Do random character resets still happen?

Sigh, it just got me. 

There was a DDOS attack yesterday, it messed up the servers but I think they should be 99% running smoothly tomorrow, today it was lagging and Desynch like a bitch and my god damned character got reset. I think people's characters are going to glitch around for the next two or so days but since you already got wiped then I'm pretty confident to say that It probably wont happen again. I was too busy telling people they're character isn't permanently reset that my character had reset. So you're not going to get your character wiped for a loongg time I'm guessing.

 

Oh juust do you know, there is an Official Scheduled Central Hive Character Wipe sometime in the first week of 2015. They are doing it right before the release of the 0.53 stable update which changes up the way loot spawns and I'm pretty sure they're adding in the SVD sniper which they said they would add in SUPER DUPER FUCKING RARE once they fixed loot spawning which is the first update this January. Just wanted to let you know.

There seems to be a multiple things that can cause a character being lost to questionable means. I'm sure that there's no single solution - it seems like servers are quick to generate new character data, replacing old data, so maybe if there was a little more care with how character data was handled (backups?). I've lost my character data to that bloody red error message more times than I can count. I honestly wouldn't expect a fix until beta, so until then I wouldn't get too attached your character.

That must really suck. Badly.. My regular mode character I have had for over 5 MONTHS now, crazy right? But on the bright side re-gearing is super fun! I role-played it out when my hardcore character got swiped, I 'pretended' that he got mugged and was left with nothing. But if you don't have full military stuff, then you can do more in cities. I've mugged two fully geared douchebags yesterday. They were in a bathroom in an apartment together and I said "we got 3 guys aimed at the door with Ak101's, come out WITH YOUR FUC**NG HANDS UP and you will get out of this alive. If you try to kill us, you will die, and lose all of your shit instead of just some of it. They came out with their hands up, I handcuffed them, took what I wanted and a fresh spawn ran up to get revenge on the guys because they had killed him! The freshie was pretty startled when he saw that his killer was already getting mugged, the fresh spawn had said that he thought they were friendly because they said so and they shot him in the back of the head after he had trusted them (he was pretty new to the game). I ended up letting the fresh spawn take whatever he wanted from the bodies and I told him to get lost. Then I uncuffed the geared guys and told them all of their guns would be on the bottom floor. And all I had was a Blaze 95 Double Rifle, a black hoodie, wellies, and hunter pants. So I believe that if you just go for it, you'll be geared up in no time.

Hehe, hey kid, the game is in ALPHA TESTING not beta. By what you posted you know absolutely nothing about this game and how this stuff works you ignorant little f*ck. Saying "oh they use the same game engine and hive", I don't even know how to respond to that. So I'll teach you:

Everyone who plays DayZ has a character, their character is stored basically in two places, the central hive and their computer. In their computer in the DayZ folder in your documents there is a document called "PlayerName.vars.DayZProfile" this is where it stores what your character has, when you play DayZ, the central hive doesn't have your player "memorized" so it says "hey computer, what does this guy have?" and the computer says "look in this "PlayerName.vars.DayZProfile! it shows all this guys items. Then the central hive is like "oh yeah! I remember this guy! this item is pristine, and this item is badly damaged!" Then you are able to join a server and play on your player, and when you are done the Central Hive goes "ok, this is what this guy has now" and the computer says "oh! thanks! I'll make sure to write all this stuff down, in his PlayerName.vars.DayZProfile!" The reason people's characters get swiped, is because sometimes when they join a server, for some reason their character hasn't completely connected with the Central Hive, so since it isn't connected to the Central Hive, the game just gives the player a new character, if they player leaves the server before the Central Hive gets a chance to re-connect, you will still have your character. But in most cases as soon as it loads in the new character, the server re-reconnects to the central hive and your character is over written and what was once a fully geared Rambo, is now a fresh spawn on the coast. Now that I am done teaching you this..

When my character got wiped I just shrugged and said "oh well" and geared up again.
