What settings should I use to reduce stress on graphics card?

Ive realized I don't have the best graphics card. I'd like to play DayZ with graphics as high quality as possible. But I do experience some "lag" due to my graphics card.

Will turning off shadows help? What settings should I use to lower stress on my graphics card?

In games like DayZ Standalone it needs to render a lot of distance. This brings the most stress for a graphic card. I would begin with setting the terrain details to very low. Then you can play around with the shadows, clouds and objects. I would disable ambient occlusion and postprocess quality. AntiAliasing on low and play around with the other 3 things. The textures doesn't reduce FPS that much so you can put these a bit higher.

 

Try everything out and play around with the settings. You will figure out eventually which settings will make your game run smooth.

Are you sure it's your graphics card that is stressed? DayZ is very CPU intensive, as it is not currently programmed to utilize more than one CPU core.

I thought DayZ was badly optimized and that things that normally should stress the graphics card actually stresses the CPU instead.

Yeah, this game can't stress a GPU unless your GPU is so ancient that it shouldn't be used to play any game made in the last 6 years or so. It uses about 50% of mine and probably poorly at that.

 

It's your CPU that gets the shit kicked out of it. I OC'ed my 4690k to 4.5ghz and now my lowest FPS, even in cities is about 35. That said, I've turned down a few things. I used this guide to start with: http://dayzintel.com/dayz-guides/dayz-standalone-performance-guide

 

Without knowing what you have, we can't tell you a ton about what might be best for you.
