robsoma 6 Posted February 22, 2015 Hi All, I'm a pc gaming noob only just getting my rig a month ago and have just bought dayz. Game looks great and my fps is stable. Problem I am having is rubber banding and disconnects due to losing connection. Dayz appears to be the only game I'm having this problem with and a speed check shows I'm getting over 100Mbps download speeds. Can anyone offer some help? cheers :-)
wooly-back-jack 294 Posted February 22, 2015 do the servers in the browser show as high ping before you join?
robsoma 6 Posted February 22, 2015 Hi thanks for the response :-) No they show in 40's then when on server I can see players with steady pings but mine is all over the shop jumping to over 150 and then I get a message saying I'm losing connection. Tried a few different servers and same thing appear to happen on all.
pilgrim* 3514 Posted February 22, 2015 (edited) Make sure nothing else on your PC is using your bandwidth - like windows auto update for instance, or any auto updates on any of your installed software. Tell windows to inform you when updates are available, but NOT to download them until you say so.Same goes for Adobe and anything else that may check for updates (a lot of stuff does unless you tell it NOT to).And make sure your e-mail is not checking for new mails every 5 mins. I set mine to check only when I tell it manually. (I'm playing a game, I'm not at work)And - natch - don't use other stuff while you're playing - don't download, etc.. don't skype.. don't run twitter or .. whatever. .. just turn everything OFF you don't need, to play the game. thirdly - try turning off your antivirus before you log on to DayZ. Some AVs can really mess with your speed - they check every file in DayZ on your PC every time you call the file - that's a lot of files, all the time.. .. etc.. Try turning it off (just while you're on DayZ) - you can run a full antivirus scan after playing. I generally set mine to check ingoing and outgoing but NOT check files that are run on the pc. if I get worried about that I set a full av scan before I go to bed. And run an antivirus scan anyway (regularly), if you haven't recently - to make sure you haven't already picked up undesirable stuff that want's to talk to the net.. or load ads, and popups, whatever, that can slow you down or jam up yor PC..too Also - I guess you have no one else on the same IP connection? like a girlfriend/brother/person on the laptop-wifi watching youtube while you're playing? or your parents watching soaps on the same IP connection? And you connect to your IP box with Ethernet, right.. not wifi ? Ethernet=Good.. I think auto-downloads is the best bet.. when I was a Win 7 starter it did it's BEST to mess up the game.. it decides to download megabites of high priority crud after you've been playing 10 mins.. You have to tell it to Not Do ThatOther softwares do the same. That and the antivirus settings are the first things to get under control.. then see what happens. xx pilgrim Edited February 22, 2015 by pilgrim

wooly-back-jack 294 Posted February 22, 2015 I find adaware quite ok for gaming http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.phpfree version even has a gaming mode that leaves you alone while gaming/watching movies etc

robsoma 6 Posted February 23, 2015 Looks like it was all down to my anti virus. Had bulldog but deleted and installed adaware and all running fine now. Ping was 150 plus now 25.
wooly-back-jack 294 Posted February 24, 2015 glad you are all sorted.Tip for adaware (and many other AV programs) exclude steam folder from searches as the odd game.exe can throw up a false positive :)
sneakydudes 278 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) Firewall is a huge problem for most games, it scans constantly. Your 100mpbs ends up being 10mpbs. Gaming rigs I tend to uninstall everything, I could sit there for hrs on hrs trying to configure all my 21 years pc experience into one gaming rig.. But I refuse too and pass it off as only money.wipe it drive on, rinse & repeat. Sad part is, I don't recommend what I do, to my customers :) Edited February 25, 2015 by FIRMSneakydude
pilgrim* 3514 Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) I could sit there for hrs on hrs trying to configure all my 21 years pc experience into one gaming rig. Sad part is, I don't recommend what I do, to my customers :) Double beanz for thatNEVER tell them what you do to your OWN pc at home (lol) - I do BaaaD things to mine .. Phone conversation with a mate: "I kept getting messages up on my screen""What do they say""I dunno, I don't read them""You ought to READ them, at least?""So I threw away a lot of files that were taking up space and now I get a blue screen and it wont start, can you fix it?"(sigh).. you.;?"Also I think I unplugged the camera USB by mistake while I was downloading and - i dunno how - all my 3 years of photos on the HD have vanished except two of them, you can get them back right?""Maybe most of them, if you didn't do anything with the HD after that happened - you just turned off the PC ?."Not a thing, but I left it downloading from bittorrent last night and din't do anything else much, except I tried "File Recover" and now there's some big files with like 80Mb of numbers and funny signs in them. Is that a problem?" And so I defragmented it like you're supposed to." er..that' not tooo great.. explains about defrag.. " (explanation ignored)"Admin tools said there was an unknown file system space where my 'logical E' should be, but the photos were on C..I dont get it.. when i turned it back on it was just blue screen shit.""Well.. OK what you...""Maybe the disk got unplugged while I was looking in there, the fans are full of carpet fluff or something. But you're GOOD at it, I know. Just for ME, put it back how it was? Nah, I don't have any disks s'far as I know, F-knows - or backups or anything I don't bother with that stuff.. I really don't have the time. OK? Thanks mate I'll do the same for you anytime, just say the word. While you're sorting that (you're ARE good at this, right? I know it.) , could you make it go a bit faster, ya know, hot - overclock it REALLY - 'Like since the CPU fan stopped .. now everything slowed right down, it was crap, and when I overclock even hardly 20% or 30% the GPU won't work. That's the main thing, just Tune it Up brother, OK! - - I'll pay you for your time if you want; I guess that will take you at least an hour or so? " *"Dude, I really have to go skiing with my girlfriend this weekend" .. don't even turn on the PC, find a win7 and/or a setup disk that works (you DID get 'something' with the PC, right?). DONT use your PC, and don't download Free Win7 Black Edition from Russia again, remember last time?) and we'll talk about it in a while. OK.; No prob.Stay cool. Dont mess with it, but IF you mess with it, MAKE SURE its unplugged - if ya DONT, when you open the case you'll drop your case screws into the motherboard. Yes for sure. Everyone does. thinks : [ "..an hour or so" ??? ] xx pilgrim Edited February 26, 2015 by pilgrim
