I'm ready for it! It'll be the perfect hunting tool to carry around with me when I eventually become a hermit somewhere. Unless more weapons are planned, this will also be the closest thing in the game to the gun I use most frequently in real life: my .257 :)

.308 is the ammo the mosin uses. Also I figure they will make the long range scope purely for the winchester model 70 and take it off the mosin. Then give the PU scope its proper zoom.

It will be corrected, Mosin will fire correct 7.62x54R, and Alaskan will fire .308, and I think it will get its own scope.

Doesn't the long range scope use picatinny rails? The mosin doesn't have those on it, that's why I figure it will be moved.

I think they'll probably add the Model 70 and the SVD, split the ammo into 7.62x54/308 and remove the LRS from the Mosin/enable it for the Model 70 and CR527 all at the same time. SVD wont be in until the advanced loot distribution is finished, so I'm expecting it all late Q1 in the new year.

Hrm. I've been gone for a few months, so I may have missed some kind of rage with the AUG and all the other things that have happened.

 

However, this is neat! Can't recall correctly but I remember .30-06 being discussed (and the M1 Garand) so perhaps this is where it'll make its first appearance. Or, they could go with .300 WM and be all cool to set themselves up for some decent high-end sniper rifles later on (but this is problematic, as it's being used in an ostensibly low-end bolt-action).

 

But, as always, I think they need to start taking their high-end lineup a bit more seriously now... especially with the SVD inbound and the loot management system. While I may disagree with the approach of making the SVD a super regulated weapon (which may not even happen, as we know, the loot management system could mean 5 SVDs per server or 500, depending on the values selected) I am getting a little tired of seeing only AKs and M4s around.

 

Probably partially owed to the loot tables, which have things like the MP5K and PM-73 being super rare for some reason. But also due to the fact that we've really only got a few weapons that I'm willing to guess most folks would consider to be "high-end" and none at all that I myself would consider to be "high-end."

 

That said, weapons like the Winchester 70 and the IZH-18 are more than welcome. Just don't want these types of weapons to be beaten to death, as in my opinion, most wood-stocked bolt-actions/shotguns are indistinguishably boring aesthetically.

Why would they remove a weapon that fits in with the game lore, and is infact one of the most common guns in the world?

Anyway, I'm fine with them taking the LRS from the Mosin. I doubt they'd remove it, that's dumb. And if I remember correctly, the Lee Enfield was pretty decent. So a scopeless Mosin is okay with me. Not like it matters once the Model 70 comes in. It'll basically be the same thing. What upsets me is the CR527 and it's barely acquirable ammo. I really wanted to try it out but without a magazine, what's the point? It'd be the perfect mid range residential rifle. But with the SKS' common spawning and the ability to use it without a magazine, the Cr527 is basically trash.

I have heard somewhere that the Mosin will not be able to use the long range scope when the devteam adds a new bolt action rifle into the game, And so far reading the latest DayZ devblog that rifle may be the Winchester Model 70, Can anyone help clear this up alongside discussing what might happen to the Mosin if (or when) The new rifle gets added to the game?

 

The dev team can, but until then everything else is useless conjecture.. 

 

Maybe wait for it to make it in game :)
