Hello, please I need some advice.

Recommended Posts

I would love to play this game but I want to know the exact steps required to have it fully functionnal.

I've done some research online but it seems I'm unable to find the same step by step everywhere.

I also heard there is now a standalone version which differs from the mod version but which one should I choose ?

Please guys can you help me with this ? ( a simple step by step like 1st purchase this 2nd install this etc ...)

I will greatly appreciate your help :)

If you'd like to support the development of the Standalone game before it's out, I recommend you buy it instead of the mod.

However, ArmA 2 is a really awesome game in and of itself, so you get a double whammy from buying it for the mod.

In my opinion, DayZ Standalone is better, purely because it's not a mod and it's actively being worked on. New items and fun times come out with every update, and it's generally a good time once you learn the ropes.

However, I've played more of the mod than any game out there, and it's an extremely fun one if you learn how to play it.

Both these games have steep learning curves, though. Especially the part about learning the Chernarus map.

DayZ Standalone:

Download the Steam client and create a Steam account (if not already existent). Open Steam, look for DayZ Standalone, purchase it and then simply hit the download button, wait until it's loaded. and start playing.

DayZ Mod:

You will need Arma 2 and the Operation Arrowhead Expansion for Arma 2 (Steam offeres it too, but you might find it cheaper somewhere else - google helps).

Buy, Download, Install.

Google DayZ Commander and find a site to download it (it's free). Install, open and look for DayZ Mod (free aswell). Wait until download is finished. Start the Mod from the Commander client - play.

Which one to choose is up to you and your peferences.

DayZ Standalone is in alpha stage still, but already has a lot of features and is constantly being worked on.

Expect bugs until it's fully develeoped.

The DayZ Mod by now still does have a couple  of features that aren't implemented in the SA yet, but the Mod is no more being worked on. Means...don't expect bugs (which also exist in the mod) to be fixed, don't expect new/more features, etc.

I myself tried out the Mod after having steppend into the SA and sadly have to say I was disappointed. But that might just be me...there are a many others around that still prefer the Mod though.

I think the Dayz standalone is the better choiceeven though it requires more patience than the mods. The mods are really cool, but I've played the standalone almost equally fanatically by now. You can hunt, craft, farm, fish - all of which you cannot do the same way in the mods. Since the vehicles' been added I get around the map some more and it is bigger than the original, old map and the new additions are mostly very good. There is also a constant feed of new items being introduced with almost every update. And we have tents and military tents to store our gear. That's all the awesome stuff.

However, the updates can be quite discouraging as items may not ever spawn or you get an abundance of one thing but lack of others. It's not always easy to keep on wanting to play, but the game is very playable now and a fix for the loot problems is probably in the next patch or two. Despite the occasional headaches it gives me, Dayz is still an exceptional game and one you'd want to join during its development rather than just replay as a mod. It isn't the same and the standalone can and will only get better over time. I hope more players will enjoy the game, so we can have interaction and stuff happening. That's really all it needs now: some stable economy and lots of life on the servers.

Sometimes I jump on high pop servers just so I can hopefully interact more with other players. Though many times I end up getting killed on sight. But many times I do meet others who would rather team up and gather supplies together.
