Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition OC @ 4.0GHz, 2600MHz NB

Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 2GB

8GB (4X2GB) Kingston HyperX Blu 1600Mhz

Seagate 500GB 7200RPM HDD

Windows 8.1 Pro

Usually stay ~30 FPS in "normal" cities (Cherno, Electro, etc.), occasionally getting dips in the larger cities. Mixture of high graphic settings with some tweaking in the config files and what not to squeeze out some extra FPS. Overclocking the CPU-NB on Deneb processors really brings out more performance in them. Might squeeze out 4.1-4.2 core as I've had 4.1 mostly stable.

DayZ is currently in alpha so optimization isnt exactly a focus and as such isnt a strong suit for the game. This question is not about what the eventual recommended and minimum specs should be but what they are at this point in development.

what do you think is the minimum and recommended hardware to run DayZ at normal quality with a steady 30+ FPS in urban centers

for example

my current rig:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2Ghz W/ Coolermaster air cooler thing

Gigabyte Motherboard

8gb 1333Mhz DDR3 corsair RAM

1Tb Seagate Barracuda

RadeonHD 6850 1gb graphics

windows 7

this system can manage 40FPS on normal in the wilds but struggles to get 30 in even medium size towns therefore it doesn't quite make the cut.

my new rig (in progress build)

Intel I7 4970k (no OC) W/ Corsair h100i cooler

Gigabyte UD5H z97 motherboard

8gb 2400Mhz G Skillz Sniper RAM

128gb San Disk Extreme II SSD

MSI Nvidia GTX 970 graphics

1Tb Western Digital Blue

Windows 8.1

this new rig is defiantly above the requirements

therefore my guess at the Minimum requirements is somtheing like

3rd gen Intel I5 or better/ AMD A10-5800K or better/ AMD FX 4300 or better

4gb of DDR3 ram

RadeonHD R7 260x or better/ GTX 560 or better

any thoughts/ shameless system bragging?

Really depends on what settings you want to run. I just upgraded from a GTX 670 and was getting a horrendous 1-15fps in novodmitrovsk with very very knocked down settings so much so it was making me sick to a gtx 970 were I am pretty much running everything on high or ultra and hitting a solid 20fps but it felt very very playable even with my trackIR and moving my head from side to side. Dropping those settings down to normal or where my 670 was and I am sure it would be easily hitting nearly double that if not more.

The funny thing was my 670 at 20 frames felt a lot less fluid (more slide show) than my 970 at 20 frames. Today I also put dayz on my SSD and that has helped tremendously with micro stuttering and I think caused a lot of issues, I highly recommend everyone does this immediately if they haven't already,

Throw us a bone and record a video of your FPS in Novodmitrovsk on max settings. Also, don't think your monitors affect FPS.

What kind of performance are you getting out of that system?

About 80-85 fps outside cities and anywhere from 40-50 fps in cities. Keep in mind it isn't optimized yet. In arma 3 epoch I rarly if ever go below 60fps even in cities in taviana.

I have a MSI GS60 Ghost 470 laptop.  Core i7 4710 @ 2.5ghz / GTX 860m / 12gb DDR3 / 128gb SSD

I get resonable FPS at 1080p (1920x1080) with some medium settings, some high settings.  The FPS does drop sometimes in big cities to around 20-30 but usually I can tell its 60 or over.

Well FPS and refresh rate of the monitor are two different things, but if you have stuff like V-Sync enabled, refresh rate can limit FPS. That said, it's hard to get video like you are describing. Fraps maxes out at 60fps to record, that I've seen, and recording HD video like that with Day-Z run taxes my system, hard. I've used Action! for streaming, but even that has an FPS limit and also taxes the system. Nvidia shadowplay seems kind of dodgy to me, but I'll admit I got frustrated and kind of gave up on it a while back.

That said, here is a video of me driving around the north that I had recorded, at night.

Otherwise, here are some pics, Fraps puts the FPS in the upper left, in yellow:

Link one.

Provide some more specific success criteria?

What graphics settings, specifically?

Rendering resolution?

Texture settings?

Do you want a Fraps video or live stream or youtube?

What city?

What vantage point?

What view setting?

Server hardware settings?

Server host?

Current server load?

Internet bandwidth of both server/client?

You aren't listing specific success criteria, so only an argument can ensue if someone attempts to provide evidence to answer the proverbial gauntlet you've thrown down. I feel like everything I just listed can impact FPS but it's hard to say, I've not done heavy testing with DayZ (Not that I've heavily tested graphics benchmarking on any game, fwiw)

In general I will gladly agree DayZ does really poorly at graphics/etc, at this time. That said, I've not played in an alpha or a beta of a game that has done graphics well, this early on.

Provide some more specific success criteria?

What graphics settings, specifically? Object Detail High, shadows enabled, 2xAA

Rendering resolution? 100% 1080p at least

Texture settings? At least normal

Do you want a Fraps video or live stream or youtube? Anything that shows fps counter, the less it eats your resources the better

What city? Novodmitorsk, Svetlojarsk, Chernaya Polana, Chernogorsk, Severograd

What vantage point? Somewhere in the middle of a town watching directions where there are most buildings

What view setting? View/Object 1500/1000m

Server hardware settings? Doesn't matter

Server host? Doesn't matter

Current server load? Well at least 20 other players town should've some loot and couple zombies

Internet bandwidth of both server/client? Dunno

I'll download stable tomorrow and make some benchmarks.

At least with MSI Afterburner you can choose what fps your recording is, quality%, resolution and some other things. I'm also getting GTX970 this or next week so I'll see can the GPU upgrade to 900 series help minimum fps.

Pretty sure I was fairly specific in saying record a video in Novodmitrovsk with maximum settings. None of the questions you spammed there really matter; I'd be impressed to see a solid 60 FPS in Novodmitrovsk/Svetlojarsk with just yourself on an empty server. I have a fairly decent setup with just my processor being slightly dated, but it is running at 5.2GHz, and I don't get near 60 FPS in those areas, nor does my buddy who's running a 5960x and Titan Black.

Also, whether or not the recording caps at 60 FPS is fine; I'd be impressed to even see a solid 60 FPS in the major cities. You could always screenshot your frame rate, too.

It's not spam, it's success criteria. Success criteria helps prevent people from getting into arguments with other people over whether or not something is now delivered/demonstrated. This is especially important when it is clear one or more sides have their minds already made up.

Maximum settings aren't clearly defined. There is no MAX setting you can just toggle on/off. In fact, if you set DayZ to "Very High" (the highest allowed), that only sets some aspects of the game and in fact torks the view resolution down to a stupidly small area.

You could always screenshot your frame rate, too.

I did that in the pictures above. Did you notice that part of my post where I said.

That's sweet, I get 62fps on max ultra settings with 1 evga gtx 780ti SC, I know it will get 300 fps and above in other games like AAPG, America's army. But your getting some nice fps there with the LRS.

I know its not tweaked correctly, because we have one of the best video cards in the world. That being said, 2 of them may not be correctly adjusted yet.

Cant wait to see what your end results will be like.

Ill mess around down the road and see if I can get atleast 100fps on one card non SLI.

No, I don't even recognize where you are. Are you in Novo or Svetlo?

EDIT: Also, to add to that, max settings being all settings at... max? Like, the highest possible? Just for e-peen purposes, not that most people play with them maxed out. I can get up to 150 FPS in places besides cities. When I run into Novo/Svetlo, my FPS drops down to 30 or so, and my GPU usage drops down to around 20-30%. The one core of my CPU that DayZ uses also drops down to 18-25%, so any claims of people getting that much better results than me with similar hardware leaves me skeptical.

RV3 is the least optimized engine in the world. Using not even half of my computer's resources when shit gets demanding is pretty sad.

Just in the outskirts of Svetlo, running through the streets of Novo is a bit risky on the server I was on lol :)

Yeah Im with you on the performance stuff. I have the settings optimized via Nvidia, not maxed. Hoping the FPS/higher res textures/etc start to impress towards the end of beta, I certainly am not seeing ideal performance, that's for sure :(

"Ok" fps in forests (Around 40ish?) but in cities I drop to like 5 FPS. Yes my rig isn't the best out there, but surely the optimization can be improved.

Least optimized in the world huh?

Well if what your reporting is true than I suppose but in my experience CPU/GPU load stays the same wherever I am. Which if this is the case imply the engines isn't properly allocating resources and that the City FPS drop is related to the system trying to do more with the same resources. Correcting this is probably down to letting the engine better understand the system its on so it sees that it has 4gb of VRAM and multiple cores. Even if the game remains as us optimized as it is better multithreading and resource allocation would help immeasurably! The 2015 roadmap mentioned a "new renderer" in its Q1 goals. I wonder if this renderer is to help improve performance or visuals because in my opinion the visuals are fine and a better functioning renderer is a better idea than a prettier one.

How much of your CPU/GPU does DayZ make use of? My usage goes to 90+% when standing in the forest or near the shore. When I'm in a city, it drops to the previously mentioned values.

MSI Z97i GAC mini-itx

MSI 760 GTX mini GPU 2gb @ 1100+

8gb Corsair @ 1633 (jumping to 16 soon)

Intel 240gb SSD

Win7 x64

I generally run a little warmer due to the size restraints, CPU @ 76C & GPU @ 74C

I did have everything maxed out, before .52 I saw 25-35 in cities & 60+ in the countryside, with .52 stable before I started lowering settings I got 12-15 in cities & maaaaybe 25 elsewhere. I've turned down clouds and shadows and texture details, I'm not done tweaking but I'm now getting 20-25 in cities and 35+ elsewhere. Does AA play that large of a factor? I haven't messed with because I didn't want to sacrifice the fluidity of the game, haha now that I said that I'm chuckling, the game is so laggy anyways.

Just got out of Dying light session.

All settings maxed out (+nvidia options activated) i have between 32 and 47 fps depending where i am.

Checking with Parkcontrol i have all cores of the processor active but none of them ever goes over 50%.

in DayZ i have around 30 in the cities and over 60 in wilderness but with some tweaks on the cfg files.

I7/ G780 with 4gb vram /32gb ram /Samsung Evo840 SSD (this is an Asus RoG laptop)

What does it mean? Dying Light is not "optimized" ?

Because at this point Dayz does a better job or i am missing something in DL.
