The "old" servers seem to be on a separate shard of the hive.

Yeah I found out this is the reason I thought I had a character reset.

Reducing player zoom OUTSIDE of ironsights and equalizing the 2 perspectives encourages the use of ironsights.

Now only if we could discourage people from 'looking' with their guns all the time.. :( ..for example, by making the character turn and/or move slower when a weapon is raised.

Obviously, the effect should be more pronounced for longer, heavier guns and less so for pistols and SMGs (which would also promote the use of pistols for twitchy CQB).

I hope we'll see something like this during the stamina overhaul or the new player controls implementation.

I don't think it is. I've found every other ammo type in experimental, but no .308. Which kinda sucks since all I seem to find is Blazes these days :P

In addition to the Blaze, I've found quite a lot of pump shotguns, repeaters, SKSs, Derringers and P1 pistols. Strangely, I've found only a couple of Mosins and I don't think I've seen a single Makarov, magnum, or any other pistol.

I'm also seeing quite a few PM73 magazines, for some reason.

Two days ago I encountered three other players at the summper camp up north. They handcuffed me and wanted to try the landmine with my help...luckily (for me) it bugged into the ground.

They had no key or saw to open the handcuffs. The server restarts and I logged back. I was alive and the handcuffs were gone.

I thought you would die if you lost the connection to the server while restrained?

You will die if the server sees you log out. If the server crashes before you log out, then you should go out and buy a lottery ticket!

P.S. I'm wondering if we'll ever see different ammo types of the same caliber - for example, 7.62x54R could have your 1950's surplus spam can machine-gun-grade ammo, your newer 7N1 & 7N14 sniper-grade ammo from the 90's and 00's and, possibly, mega-rare supermatch-grade modern ammo, along with specialized rounds like incendiary, armor-piercing and tracer - all with different load consistencies, groupings and ballistic coefficients. This, of course, would require a rework of the current ballistic model, so that the trajectory, velocity and energy are determined by the sum of an individual round's characteristics (and condition) and barrel characteristics (and condition), not just simply per-caliber for all weapons and rounds of that caliber.  B)

This degree of granularity is probably unlikely, but wouldn't it be nice to have subsonic ammo for the suppressed weapons?

^Yup. Fantastic.

.308 is not spawning yet.

Why can I say this with such certainty?

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/222988-trello-chris-wip-308win/#entry2239923

Considering that WIP stands for "work in progress" I'm assuming they changed the calibers for the rifles before implementing the ammo.

Which is either an oversight or the nature of this particular 0.55 build which is stuck somewhere between the 2 stages of ammo evolution rendering those rifles useless here.

I would think that the new caliber ammo's will be ready for stable or the experimental patch prior.

If I recall, Eugen said that they had to roll back to an earlier build to find something stable. Therefore, this was not the latest build of 0.55. It could be that the calibers were changed, because in the most recent build (not yet published) the .308 is spawning.

I was carrying around a silenced CR75 earlier today. That is, before I met a couple of infected around Zub.

The zoom is the same for ironsights.

You misunderstand.

Reducing player zoom OUTSIDE of ironsights and equalizing the 2 perspectives encourages the use of ironsights.

It also encourages the use of binoculars and the LRS for reconnaissance.

The firearms already have different dexterity values, but seat of the pants, there doesn't seem to be any big variation between them. Perhaps the new character controller will remedy this.

Indeed, I noticed that too - there's very little variation in dexterity between different guns at the moment.

Try shouldering a full-size Mosin 91/30 and doing five quick 180 turns like that while timing yourself. Now try the same with a handgun. The difference IRL is SUBSTANTIAL.

More than that, a non-athlete won't be able to hold a Mosin shouldered for more than 1-2 minutes without getting 'the shakes' and maybe 4 minutes before total arm muscle failure.

I would LOVE to see this reflected in the game more than it already is.

I'd say that this big circle is just for testing. Just see how far from centre dot you can select item or ladders or doors.

I doubt it, the circle is context sensitive. With binoculars it goes dark, unless moving, and it is exactly in the spot where binos zoom into. Also, it changes with weapons, with the repeater its kinda like a separated U.

I don't hate it as much as I did the dot. Seems like a step in right direction, it's much less noticeable when moving than the dot.

Also, using binos is much more important now, I love that.

^The hip firing "split U" crosshair shape design is an unusual choice to me.

It seems very, I dunno, Halo looking?

I thought it may be representative of the sway inherent in hip firing itself.

Showing the margin for grouping rather than an exact point where a round will land.

Well subsonic ammo is not required for a suppressor. Subsonic ammo just works better but a suppressor will still silence normal rounds

Correct, subsonic ammunition is not required. A suppressor will still have a beneficial effect, even on supersonic ammo. However, the suppressors that are commonly available today will not "silence" anything, especially when firing supersonic ammunition, but they do work amazingly well with subsonic ammo.

fair enough i dont mind a special type of ammo. Just want to make sure we have to use that ammo to have any suppression at all

The last build or the build before the dot was off from the item by quite a bit.  When you look at an item it says "Take XXXX" if your looking at the correct spot.  Don't see it...move a little closer and/or move your head around a bit you will find the sweet spot.  Or open your pack, put the item in it, or take the item in your hands.  Those words popping on your screen tell you that you have the right spot not the dot or circle so really what good are they? I'm for eliminating them.

I think going for the root cause - fixing the issue with unpredictable interaction hotspots - that's causing people to 'dance' around their loot will be better than removing the crosshair altogether.

I found one of the new camps.

It was pretty neat.

j9ISVFG.jpg

I'm trying hard to carve "new/random" paths around the map and having some nice results seeing great spots and grabbing some good gear (with this latest character).

It always seems suspicious when I loot a large town and find the Police Station completely looted but the surrounding houses are FULL of good loot.

After leaving an empty Police Station I went to 3 adjacent houses and found one after the other, a Mosin, a worn LRS, and a damaged LRS.

I think if every person who went into that Police station also went through the rest of the town, those scopes and that rifle would not have been there.

Of course there's no real proof that the station was hopped into but man was it ever suspicious.... quite a bit of circumstantial evidence that would indicate server hopping....

Hey, if you get a chance go check out the passenger terminal at NEAF.  I have been finding all sorts of pistols and pistol magazines in there lately, especially in the small offices on the backside of the building and some in the big office out front.  When I get fresh, if I am close to that location it is my go to.  I can confidently say that all the pistol types are spawning, I have seen them all in my travels (I am semi-retired so have very little to do during the week).

1. Can someone explain me what's the deal with this 7.62x54 round? Is it a new one? If it is, then what am I supposed to load into Blaze Rifle? The ammo that was previously suited for Blaze does not fit anymore.

2. What's the point of the large round crosshair to begin with? Makes people dizzy.

I found a speed loader for a Blaze tonight. It had two rounds attached, but it didn't identify the caliber of the rounds. At the time, I didn't have a Blaze to try 'em in. It would have been interesting to see if they would chamber, since I still haven't seen any .308 rounds.

That's a nice collection that you have there. Fortunately, it looks like you've missed a couple. I finally found a magnum and a 1911 tonight. By far, I'm still finding the P1 ten times more frequently, than all of the rest combined and as is usually the case, I can find everything, for which I do not have a magazine! I'm ready to pitch this CR75 mag into the woods!!!

I found a couple of CR75 but I had no mag, and found lots of 1911, even more than P1, but never found a mag with this character. I don't melee the infected anymore, it's much more efficient and fun to take them down with suppressed weapons!  B)

Agreed, melee with the zeds is very risky ... especially two, or more at a time!

I don't know what the deal is with the loot. The distribution is very strange and I've not been having the best of luck. I have 10-12 hours in on this build and I have only found one magnum, one 1911 and no 1911 mags. I found another CR75 mag though, but I still have no pistol to use them. :(

Oh, well. I guess there's always 0.56 to look forward to. Still enjoying the zeds, though. I've been taking them out with a repeater without too much drama.
