This is just a horrible, subjective statement. What are you basing your opinion on?

 

I used to support 3 different free-to-play games as a backend developer. One FPS and two Korean MMOs. Every time we released a new patch with more content (dungeons, game modes, customization options, etc.) to a game we saw a direct increase in average concurrently connected users, 3-day paying users and new user sign-ups. More options means more players. Making games more accessible to more players just means more money. We only had problems when the Korean devs hastily implemented features with no regard to their effect on gameplay (e.g. releasing invisibility potions without taking into account balance issues, like their effect on PvP.) This is why experienced game designers and monetization specialists are so important.

 

One thing we did was remove unpopular options as supporting them wasn't cost-effective and increase the level of development complexity. The last I saw statistics posted on Reddit, 1PP servers are less popular by a factor of 10. Good thing BIS supports multiple server options or this "Hardcore" mode (that was an option added for SA) would be gone.

The reason why the 12h timer is firstly introduced for private hives is because naturally public hive couldn't stand it because of all the glitches, bugs, cheaters etc. and the text doesn't say 12h timer is the only thing for the hardcore. They just want to test it in private hives and have feedback from there and see what they'll do about it.

 

Though in the end this is what I'd prefer:

 

There shouldn't need to be a "proper hardcore mode" once the game is balanced. Why do you want to split the playerbase? why not have those 'hardcore' features forced on everyone?

Fuck the options and opinions. Make everyone suffer.

I really wish they would dump all of the variables and have on standardized game mode in one form that they can then tighten up and focus on.

 

No 3rd person only, no 1st person only, no casual or hardcore no public or private hive.

 

Just one version that has none of the problems that plague any of the versions.

 

A version of the game with 3rd person yet no 3rd person view peeking, a version with no ghosting or server hopping.

A version where death is important and suicide is not desirable.

Greed is what prevents this from happening. This is why EA sports games are so shitty, because the idiot that doesn't know how to play said sport has to be able to play said sport because he bought the game, regardless of him being an idiot that doesn't know how to play the sport.

Odd suggestions in this thread along with an odd suggestion for a company to not want people to play a game they produce - or at least the server admins etc. etc.

Perhaps some of you hardcore gamers should uninstall DayZ each time you die and administer self harm as punishment for being ambushed.

The devs are beginning to lose touch with the players. To even think a 12 hour death timer is remotely anything to do with "hardcore" is ridiculous. It's enough to lose our gear that we worked hard for, that's what makes fighting so intense. The thought of a 12 hour wait until my next game is a joke and I'd just go and find another server (or never join that server to begin with). Now broken legs you can run around on? WTF is going on with the "Anti Game" - sounds like more of a pussy game to me.

come on.. no sever renter is going to set the timer to 12 hours and suicide their server. most would set it 15 minutes max I assume. except maybe a very few. a 12 hour wait is as close to perma death as you can get in this game, for now.

Don't kid yourself if there is an option some server owners would set it.

 

15 - 30 minute server timers would be nice though, would stop the suicide in order to spawn closer to their desired location.

The number of servers with a 12 hour timer would be minute. It's not much different than the 1pp servers. There are comparatively few since server operators would actually like to have people come and play. Most people like a 3pp choice and few people would want a 12 respawn. They would swap servers and likely not come back.
