I killed a guy - my first in DayZ

I killed my first real player character in DayZ today.  It perhaps could have been avoided had I just turned and ran away, the person only had a pick axe and clearly just re-spawned same as I.  We both entered a small military outpost at the same time with absolutely no visible gear on either of us.  He followed me around, first asking where I was heading, to which I responded 'No where in particular'.  I mentioned there was plenty of loot in the buildings I had already scoured, lacking a pack to carry it all.  He proceeded to request 'we be friends' and continued to follow me, stating this same question in increasingly facetious ways, just like those silly youtube videos you see when you search DayZ.  I would 'alt+look' over my shoulder and often see him drawing his pick axe, but I did not stand still long enough to allow him an opportunity to strike.

 

This all occurred over approximately 3 or 4 minutes - I intentionally did not pick up some very lucrative items, like a backpack which neither of has had obtained yet, to observe his behavior and interests.  Who, without a pack, would not grab one?  Once I felt his interests were predicated more on myself than his own survival, the next corner I turned I drew my ice pick and aimed for his head as he came around the corner.

 

I did not offer him a warning, ask him his intentions, or respond to his request to be friends - Unless of course, you consider the icepick to the face my answer.

 

With all of that said - with 'Etiquette' as a component of your insight into my tale, what say you?

I say you did what you felt was needed to be safe, and that's all their is to it. Survival of the fittest, and you sir, were the champ. Good on you, keep on like this.

Don't sweat what you do too much. Some people might like being the all-out heroes who never kill unless the person's a super obvious bandit, but in the end it's a survival game. The only thing that matters in the end is that you stay alive.

Nice. My first kill was after I had been playing alone, and avoiding players for THREE WEEKS, when I had gotten a magnum, mosin, military gear, etc. and thought I was the most decked out person in the world. But he would've tried to kill you. People like you are rare; you learn to handle yourself, and not make the mistake of trusting people.

Righteous kill in my mind-  I know exactly the kind of idiot you're talking about when you mention the youtube videos... I've seen a couple of those and though I haven't ever killed one (because as it turned out that was what they wanted me to do)- I understand why you did. 

 

Unfortunately when people get bored in this game- instead of finding something else to do they get some weird satisfaction from annoying the 4ck out of everyone in their proximity... like it's our fault.

I say beans to you.  Annoying guy won't leave you alone, ingores loot to keep following you and repeatedly draws his weapon when he thinks you aren't looking?  He was only ever going to attack you.

Howdy doody Ignoble ..an YEP I surre 'nuff DO know what "Survival of those Species most Apt to Survive" means, cause i was right there when Darwin wrote it. An here I IS on the internet too.. what a neat doodad!

 

But I gotta say, you got you're "road to hell"  a little twisted..(heh)

but.. what the Hell, you're on the right road I guess.

 

Kinda Seems to me you' (or somebody)'r just'bout mixing up one or two ideas and quotations from Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, with Milton's "Paradise Lost", with Goethe's "Faust" there, (and yo probly' sure nuff heard that mix 3d hand, so it aint yo fault) .. because some Christian with good intentions been done tried to fit his own morality onto someone else's fiction.

 

by socialism you mean "democracy" of course... mmmuuahahahahahahaahha:    Ideas remain Void unless they become Actions.

They use that phrase to condone just killing anyone for no reason. I tried this game months ago and played for about a week. Without exception, anyone who came across me tried to kill me without ever trying to make contact. They think this is those lame COD games. Came back to try the new upgrades tonight and same thing. Even when I have a t-shirt and a pair of jeans only, they attack. 3 people on the damn server and no one wants to explore? Just kill because their daddies abused them early in life? With lots of things to find and try out, some numbnuts has to make it take longer. BLOW!

I'm one of them! My daddy beat me as a kid. Now I use it as an excuse to kill people in DayZ. Thanks, dad! :)
