Any info on the 24 hour cycle bug?

Recommended Posts

I've always wanted to say this..

Not a bug, its a feature.

But seriously - DayZ has always by design operated off of a real time 24 hour clock that is tied to the physical time where the server is located. That said, community rented servers (both private and public) have several options to customize the time on their servers.

- Custom static server startup time

- Accelerated Time

Hi, unless you're with Multiplay who don't allow you to change the start time. As such my server has dropped from 50 people in the evening to less than 10. Most people play in the evening. The time accelerator is good if there is a static start time, but not so good with the 24 hour cycle as any restart occuring after 7pm has hours of night ahead of it unless you set the acceleration to 10+ and then it just starts to get a little silly.

Yes its a nice feature and the twilight period is very nicely done.... but the most time I have to play is after the kids are in bed, so does this mean I can only play in the dark now?

that would be a real pain... and would take the fun out of the game for me...

Agree completely. Means the game is biased away from full time workers and those with families.

Totally. The accelerated time one of my servers is set to 12 to try and keep people on it. Not working really. MPGS needs to refund their subscribers for not having the most basic of features. Haven't they been violating TOS for Bohemia? Originally when private shards were announced there was that pdf that outlined the basic functions and changing time of day was one of them. Here we are 6 months later with nothing.

E.G.: they don't have have a ban list built into their ACP. I have to use Dart and Dart hasn't been working the last few days at all. It'll connect but nothing will show in the list. Honestly, Dart hasn't been working right for at least the last 5-6 weeks. I always have to disconnect and reconnect for anything to show up.

The MOTD is only a 30 second delay at max and their scheduler.xml keeps resetting itself code wise...no joke. The directions they have for setting it doesn't work at all and I have to have them rewrite the code every other week and they blame me every single time for not writing it right FFS. The scheduler is red and looks like shit. MOTD looks great, but the 30 second delay is far too short and streamers and youtubers that are active on my project hate it, as do I.

Their config files are absolutely unlearnable unless you get a ticket in. If you want to turn off the whitelist you have to add an # before the line of code. Like, how am I to know that if there is no instructions on how to use it...magic? When I initially put a ticket in on it they just turned it off instead of telling me how to do it. Took like 3 tickets before they told me how to do it myself.

The ACP itself has a side bar with the footer having all the same options. Its confusing to the eye. Whoever designed the ACP must have been high on dust. The rest of the site is just tons of stuff jammed together. Support forums are an atrocity. Ticket system is email lol and they take forever to get back to you. 4-12...ok guy! More like 18-24 if your lucky.

This is the response I gotfrom Curt Anderson @ Multiplay;-

The Dev's have enforced a ban on always daytime servers, sorry there is nothing we can do about this. I would suggest playing with the time acceleration until you have a balance of day and night as this is most likely how the game will progress anyway.

We are looking for other solutions but can't talk about them currently. Please remember to submit tickets for these questions as i will not always be able to respond.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are paid up a month in advance and have over £100 towards next months fee's. It's a little annoying we're stuck with a server that I don't even want to play on (I personally don't mind night servers, but I like to play with more than 5 other people.) We have pissed off donators and players in our community.

Now I'm happy to have a night-time cycle within the restart cycle, but by not being able to set a static in-game start time I have to set the acceleration at a very high rate to have any chance of seeing sunlight when I am able to play in the evenings.

How dare GSP's adhere to the way the game is meant to be played.

It's not that black-and-white. The "vision" for the game is that you'll play at all times of the day; but, because of real-world constraints in the form of adult responsibilities, there has to be some give and take in order to make that possible. If you don't allow at least a minor amount of manipulation, what you end up with is what many of us face: constant nighttime. Playing in the dark 100% of the time is not fun -- you need a balance.

The renters can adjust the cycle yet are still whining about not being able to play 24//7 day.

The discussion in this thread is about a particular server provider not allowing that option (seemingly despite the fact that they are supposed to).

They're not, thats the point. Learn to read.

Bad press = hurts business. Hicks responded and he's now aware of MPGS not living up to their end of the bargain. They are violating TOS with Bohemia...the end. Like I said, if you read the content we wouldn't even be here so theres that.

To be honest, I loved the 24 hr cycle in the mod, but I can understand that some people can only play for a limited amount of time. Would the time acceleration be able to set up a 4hr day/4 hr night? That seemed to work with dayz origins quite well.

However, to stop people just server hopping when It became night, all servers would have to be linked to the same clock.

I feel like the people that dont ever want to play at night under any circumstances,  are the same types of players that hated the new .55 loot system. This game is supposed to be difficult. In the mod 24/7 day servers were for people who wanted to death match on the coast.

I understand that your upset that your servers doesn't allow you to make the changes that you see fit. But changes like this are likely to be changed by the devs in the future anyway. Hopefully they come up with a way to add a night cycle that doesn't restrict payers to playing in a specific timezone all the time.

May be they can implement a 12 hour or 6 hour time shift, so the people who work during the day can also play in daylight.

The game is meant to only be played at night unless you're an unemployed bum?
