Anax 2 Posted February 8, 2015 The thing that I enjoy most in Dayz is the realism of guns and the similarities that it has with Arma3 which is an actual simulator (although I havent bought Arma3) I was a little disappointed yesterday when I tried to test the Derringers bullet drop. I tested Derringer because is the pistol which should have the most bullet drop. I shot a cow at 100 meters (I had a rangefinder) and I could kill it easily with 2 shots aiming at the centre of the animal(I was trying to aim even lower than the center).I tried it again at 150 meters and I had some misses there , I had to aim a little higher than the center of the animal but still I didnt have to aim over it.Im almost sure that in real life even the modern pistols would have missed the 150 meters cow(if you aimed below the center of the animal). And I think even the 100m. Does anyone know how much connection there is between Armas guns and Dayz guns? I guess it is the same code but it has different input by the Dayz programmers.(I know that damage has nothing to do with Armas code but the bulletdrop I though it could be calculated automatically/correctly by the same code as Arma )

As far as the barrel length affecting bullet trajectory: the game currently differentiates between different weapons and how they perform based upon the cartridge the weapon fires. So for instance, the magnum and the repeater have identical ballistic profiles, even though the repeater has a much longer barrel and should have a higher bullet velocity as a result. Hopefully this is not the intended method for handling weapon performance, and merely a placeholder.
-Gews- 7443 Posted February 8, 2015 It's zeroed at 100 meters and it's five times as accurate as all the other pistols.

gibonez 3633 Posted February 8, 2015 To be fair the ballistics in Vanilla arma 3 arent that good either. The community has largely fixed it through modding this mod in particular is the most impressive. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?181324-Advanced-Ballistics-%28WIP%29 good luck hitting things past 400 m with that mod :)
Anax 2 Posted February 8, 2015 It's zeroed at 100 meters and it's five times as accurate as all the other pistols. That would be great! Even if 100 m is a little too much for a gun with (almost) no barrel.Where can I find info like that? (that it is zeroed at 100m)

EvilTigerAce 131 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) Oh yeah, try to hit a cow at 150 meters with a pistol! So real! o.O Actually, 20 meters is already hard (Not a cow :P)... Many people underestimate how difficult shooting with a pistol is... And overestimate the range of a pistol. Edited February 11, 2015 by EvilTigerAce

Many people underestimate how difficult shooting with a pistol is... And overestimate the range of a pistol.true but no one uses a pistol for 2 main reasons1:ammo most take 9mm 45 acp(revolver and longhorn will be an exception)and those ammo types oddly found only in general military.2:most require magazines(excluding derringer, magnum, longhorn)and magazines are kinda hard to find(don't know why everyone complains they can't find a 1911 mag I've had more than twenty must know how to look)I never see people use pistol except the magnum but still only one. I've had one pistol kill and that's with my makorav. Anyways I'm gonna have a derringer in my pants for derringer sniping thank you Gews for sharing your good knowledge of the world and ingame⊙ω⊙

And overestimate the range of a pistol.Yea I know , also I saw again that Mythbusters show (bullet fired vs bullet dropped) in which they fire a modern pistol (a 9mm one I think) from hipfire and after 100 meters (360 feet) the bullet hits the ground. I guess pistol bullets drop really fast.
