Map size?

Recommended Posts

So I was looking through objects that have been shown. http://i.imgur.com/4k44ZDml.png

This one came up. It's a map of chernarus. It shows cherno on the far right and the rest of the place on the left. Is it possible the devs are going to replicate this map in some way? That would be really really really huge.

Then I notice that Takistan (Which was a arma 2 map) is on the left on the border. Are devs going to stitch maps together for really big servers? OR instancing the maps? Or do you guys think that maybe I'm reading to much and not going to happen?

Thoughts?

Devs clearing this up would be nice.

That's an interesting find.  I've never seen a map of the whole region before.

I remember talk of stitching on one of the mod's island maps to Chernarus+ a long time ago, though this is really something else.  Might just be a cool fluff item for now, putting together such an enormous map is gutsy to say the least.

Wishful thinking. The amount of resources required for such a thing would be gargantuan.

Don't count on it.

That's why I'd like a dev to comment on it.

That's not an image of chernarus the fictional land but rather the area near Russia which includes this south zagoria place ... So i think arma 2 and dayz lore is said to be based off of these lands but I'm not sure if in the lore these areas are all attached together (as many places in the game map aren't an exact replica of other cities near Chernogorsk , but rather taken from all over the devs native and neighboring country sides ). So I really believe they will not stitch these places together as it all might be connected in real life but like I said in game it's all different aside from Chernogorsk being there !

The Map will not be expanded any more than existing boundaries.

This has been stated in the past by the Devs.

I believe that when the game is fully release and the tools are prepared there will the possibility to create new maps.

I really would like to believe that they would make a big map, but I suppose not all dreams come true.

The map you're looking at has existed since long before that game item was created, and even before the Standalone made it to alpha. That, and the devs have stated repeatedly that the map will not be expanding.

There's nothing to talk about here that hasn't already been said a million times. Sorry if that comes across harshly, but it's the truth.

It's a pity they can't expand the map any further, It would be awesome to have huge forest for camping.

Also for mods purposes it would be nice if they introduce an easier way to create and modify terrains, like Unreal Engine for example where you can use tools for modelling and expanding the terrain.

You can't compare a game like DayZ or Arma to a 3D modeling engine specifically designed to be a tool like Unreal. That engine's specific purpose for existence is to be utilized in an open manner by as many people as possible. Epic Games doesn't even consider themselves a game company anymore for that very reason.

We can't compare it, but there are other games like half life or others that have similar tools for modifying the terrain, a better/friendly tools for terrain modeling/painting would be cool.
