How does the loot spawn actually work with persistence?

How does the loot spawn actually work with persistence?

I read somewhere that a new item spawns within 1 km after an item has been picked up. Is this the case?

Why do servers even restart if restarting doesn't spawn loot?

Because that's how it's suppose to be

It restarts because the server becomes bogged down the longer it is up. Servers will always restart.

I suggest you don't dig into this topic of item spawning too deeply. The game feels more organic when you are ignorant of these sort of things. Plus, the mechanic will continue to change through development, and you'll have to get a feel for it all over again.

Servers hopefully won't always restart, that's retarded that they become "bogged down" by being up too long. Makes me think there is a serious memory leak that devs won't fix.

I get where your coming from, and that is one way to play it. There are also other completely valid ways of looking at this game at this stage of development - to understand as much as possible about what is going on 'under the hood' and why, and be able to identify when things are not behaving as they are supposed to, and help the development process along by reporting it and discussing suggestions and their merits and problems.

The question is valid, and such questions do not always mean the person asking is looking for tips to exploit the system. Finding exploits now means they can be addressed and fixed so they can't be used later on, making the game better AND more organic.

All these coy, joking responses... it's disappointing. Oh well.

Uhh, pretty much every online game ever has server restarts.  The goal is to get them to be less frequent, but they'll always be part of it.

Even WoW goes down every Tuesday night you know?

honestly the more you know about persistance the more you try to abuse the system. i don't know if it's changed but the idea for getting better loot on persistant servers would be to pick up every loot item you can find and re-drop it so loot spawns elsewhere, so picking up a sewing kit could spawn an AK.

don't read into it further than that, because if you do you'll end up trying to start lootbombs, because everyone knows the system is still pretty broken.

I believe the more we know, the better, so the devs can fix all the exploits we find and such. Sometimes I feel we really lack information about the game mechanics that we should have in order to exploit and find weakness. This is not only for loot mechanic, but for example also on the melee mechanic, they should add a console command or something like this to make visible the tracers in the swings, so we can in fact SEE what is wrong with melee and maybe help the devs.
