emuthreat 2837 Posted January 27, 2015 I'm more of a stasher than a hoarder. I've found 3 miltents so far and currently have one going but I think it's actually a disadvantage as it's relatively easy to spot. I'm not a gun hoarder so I dont get an advantage from the wider tent slots, although I do love the tent because even though you can't start fire inside of one, you *can* start a fire and then pitch the tent on top of the fire (keeping you dry). Backpack stashes are they way to go. I use mostly sposn stashes in the woods because they are waterproof, fairly high capacity and easy to hide around pine trees. I keep my fishing bag near my favorite fishing hole, my hunting bag near my hunting grounds, my fire/cooking/food bags near my camp and my mp5k stash not too far from my favorite military barracks. Each bag gets a base level of canteen, shoes and rags, if I find an extra morphine I'll throw that in too. Also, I've found that using bright/obvious child's backpacks in cities make good stashes because I can leave them in plain view and they're mostly ignored. Most of the time if you stash a yellow drybag under a tree and back away at least ten meters, it will be invisible to passers-by, especially if there is the medium-short weeds around. only have to put your bags about twenty meters off the beaten path, and nobody will notice--most folks on my server just pop in for a moment to search a few spots, and leave. I plan to make a stash trail to Berezino from Gorka, and leave a trail of notes as clues as I go to the coast. read every piece of paper you find in a bag or in clothing. CJFlint 357 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) I want to be a trader / treasure map vendor. I am perfectly happy scooting around the map collecting decent gear. I am looking for a way to distribute it without restarting a character. I only need a couple hours to find everything I need, considering that I don't server-hop and that heli-spawns don't happen on my server right now. I just want to meet friendly people to play with, and I though trade/donation might be a KOS deterrent. What do I care if i get robbed? It would take four to six players to carry off all of my gear from even one drop site; maybe three if they only took the good stuff. I'd actually appreciate a handcuffed sprint to a bag-drop at this point.Well I say if your already trading and are doing it though whatever methods your using and have been successful more power to you. Me personally I only trade with players Im in Ts with but if you got another way good on you. In fact share your ideas. Avant-Garde 229 Posted January 27, 2015 I wish I had your self control. To give an example, I was playing a private server character last night. This character has 5 guns, It had 6 but I chucked the pump shotgun when I got sick of running slow.Does the character need a CR75 and a 1911 on top of a magnum and Longhorn.No.Will I throw them away as long as I have clips? No.He also has two pristine first aid kits.Do I need two? No.Will I throw either of them away? No, One of them is filled with Epinephrine and morphine because once again I couldn't pass it up.AHhahahhahahha you hoarder, when I have more then 2 guns its because I plan to give one to someone else or I'm waiting to find ammo, that kind of thing.I usually don't like big bags, I go just with the simple bag you craft with burlap and rope so I can't even hoard! CJFlint 357 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I will add one more thing to this thread. Having a good basic kit is asome. Repair kits, compass (some say is broken), matches, knife, matches, axe, fire arm or arms, canteens, food and ammo. Having a couple sets of clothing is good. Head protection if desired. Ghillie items. Ya really don't need anymore. My current build alive since nov 12....yes thats right...has a vary min kit now. Ghillie top, rap and hood. High cap, high cap for storage, stone knife, compass matches, axe, 2 canteens, 120 mosin rounds, mosin with LRS, range finder, food, 1st aid.....improvised back back which can be taken used for carring my G top...and can be taken apart....That it....nothing else. Not much really. I enjoy it that way. it makes it more interesting, server hoping for is not all that ideal...thats just me..play how you want. I guess I got my fill of the m4 before it was a rare item. I tell you one thing when they finally turn up the heat on survival on in this game, lower the loot spawns, we will see who is ready and who come complaining. I think hoarding is fun maybe, but god dam you collect all that shit and die....thats going to hurt. + going to high risk spawns even on light servers is going to catch up with you. One day you ll be on a lite server looting a mil base and BANG!!. All that shit will be gone. Some one else will have all your hard work. I think when persistants really is implemented and works for the long term, your dam rights Im going to hoard some shit and make a hobo camp some where, but intel then whats the point. I was one a light server all night, I want to test some mechanics, to see how well thing would work, trying new things and just chill. The server pop was never more then 4. In a 2 hour period I most have seen 30 different people log off and on, hoopers lol. An insane amount logged off and on. Almost thought about camping one of the bases lol, its just not my style though....why bother. Edited January 28, 2015 by CJFlint

The point is that when you get randomly sniped by some asshat on a hill terrorizing a town, you can run back to one of many areas of the map that you had stashed extra bags of gear. You can get everything you need to avenge yourself, all in one place, from the location most directly between your spawn, and where you got killed. I'm gonna be doing some cleaning-up in the hills. sachad 1016 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) I've found five so far. They generally spawn in the domed tents in tent city at NWAF and Myshkino. Found three at the same time in one of those in the domed little green barracks by the hangars at the NW end of NWAF, if that's what you meant. There they were, just sitting on the bunks. I set them all up on the runway, made a fire and waited. Some guys showed up with boar steaks, we had a good time. Then they burnt the steaks and that just killed the mood so I told them to shove off. Edited February 1, 2015 by Sacha

Finding three in one shot is crazy, though. I would've immediately run to the store to buy a lottery ticket.
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted February 1, 2015 Really depends on how you look at it, in terms of quality great gear no, useless trinkets I'm packed to the brim with.

Speak for you self. The only thing that will kill my 3pp avatar is the wipe. It appears even the hackers failedI don't carry that much or stash gear. I don't see the point they will wipe the server every Wednesday. So I carry what need and have a good kit. No need to loot military spawns after I got what I need. No need to visit the death traps to loot. I have the option to camp them at my own leisure if I want. I'm not greedy. In fact I'm looking forward to stable wipe, I enjoy starting fresh. surf_polar 110 Posted February 2, 2015 I used to hoard and trade things with another group that settled their base near mine. Then the server suddenly stopped getting hosted and I was killed by a hacker who flew around me in highspeed taking potshots at me. Fuck this game. :)
TheHermit (DayZ) 22 Posted February 2, 2015 I'm not quite hoarding but I have this kinda thing with water bottles. And I like to stuff bomber jackets into each other's pockets for no reason. If I see a bomber jacket, I must have it. I need all of them.
sachad 1016 Posted February 2, 2015 I always have a full backpack. Gradually I swap out the junk with stuff I can use but don't use like, ever.

So what exactly do you do? Just hunt and fish and camp in the hills? Maybe practice stalking other players? I met some people through recruitment forums, and the OP kinda turned into a dictator. He kept insisting everyone go to Cherno and Elektro or Balota. Even if you stay hidden thelife expectancy on a full server is less than an hour down there, what with random leg breaking hackers, and all. I'd be open to other play styles besides my current lone scavenger, or the failed "let's go do what I just saw on youtube" strategy. It just gets boring running around the woods by onesself; I could have more fun doing that IRL, because I could take my dog. Add me on Steam if you like: emuthreat. I do the ladder. My 3 pp avatar has been alive since Nov 12, I'm proud of it. I have pvped quit abit. I have been vary lucky. The closest call I ad was a hacker knocked me out and took some of my stuff, my friends shot him, and brought me back. The same hacker then return as we were logging out and killed one my friends. I am really not the best pvper, I would say average with good understanding of tactics. I also understand vary well how to make my self as less visible as possible, using terrain and camo. You can't shoot what you can't see. I am good at staying alive. I rarely die. Pvp or no pvp. I not just not wreckless. I refuse to follow reckless players. I'm just careful and well prepared. Its completely possible, in fact there's quite a few players that have pretty good survivability. It comes with time and the desire to survive. One 1pp I have died a few times. I think 2 times since 51.Yeah that's what gets you killed is following other players sometimes. Cherno and electro, are death traps. Of course they call you call you a pussy for not following there train wreck lol. I sware some of the biggest shit talkers on TS are the ones who die the most often too. Getting all mad lol I know exactly what your talking about.I have thought about starting my own survivalist style group/pvp group. You know what though, I think I'll wait til the game is closer to complete. I have people to play with when I want too right now that's really all I need for the time being. I'll add you. I mostly just want some company while exploring the map and figuring out the good paths, campsites around the map. Been looking for a partner to take walkie-talkies into towns to drop and watch for someone to come within earshot; maybe see if they are trusting enough to follow instructions to the first note of a scavenger hunt. If you got the stalking down, I can usually navigate the forests and hills without a compass; until I run across buildings that aren't on the maps, or new towns without signage. But that's still part of the fun for me, exploring the entire map--not just where some wanker on YouTube tells you to go for best loot.
themightylc 56 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Hey guys... just asking for genuine interest: no jugement. Are you talking about server-hopping or acutally scavening all of Chernarus and hoarding stuff in one place (which i would call setting up base instead). If it is the former - and even though this is not just hopping from server to server in a high loot area, dumping your stuff on your own server - is this playstyle not even frowned upon? It just so happens to completely ruin my hope in this game ever evolving into something i want to play.I think this is actually the "flaw" in the concept that Dean Hall was talking about before he scram'ed. In a nutshell:Centralized loot distribution means hoarders ruin the game for everyone. No loot distribution: they become overpowered and ruin the game for everyone.Keep in the persistence wipes forever... well... game ruined for everyone... So what is this? Am I missing something? Why even play this way if the OP is admittedly having no fun? Edited February 7, 2015 by TheMightyLC

Just because I clean out a town, it doesn't mean I gotta keep it all. Justdon't kill without saying hello, or you will never know what happened to all the loot.
