therandomredstone 432 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) So currently there is the pre-apocalypse manufactured crossbow in the game, then there is the improvised bow. I believe that they should add in Pre-apocalypse manufactured bows. Of course these bows would be extremely rare to come across, they would be extremely accurate and deadly to anything below 250 meters. Opinions? And manufactured, compound bows are not made out of wood, The central riser of a compound bow is usually made of aluminum or magnesium, and many are made of the aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum alloy. therandomredstone 432 Posted December 24, 2014 Change that figure to, say, 70 meters and I agree...I've seen archers shoot a long bow with accuracy up to 200 yards. The furtherest I have seen one fly was something like 430 yards. Bows in reality have no problem going far distances. You just have to aim high, because the longer the arrow is in the air, the more it drops.

Elmer Keith shot an elk at 600 yards with a .44 revolver. Anomalies. Nobody is going to be "extremely deadly and accurate" up to 250 m, anyone shooting the long distance trick shots are set up on a known range with lots of practice and often a spotting scope and wind meters etc. Our characters aren't Legolas and any bow should behave as it does in real life. They should add a compound bow sometime but I think we might get another improvised bow first (the PVC bow in files).
threedogification 41 Posted December 24, 2014 Along with a wood recurve bow, I would like a manufactured or crafted quiver, maybe from:Rope and burlap sackGuts and burlap sackRope and leatherGuts and leather.

If a bow can do it in real life, an equivalent bow should be able reach the same distance in-game. Edit: I get that you're mostly referring to the "extremely deadly and accurate" part. It should be very hard, but possible. Edited December 24, 2014 by solodude23
Rags! 1966 Posted December 24, 2014 Back when I was a Boy Scout, I wouldn't have been able to hit the ground if it weren't for gravity. But bows are cool. We need more stealthy, skill related weapons.

Well yes, if you point it up in the air the arrow should be able to travel a few hundred meters. The crossbow can already shoot some 365 meters so try your hand at that one in the meantime (improvised Ashwood bow only makes it 80 m). Fun fact: Mosin bullet travels up to 1,850 meters. Chaingunfighter 917 Posted December 24, 2014 The bow should potentially be usable at decent ranges, but being "extremely accurate and deadly at 250m" is far too long. You shouldn't have a super advantage over someone with an M4A1 at that distance. Bows are short-to-medium ranged stealth weapons with reusable projectiles, not heavy combat substitutes for ARs or sniper rifles. Granted, if you shoot high enough in the air you should be able to get some range with it, but don't expect precision accuracy or to be able to easily hit a target. A bow will be a good weapon in the right hands but we can't just assume we're Jason Brody or Syrian archers fighting for the Roman Empire.

Whyherro123 2283 Posted December 25, 2014 throwing knifes? No, throwing knives were almost never actually used as weapons, due to the fact that they are REALLY hard to use, and people tend to scream when they get stabbed. Give me a sling. Easy to make, easy to find make ammunition, VERY deadly. Not so easy to use, just like bows.
sachad 1016 Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) just wanted to add. these modern bows just dont fit the enviroment. Why not? I'm sure there are plenty of hunters with composite bows. We already have modern crossbows with holosights, and composite arrows are already in the game, so why wouldn't we have modern bows?
