Factions

Recommended Posts

I don't know how much this has been discussed as I only bought DayZ a few days ago (loving it). I'm thinking about factions, for example a police force of designated heroes who somehow monitor ingame crime (banditing and whatnot) without detracting from their own in-game experience. I will stick with the policing concept here as it is a decent example. Perhaps if a police player was killed they or their fellow colleagues receive an indication of where when and who killed them. Potentially creating a most wanted list and bounty hunts etc. I know the game is in early days in terms of possibilities and what not and I completely appreciate the direction the game is going. So maybe things like this would be a good addition for realism purposes and all round enjoyability.

This is obviously just a concept not meant for inviting flamers.

Other possibilites: Bounty hunters (higher end policing officials) medical officials to aid people who are completely stuck with broken bones etc with little or no means of survival (i know there are reddit guys etc who do this already)

Just a thought really :) What do you guys think

@OP. I like the idea of factions. It would drastically cut down on KoS. Do like the genius' over at breaking point. Don't mimic them but do something similar.

An indicator where and by who was your friend killed ?

Good God in heaven, Newbie. There are just so very many ways for me to say this to you: Never. Not in a million years. Absolutely not. No way, Jose. No chance, Lance. Nyet. Negatori. Mm-mm. Nuh-uh. Uh-uh. And of course, my own personal favorite of all time, man falling off of a cliff.

No magic indicators or forced factions (includes forced factions by behavior)!

Everything else can emerge ingame if we get the following features:

  • a wide variety of potential faces and maybe body types for permanent survivor identification
  • a fixed name for each survivor (might change if the player starts a new character)
  • a wide variety of clothes, roleplay items and customization options
  • more forms of communication:
    • persistent notes (might be burned)
    • persistent sprayed walls/objects (might wash away or can be cleaned)
    • a working sound system (for warning shots, traps etc.)
    • a better lighting system

Other elements like more "endgame features", more challenging survival and PvE, better tool and work sharing, increased loot rarity (especially guns and food items) etc. would probably have a positive affect as well.

Sounds cool, reminds me of S.T.A.L.K.E.R which had interesting factions for a post-apocalyptic kind of feel. Factions such as.

- Freedom, who fight for free enterance of the Zone. Relaxed guys

- Duty, who are Freedom's enemies and fight to restrict and destroy the zone. Paramilitary guys.

- Bandits, people who rob, kill, torture and live off of other's suffering

- Mercenaries, western mercenaries in the country usually hostile

- Scientists, self explanatory

I mean it would just be awesome. If you ask me

You basically described the CQF as a policing force.

It's not a faction, really, but a clan. And there are other clans fulfilling other roles as well
