Can we get a sneak movement?

Recommended Posts

When we humans want to move undetected we can move heel to toe very slowly, limiting noise and eye-catching movement. Is there any chance we might see an addition of such movement?

the crouched movment is way to fatiguing, its an actual crouch. What is needed is as the OP stated, a ghost walk, careful methodical, quiet.

Nope. "Ghost Walking" as it is put above, is mechanically different from merely walking slowly or crouching.

Ya.... backpack full of ammo rattling around, gun clanking, another in your hand and wanting to be a ninja......

Well, it would be significantly more difficult loaded out with gear. That could be a tradeoff: have more equipment, make more noise (significantly so. In my opinion, we don't make enough.) With less gear, you make less noise.

Footwear would also have an effect: hard soled shoes will make more noise, while soft soled ones will make less. However, hard soled shoes last longer, and protect your feet better/offer more ankle support.

A properly assembled pack does not rattle or clank. If you wanted a quiet pack you could make it such. Crafting burlap sack into "straps" or something could then be used on backpack to bundle/tie stuff down. This could then enable stealth movement. Or we could just assume our guys have figured it out along the way. And skip all that.

Tldr, packs don't have to rattle.

No, but the rifle slung over your shoulder, all those magazines in your carrier, and all the stuff in your pockets can move about and rattle. Currently, there is no adverse effects to carrying easily 80lbs of gear. There should, as a nod to realism, be at least some noise effects, as well as an agility/response penalty.

If we dont get a proper penalty for carrying full packs sometime in the future I will encourage all devs to wear a 30 kg pack for one hour while running...

Or jump down 5 feet with the pack on. Or whirl around to shoulder a rifle (balancing is a bitch). Hell, I want them to walk carrying such a load. While hiking, I stop every 20 minutes for a 5 minute, pack-on break. Every hour, I stop for at least 20 minutes, take off my pack and boots, and usually change my socks.

But aren't we elite trained snipers/soldiers with pin point accuracy at any range?  Only a struggling ordinary survivor would have this issue

Yup. Beans. Maybe if you didn't have a pack on and just a rifle in hand. No other gear. If they allow quiet sneaking then I hope they slow us down based on what we carry.

Until persistence is properly fixed, any form of stealth is pretty much moot.  Without being able to lessen your load by leaving supplies behind so you make less noise(without the fear of the server resetting and losing your stuff) stealth won't really work.  Yes, you can risk doing so but I personally don't want to be seeing multiple threads of people raging about having to leave gear behind only to lose it.

With that said, the developers seem to just randomly implement things with no rhyme or reason behind it, aka cannibalism.

These noisy things can be packed in such a way that they don't rattle. I am not trained in anything and even i can imagine how to start doing this. Packed tight, and using internal/external pouches, elastic bands(Easily scavenged), careful arrangement. I'm sure someone in the special forces could explain it better then I.

All I'm saying is that our packs shouldn't effect or sound level unless there's a way around it other then running light weight.

As for stamina and running i completely agree. Weight should impact our travel times. I expect it will, someday.

Which is what a lot of people think are characters are.  If you can't explain how to turn into a ninja by strapping everything tightly to your body so we make zero sound then that should tell you something.

I think persistence is working just fine. It's the Wednesday server restarts and the loot dump locations that are jacking things up currently. Just check my tent thread.

I suspect eventually the movement get adv overhaul.

The lack of stamina, insane sonic the hedgehog speed and lack of stances has to change.

Gear whores should be willing to pay a penalty, but I am talking about slow heel-to-toe movement, that thing we did sneaking into the house not to wake your parents...

Are you crazy, that is almost instant death!  Oh wait, your talking RL and not Dayz...  I am all for more realistic game mechanics, once they actually fix the current movement system to be more realistic.
