further away from Wednesday the KOS comes on strong

...a lot of loot seems to be getting sparse on the private hives

What you're experiencing is not as intended.  This is a private hive bug

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/223597-service-alert-private-shard-persistence/

After spending the entirety of the weekend hopping between private shards across all GSPs, respawning on the beach and going through the progression and goal of getting to Stary Jar - I've determined that there is infact an issue with persistence on private shards operating with high player bases past 48 hours uptime (storage)

Best way to keep very full, bordering on overstuffed is to quickly scratch out a garden plot and plant pumpkins.

Go loot a bit and come back in 15 mins and you have ripe pumpkins.

They take 9 slots in a backpack so best to eat them right off the vine.  They are very large and one can fill you up to stuffed and hydrated.

Pick the others and stash them, or carry one with you.  If you can find pumpkin seeds you never have to get hungry again.

Screw the apples.. Killing an other player would give me food, loot and a few seconds of adrenaline. The day i'm standing in a game picking apples for 30 min is the day i uninstall and go study instead.

Well there's very big chance you just ruin everything the other guy has and you just wasted your ammo on nothing.

Currently carrying 12 seeds. Just looking for a pick, shovel/spade and fertilizer :D

But that's not what the "majority" of DayZ players want, They want fast gearing lots of food and no "farmville" just peeveepee!

/sarcasm off

With the availability of tents if your server doesn't happen to eat them you really only have to grow a crop ever couple days to once a week depending on how many hours you play a day. I think I have 5-6 pumpkins in my camp and can eat one and go on a 2 hour excursion only needing to hit a well a couple times, or eat one and take one with me if I want to be gone longer.

It's too bad cannibals don't give off some horrible stench or something so they can be killed on sight... or smell.

No

Considering how literally every single town on the map has at least one apple tree, and probably 20+ "edible" berry bushes, you have no rationale, except for roleplaying, to eat another player.

Hunting should be extremely difficult, as it is in real life. Remember how animals would run away from you once you got within 200m standing up? As it should be. Work for your kill

There is ALWAYS food available, both in-game and in a real-life survival situation. Do you have to work for it? Of course. As it should be.

"Extinction is the rule, Survival is the exception" Carl Sagan

"Extinction is coming..... fight it" Eclipse Phase

"Do not go gentle into that good night...rage, rage against the dying of the light" Dylan Thomas

The overwhelming majority of players in this game are lazy. The devs cut back food spawns (FINALLY), and they scream and whine, and kill other players for food, all the while the means of their own survival, and the most realistic means of survival, have been implemented for over 3 months at the least. "But that isn't fun!", they say, as they cut up another player to eat them raw...

You know stuff like fishing and farming is broken right? (I know you didn't actually mention these, but the point is some of the survival mechanics are straight broke)

You also know why the majority of people play video games is because they're lazy right?

You also realize that killing other players is a perfectly legitimate way to get food in a game without any sort of morality, because it's a video game and not real, right?

I did yesterday, although it only took me about 15 minutes to get from "orange starving and orange thirsty" to "no starving and dark green hydrated", so your "30 minute" timeframe is shit.

Oh, and when diseases actually get implemented, enjoy your Kuru, Hepatitis A, and various intestinal diseases and parasites.

Eating people should be an absolutely last resort, and you should get infected for doing so.

I cannot wait for the game to get harder still.

You do realize apple picking is highly dependent on RNG/luck.... time will vary.. duh.

Also when the game is finished hopefully it wont take your character 10 minutes to find several apples on a damn apple tree.

Oh and bring on the diseases, thats part of the fun. Hopefully i can get some diseases, fill a syringe with my blood and ninja inject people. Hope i find you, actually.

Murder is the most efficient way to gain supplies. Sure some of it gets ruined but just make a pile of useless loot in the middle of the road and wait for your victim

I'd rather kill a few people to get fully energized than pick berries and apples for an hour to do the same

                                     Energy       Water        Volume

Apple                              69              172             130

Red-coloured berries       70               4                40

Raw Human Steak            494             344            454

Cooked Human Steak       486             232            340

DayZ DB Food Table

In .55 I wouldn't even bother cooking it. Food poisoning from raw meat and Kuru both seem to be missing at the moment. Not sure if that's intentional or not, but it sure makes cannibalism appealing!

Also, to those saying killing people just leaves you with a pile of ruined junk, nonsense. Their melee weapon and gun will be fine, and ruined containers hold things just as well as pristine ones. And of course their meat. 1976 energy and 1376 hydration per kill ain't too shabby.

One of the more defining gameplay moments happened to me just a while ago. I didn't intend for it to happen the way that it did, but... it did. It was my partner, a mutual friend (who couldn't survive his way out of a produce market), and I searching through Gorka. We had split up to search for supplies. We had just found a working truck and had planned for a quick grab and go. Looking through a blown out truck, I saw an earth tone backpack (I couldn't entirely make it out. I was injured from a prior accident and could barely see straight. I immediately assume military gear). I yell out for him to get down (we intended on subduing them until we cleared the area. I didn't want to risk any of our loot or our truck). He ran over to where my partner was scavenging. My partner yelled for him to get down. He ignored it and proceeded to charge him. Next thing I know, I hear my partner's 12 gauge go off. I approach my partner. We skirmish with zombies for a moment, then out of the bushes runs a guy with a wood cutting ax. He has a zombie chasing him. I yell, "get down and I'll kill the zombie!" I get a clear shot and take it out. The guy keeps running and sprints right up to my partner and axes him in the face. I lose it and open fire full auto on him with my mp5. Several more zombies arrive and I deplete all my mags fighting them off. I have to kill the last one with my fire ax. Sadly, I wasn't quick enough and I couldn't get to my friend in time to epi him and he died. All while this is happening, my rookie-ass, bambi-ass, friend is shitting himself and screaming, thinking someone is shooting at him while I'm doing all the shooting. He was in no danger and did nothing to stop the zombies, our assailants, or to help my dying partner. I recuperate, bandage up, restock a mag, and decide to take a look at what these psychos were packing. I nearly fell over when I saw an inventory full of tomatoes and a rusty garden ho. We gunned down two farmers... TWO FUCKING FARMERS! ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS GET THE FUCK DOWN AND NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED! It wasn't my fault! It wasn't my fault...

Never again... I won't risk losing anyone else... From now on there will be no warnings... I will kill on sight... I will cut them down before they get a chance to hurt one of my friends again...

Never give people a chance! even a freshspawn can be spotting for a ghillie sniper you aren't aware of. If a player runs over to you claiming to be friendly it's always best to assume it's a deception, a truly friendly player would remain unseen and avoid contact where possible.

When somebody approaches you it's because they hope to gain something from it and that something is usually your gear.
