Red_Ensign 990 Posted April 15, 2015 I set my items down after packing up my camp last night. Is persitance turned off and why the hell would you not let us know in advance? I just lost all of my gear, which is fine, but to completely turn off a feature that is integral to the concept and to not announce it? Come on dev's, what the hell? everyone was told. besides, since .55 (and before, for that matter) there was ALWAYS a chance your tent would go byebye. surprise! it went byebye. BCBasher 2465 Posted April 15, 2015 So can I hop back on my public character and drop my tent and start building a camp again? Was there just one wipe or is it server by server, is persistence working right now until next Wednesday at least?
SMoss 2101 Posted April 15, 2015 To note: a couple days of lead time would be appreciated. That way, even those of us that don't have time to log in as soon as the music stops can still have a chance to prepare accordingly. "but we are the devs, and this is alpha!" Does it really hurt you that much to give us a little additional lead time when you may be affecting everyone's gameplay / characters? All I ask for is a little extra time to prepare for your improvements, should they warrant preparing for. I love assisting in testing / getting to play pre-release Alpha. That doesn't mean I should be told one thing only for the opposite to happen. It wouldn't hurt us at all. There was no ulterior plot here to wait until the last minute with an update on today's maintenance which all things considered was not regular maintenance (revert to previous loot spawning system). Semantics? Feel free to call it such if you please, however the statement from april 9 still stands: persistence wipes will no longer be part of regular wednesday maintenance. Today was different, hence the notifications/warnings in the Status Report, on BattlEye as well as Twitter. I appreciate that you do not use Twitter, but messages from our #dayzdevteam Twitter account also do appear here on the forums in the "Devtracker" section: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/224040-twitter-dayzdevteam-persistence-is-scheduled-to-be-wiped-tomorrow-during-maintenance/. I posted that tweet as soon as I got the info, and if it constitutes as a fail that I forgot to post in the topic which at that time had been created six days prior; well, here I am. I'll take that one on my cape. All things considered though, please do feel free to keep an eye on the "Devtracker" section, as useful info also passes through in there: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/138-devtracker/

Was there just one wipe or is it server by server, is persistence working right now until next Wednesday at least? You should be good to go BCBasher; the wipe was performed during todays maintenance, so it's all done with. Persistence is forced "on" on both public/private hive, but please be advised though, on private shards the persistence can be reset on request from server admins. "...is persistence working right now until next Wednesday at least?": It should be, but as with so many other features/mechanics/systems in DayZ; only thorough testing will truly test the mettle of the persistence. If you run into any issues though, please do file them on the Feedback Tracker: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/
TimF 79 Posted April 16, 2015 (edited) Notification was given as soon as was possible. As mentioned above, follow those key points when approaching the Early Access and you should (hopefully) have a good time.May I respectfully make a suggestion? While I *completely* understand where you are coming from and how early access works and appreciate the hard work from all you guys - I also understand that it sucks as a player of the game to lose a bunch of stuff you worked for, even if you knew you could lose it at some point. While your defense of the process is completely understandable, probably the message your customers want to hear is "Yeah man that sucks, sorry but we couldn't avoid it". A lot of people don't need reminding of the truth, they just need someone to commiserate. Edited April 16, 2015 by TimF
Schweinsteiger 107 Posted April 16, 2015 I read the update notes and the dev tracker religiously. It isn't hard to stay in the loop.

radar1029 28 Posted April 19, 2015 So i'm just curious, but do server owners have an option to wipe persistent servers? I packed up prior to the maintenance wipe on Wednesday. On Thursday, I went in, setup camp and dug a garden. Logged in Friday night and there was no sign of camp, or garden... I doubt it was found on a low pop server in a very remote spot. Jonah_Hobbes 171 Posted April 20, 2015 (edited) I've never really played a lot on persistent servers but have joined one. Swinging through the NW Airfield, everything of value was looted. My understanding, (I could be way off here), of loot spawning is that If I pick up an item another random item spawns within a 1 km radius. Does destroying an item, eating cans, using rags, etc cause another random item to spawn? Should then on persistent servers, players be recycling junk items i.e destroying them? Can items be destroyed in fires? Does a ruined item still count as an item? Forgive me ignorance but I've never been into building fires since the mod, so have no idea the effect it has on items. What about throwing things in lakes? If you could destroy items in a fire what is to stop a group of players building a fire at the NW airfield and burning all the junk items to attempt to spawn guns, etc?
