Amd processor users

Putting this out here, running amd hexa core 4.1ghz and dune it along time now, good fps outside cities but BAD in the cities, yes u see the framedrop at Balota Nw airfielld Ne airfield Etc Etc,
Will this be fixed for all the AMD users? or are we doomed to have low fps while Intel get all the fun ?
My setup
Amd fx 6300 4,1ghz  alll the time
Msi 760 oc edition
8gb ddr3 1800mhz 
SSD 120gb

Intel users are also getting low fps in cities, hopefully most of this will be fixed when client side optimizations start to occur after the new renderer is implemented. Directx 11 itself should also give us some increased performance when the renderer gets implemented so can't wait for that.

1tb HDD

 

Just got the 970 today... will post back after playing for a bit.  Gonna head into Cherno to some frame rate action.  CPU is the main thing with DayZ though

The problem right now, is that clock for clock, Intel beats AMD by about 50%.  So an FX chip at 4ghz, brings you 20fps in cities.  An Intel proc clocked the same is getting you 30fps in cities.

 

The problem here is that both of those procs are only using TWO of their cores on the game.  

 

If the game ever becomes threaded beyond two cores, then yes, we will all see massive improvements, for us FX chip users, we could actually hit 60fps in cities.  IF AND ONLY IF, they increase the games ability to use the cores on our chips.  Right now, the game is using 33% of an FX-6300's processing power.

u should  run about 30+ if u set it up right, the intel is the optemized one, 

You believe the game has been optimized to run with intel ?? It hasnt been optimized to run well with any CPU the only difference is that the game is not as far as i can see from resource monitoring multithreaded at all ( it runs on just 1 core of my I74790k) and the sad facts are that for single core performance intel is light years ahead of amd.

You should take heart though as they seem to intend to port Dayz to PS4 which runs amd so if they can manage that then i am sure they will be taking much better advantage of your hexicore amd cpu, so relief is hopefully coming for you ( I am goin g to be amazed to see this game run on the 8th gen consoles considering they are pretty much out of date already as far as tech and power goes just IMHO)

 

As for the 30  + FPS is it bad that i can honestly say that my worst area in Dayz is Novo and i still manage more than 50FPS there???

Its using 2 cores on your rig ?? can i see some pics of what ever resource monitoring your doing because in all my tests its only using 1 core on mine ( sure there is a second core running but its idling running everything else in the background) ill be both sad and happy if it is using 2 cores for you , why well sad because what the hell have i done that it only uses 1 for me and happy because then i can fix it to work on 2 cores and my performance should increase.

Not really...the game is just unoptimized.

The reality is that the game, right now, runs "better" in Cpus with good single-core perfomance (it only uses the first 2 cores).

Thats why it performs "better" with Intel Cpus than AMD Cpus.

Even people with good (and i mean very good) rigs gets some (if not a lot of) fps drops in cities.

I agree we all take a hit in cities i lose80 fps going into some cities ( i range from 110 to 160ish in the wilds) and range 50 to 90 in cities.

 

I have to ask can i see pics of your resource management to see it using 2 cores i am starting to think i did something wrong when i turned hyperthreading off( which i do just when i intend to play dayz) because although i got 15 fps boost plus with it off i am only using 1 core.

Ages ago on reddit they confirmed multicore/multithreading for both server and clients along with 64 bit clients, I tried looking through to find the links but it got drowned out by the toxicity of that terrible place. I would imagine work will start on this towards either after the renderer is implemented or closer to beta when heavy optimizations will start.

Yes, Intels do provide better performance in general, but they are also more expensive, and the truth of the matter is that DayZ should not struggle on some of the better AMDs.

Yes, it's not optimised and it's still in Alpha.

 

 

Mine, for example, is a stock speed 8320 Octa-core. There is absolutely no way that should struggle render as badly as it does. I don't have a great card coupled with that chip, but again, it really shouldn't struggle. Especially when other comparable titles seem to do OK.

Very true....Unfortunately if someone wants to increase their performance currently and they are running a amd proc or older intel  then they would have to switch to one of the newer intel varieties.  I have an intel I7 950 oc to 4.0 ghz does great in all other games not so much here.   I could gain 20 to 25 fps in novo by upgrading. I was seriously considering upgrading to a 4690k or even a 4790k just for that.   I have also read about the new renderer coming, couple that with broadwell sometime in Q1 or Q2 next year I will probably just deal with the 25 fps I currently get in novo on full servers.

Yeah, I mean the bottom line for me is that no matter how much I like DayZ (and I do) there is no way in hell I am upgrading just to gain a few FPS. Sure, I'll need to upgrade some point in time, but ultimately as I have done "my bit" by having a decent enough spec PC I believe it's up to the devs to do "their bit". Ultimately if they don't they lose a player - and I can assure you I wouldn't be the only person who thinks this.

I shouldn't need to add the caveat that it's not currently optimised for several reasons (from legacy issues to time/resource constraints), that it's an alpha and that it's still in development.

I wonder how the engine currently handles rendering of buildings, does it do proper occlusion rendering?

From looking at a given city, village or forest scene I believe that the amount of triangles is not more then say Farcry, Battlefield, COD, etc. So I think there is room for improvement there.

 

For ARMA2, there is the possibility that windows has cores parked, so that the game will not use them.

Im running on a I7 4790k overclocked and still the only time i have 60 fps or more is when im playing with the lowest possible settings.

Also running with a 980 OC if anyone is even thinking of mentioning my GPU

I don't think the game is unoptimized. The engine was most likely not coded from the ground up to be multithreaded for 2 or more cores, as it was not a popular practice too to have a heavily multithreaded game developed at that time. Many games around that time would not benefit more then 2 cores. 

 

Amd could shine in this game like in bf4 if it could multithread efficiently across all 8 cores to make up for it slow single threaded performance. 

The new render could offer a salvation to people that are limited by the CPU. I doubt this... because arma 3 suffers from the same problem. went from 4770k to 5820k...

Im pretty certain there is no occlusion culling happening at all in dayzSA. True multithreading is also not supported. When those 2 things come in, potato and ps4 should be able to run the game just fine.

 Samsung SSD 120Gb :P

 

 

Well I might've overexagerated a little. I get decent fps regarding settings but the moment I step my foot inside a town or city the fps goes down the pipeline.
