Mullraugh 1151 Posted March 10, 2015 I love the SMERSH vest, easily my favourite item in the game simply because it allows me to look badass. I don't care that it has the most slots, to be honest, I just love it. I own one in real life, and it looks amazing with a Gorka Uniform and body armour. However.... You can't wear body armour with it in-game! Now, I'm no expert, but I know a shit ton about Soviet/Russian militaria. It's just my thing. This look familiar? It's called Kora Kulon body armour. Looks just like the "anti-stab" vest in-game, right? This particular piece of armour is designed to be worn with SMERSH vests, and it looks badass while in use. Check it out. (Note that almost everything the guy is wearing in the second picture you can already get in-game: Smersh, Altyn helmet, Balaclava, AK, etc.) The point of this topic is, I would really enjoy to have the ability to wear the Anti-Stab vest, Plate Carrier, and any other body armour they add in the future in conjunction with the SMERSH rig. And, to be honest, if you found an anti-stab vest, garunteed you would drop it later for a UK Assault vest or something along those lines, making the stab vest and other body armour obsolete purely because they can't hold anything. (yes, I know the plate carrier can hold things, but that's only IF you find pouches for it, and those are so rare they may as well not even be in the game.) While I'm on the topic, I'd like to introduce a new type of body armour that I'd like to see in the game! (aside from a Kora Kulon vest) It's called the DEFENDER-2. Used by Russian forces. Comes in Black, Green, Tan and Khaki. AND, it has MOLLE all over it so It can hold pouches. (note the AK mags) Chicks dig it, too. And look! Like almost every other Russian-Made body armour out there, It's compatible with the SMERSH rig! There. And don't start with the whole "I hate military gear and I wanna live off the land and make my own guns and stuff" Because you'll be able to do that regardless.
Santa fox 53 Posted March 10, 2015 It all sounds like solid suggestions to me, never quite understood why we couldn't wear vests over the SMERSH rig. As for the DEFENDER-2, makes a bit more sense than the plate carrier, which I can only assume is mainly used by US forces.
IgnobleBasterd 161 Posted March 10, 2015 I'm guessing balancing purposes.
Lt. Aldo Raine 13 Posted March 10, 2015 It is for balancing purposes, not only that but they don't have the ability or any other category to place the Smersh in therefore you would have to wait until (if they add it) layering comes in because of right now the Smersh is a vest just like the plate carrier. I wanna see this though it looks awesome and would be a great touch.
S3V3N 1402 Posted March 10, 2015 I guess the characters only have a certain amount of sockets that allow "attachments", such as layers of clothing (explains why a hoodie will replace a shirt, even though it should go over it - they are the same item class). I guess the Smersh Vest and the Plate Carrier occupy the same class too, which is why it can be only one or the other. Perhaps it would be possible to combine those items and form a new one that replaces the Smersh Vest without Plate with one that has plate added. Man, that's a lot of pockets - you're like a mule when you're all vested up ^^
theevancat 94 Posted March 10, 2015 I don't really like "balancing" of equipment saying you can't do this or that because balance. Of course there are drawbacks. You're heavier and slower, for one. Maybe it takes a little bit longer to do medical stuff because it simulates taking off the LBV and your flak instead of just your flak or something. So you have all this mule stuff, but you're gonna get tired on patrol with it. There's your balance. I'd like to throw a SMERSH over a Defender, that'd be amazing.
gibonez 3633 Posted March 11, 2015 It is probably a gameplay decision just like a ghili suit does not have the ability to also wear a backpack. Better this way Imo, you trade protection for superior storage space. With the ghilli you trade conceal-ability for a huge amount of storage space. 1
stielhandgranate 480 Posted March 11, 2015 I like this idea. Make the trade off you heat up faster.
star-lord252 83 Posted March 11, 2015 I'm not against body armor and stuff what I am against is juggernaut armour making you invinisable thisnt isn't an example of that so I can say this idea is good especially having vests like anti stab and plate carriers being putt on along with SMERSH vest. R.J.MacReady 0 Posted March 20, 2015 All programming an coding aside, there was a time that the smersh was wearable with the other vests when it was implimented in the first experimental branch. Historically the smersh is wearable with most assault and balistic vests. This is a solid suggestion with great visuals. Cheers.
Preston Henson 0 Posted June 5, 2023 Not to necropost but the easy way, everyone is missing here, to make this work; have the smersh contain a slot for an armor vest. Make it so you can only equip one without pouches attached (or with the pouches empty, in the case of the press vest) and bam, you have armor under LBE with some balance. Make it so that you have the stamina penalty of both vests at once and there's not real reason it couldn't be done or that it would be unbalanced
Pyongo Bongo 235 Posted June 5, 2023 (edited) Definetly :) Don't forget the high vis vest xD You can wear it irl so we should be able to ingame. Edited June 5, 2023 by Pyongo Bongo
