rybec 339 Posted November 15, 2014 What is the value of a range finding optic without magnification? It should be at least 3x.Although there are rangefinders that have magnification, their primary purpose is measuring distance. You look at some pricy rangefinders and you'll usually find them at 6x magnification max. Of course, we have auto-darkening welding helmets all over Chernarus, we may as well have expensive rangefinders all over too.
-Gews- 7443 Posted November 15, 2014 It's supposed to be 4x fixed
Killawife 599 Posted November 15, 2014 Its definetily not 4x. You tend to see less far with the rangefinder than just regular eye-zoom, which is slighly less than the pu scope. If I would guess its probably 2x zoom.
klesh 2423 Posted November 15, 2014 I like that it's not magnified. You can range general areas, avenues of approach etc, but still have to use some shooting skills in the end.
PongoZ 127 Posted November 16, 2014 ?its just broken, its purpose is to find the range for an object at a distance. As is it is useless beyond 200 for a person or a zombie. Without its magnification its useless. Unless you are lazing hills or houses. Saying that you like it is kind of amazing, would you like knifes that were not sharp too if the devs made it that way?
kakysas666 191 Posted November 16, 2014 Range finder is terrible. It is like composed of lego.

You know the kitchen knife comes in various conditions, including very badly damaged which is like rusty and not sharp and such, right? You should be lazing hills and general areas, not the distance to the exact spot someone is standing. Gameplay.

Its ok to just support the devs, but try not to make stuff up as if your really talking about the issue. You think the device in the game is the tape measure kind of laser for measuring long rooms? what are you even saying. Its a field laser, its for getting range to game, golf flags or people. Do not be ridiculous.
PongoZ 127 Posted November 16, 2014 Works fine on people and Z's up to 350, ranges up to high 900'sno it doesn't. unless the target is against the sky or something. When you las with this thing you have no idea what it is feeding the distance from over 200m
alferret 45 Posted November 16, 2014 no it doesn't. unless the target is against the sky or something. When you las with this thing you have no idea what it is feeding the distance from over 200mEr does for me, maybe you have no idea how to use it???? Or your running @ 1024x768 on a 15" monitor.I find target be it Z or place with bino's swap to range finder and use, simple.Agreed you can't really make out what it is over 250 but it doesn't stop you ranging with it if it's pointed in the right place. gibonez 3633 Posted November 17, 2014 Not sure what people were expecting. It's a cheap hunting rangefinder 500 yards is probably the max range anything further than that should be really unreliable and ranging anything past 800 should probably give an error message.Thankfully they didn't include silly 15k dollar military grade laser range finders.Really hoping in the future they lock the fov when aiming and include binoculars with ranging reticle and mil dot scopes with accurate mildots so the main way to range accurately is to do some simple math.

Sorry you meant to say 150 dollar.People on here are amazing, I just searched the cabelas catalog. No LRF was not magnified(no one would make such a thing, it is self evidently silly) A 130 dollar one was 4X the majority were 6x some were 10 x. what is the harm of being honest and rational lol. BeaverProductions 441 Posted November 17, 2014 (edited) Rangefinder was completely fine for my 830+m sniper kill. First few minutes of this video, 3:20 for the kill Edited November 17, 2014 by Beav
klesh 2423 Posted November 17, 2014 Rangefinder was completely fine for my 830+m sniper kill. But you weren't able to range the ladder rung next to where he was standing!!?! How ever did you do it?
PongoZ 127 Posted November 17, 2014 (edited) But you weren't able to range the ladder rung next to where he was standing!!?! How ever did you do it? he lazed a building, a huge building. then he took 17 shots to hit the guy(few military count it as "sniping" if it takes you 3 magazines to get the hit.)Pro tip, if your willing to take 17 shots, keep the laser in your pocket and just use ranging shots lol. As I said, the thing works as a hill or building range finder. But if you want to engage people with it, its like a hand gun, or shot gun range finder. Not much market for those for some reason, no idea why the hills of this land are full of them.(maybe people threw then away as they were useless) Edited November 17, 2014 by PongoZ

The magnification should be 4x. I am talking about expecting the civilian range finder to be accurate at long range.Even 800 m should not with with this range finder since its max range appears to be
BeaverProductions 441 Posted November 18, 2014 I know right? I got a range of 833m on the hospital and 770m on the church as a secondary estimate. Good enough for a confident 800 range adjustment. We don't need to know the exact distance.
BeaverProductions 441 Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) PongoZ did you see the part of the video where I let everyone know we had huge lag and dsync spikes then once it stabilised, took another range to confirm then killed him in one shot? It can either pick up the return or not.The return depends a bit on what your bouncing it off and the conditions but based on the power of the laser it either will read or not. It wont lie to you.450 is not a crazy range for them to max it at. 700 on a person and 1000 on a big object would be more likely. But who knows which model they are doing. But 4x and 450 is not crazy.
