of Oblivion GOTY and as fun as being a superhuman mage being able to carry 2500lbs by busting the right spell combos and one shotting the biggest baddest AI...

Something new that keeps a guy on his toes and learning something new everyday would be a nice change of pace.

I like the way this is shaping up though, I don't have quick cat like reflexes but I've got infinite patience for the long game.

Well, I've been to one world fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing I ever heard come over a set of earphones.

Do you actually think that being able to "use" berry bush or an apple tree for as long as you want and create in the process, in theory, infinite amount of food, is a properly working mechanic?

I've never maintained that one needs to forage to survive and certainly not for 20 minutes. I specifically advise against this in my thread on the subject. But if people are starving to death or otherwise having difficulty, foraging is the most dependable and universally available strategy to offer people. Doing what you're doing is not the most helpful advice to a new player not familiar with the map or what buildings people frequently visit. Specifically, foraging is particularly useful in disproving the claim that it's impossible not to die by starvation.

I love that there are people out there that are expert scavengers but that's not the only way to play just as living off the land is not. Dismissing a perfectly legitimate and useful strategy to get energy from foraging by describing it as "spamming use on trees" is rude at best.

Should I just call it: abusing game mechanics?

Haha no , but if you look at who Ebrim was quoting and what he said , Ebrim was responding to the kids stupidity (and it is just that) of foraging ... Kiddies like sniperZ are all mad cuz they die when they look for berries so he's trying to misinform people by telling them to sprint everywhere and forget about berries , berries save lives you fools !!!

Oh God, another one.

Are you people just mad that someone can survive without using your precious "tactic"?

I even decided to see if anything changed in exp since the last time I played it (a couple of days ago). Loged in this morning.  Took me 15 minutes since spawning to get energized and hydrated. No fruits used.

Playing smart = profit.

Btw, I can believe how a simple post containing: "Guys you can survive just fine without using cheap tactics." started a shitstorm and how many people decided to throw insults my way for no reason.

So finished my walking test and I went unconscious in 35:27:

Walking: 35:27

Jogging: 34:00

Sprinting: 23:11

----------------------------

All these are from spawn, wherever I spawned at one speed until I went unconscious. The obvious anomaly is walking but there's a very easy explanation for that: cold. Unfortunately, walking just doesn't make you very warm and I was unable to find warm clothing fast enough to prevent the cold status. What this means is that walking is very very efficient in a calories burnt per second measurement. How do I know it's crazy efficient? Well, by the time I went unconscious walking I was only yellow thirsty whereas went I dropped while jogging/sprinting I was dying of dehydration. Cold only effects energy, not hydration and it's the cold that actually made me collapse by sapping my energy and less the walking. Without the cold status, maybe I could have made it an hour or more gauging by my thirst level.

The only real takeaway from these tests is confirmation that sprinting is most expensive, jogging is less expensive and walking is quite cheap. This of course makes sense but it hasn't always been the case so it's useful to at least have it confirmed, for me anyway. All of this information could inform strategy but I don't think it dictates strategy to any extent.

Interesting. Now the onlt thing we need is a way to measure how much distance you covered in each of the attempts.

Ok i dont know how they wanna fix this build until next week there is so much broken atm its realy bad.

I found a 1911 engraved with ammo put it in my backpack and then put another weapon in and the 1911disappeared.

Then i put a Full Attachable pouche in and its gone. But the worst thing happened when i found my first Mp5 i had 3 mags

and load the weapon but then i get chased by 2 guys and the ammo disappeared from the Mp5 and i coulden´t shoot at all.

Then i try to load the Gun but its not Possible and i cant change to another weapon no Melee or other gun the Mp5 just stuck in my hand.

I got killed like a Cow without a chance to do anything realy annoying.

Edit: I diden´t use the Hotbar at all so that coulden´t be the Reason for that.

But, will sprinting for 23 min cover the same distance as jogging for 34min?

Yep, they were comparable distances. This of course makes sense as you are moving 30% longer with a little bit less than a 30% gain in speed according to

. What has changed is that sprinting now takes more energy than jogging which was not the case when this video is made so that sprinting becomes slightly less efficient energy and hydration-wise. If however you are very easily able to attain both, energy and water, that drop in efficiency may be less of a consideration depending upon the player's preferences. Edited by Ebrim

I doubt more than very few people in practice actually forage for more than a couple minutes at a time. Foraging is tedious at best and while it's absolutely possible to do exactly as you describe, the number of people who complain that they starve to death in this game is good evidence that this just simply isn't an option most people want to pursue. I did one test case where I foraged for 20 minutes and got about a bag of rice worth of energy for it but I would never spend 20 minutes in a non-test scenario foraging for 20 minutes and I imagine that applies to most of the playerbase as well. In fact I realized that any time I've spent foraging is probably less than 2 minutes at any particular bush or tree as I often stop after I've gathered 1-3 fruits. So sure, I think it's a game mechanic which arguably could be abused in the "spirit" of the game but sprinting for an hour straight is no less gamey and silly and yet everyone does it because it's far less tedious than foraging. Making something a painful process is a good way to prevent its abuse, I guess some people still might but I'm not sure how much that matters.

Again, if someone is having trouble staying alive, giving them the advice: "learn the map intimately and the buildings where people do and don't go" is far less immediately useful than "supplement your diet with a few berries and apples". They'll learn the former eventually anyway.
