Where to loot (if there is any point?)

Hi guys, I was playing DayZ for the first time in awhile today and while I recognised none of the places I spawned in, it was kind of difficult discerning which buildings had the valuable supplies in. What buildings are worth looting for supplies now? 

Also, I'm not sure if this is a bug but if it isn't then I don't understand the point in playing - why are my characters whiped every time I log off? I lost my fully geared character when I logged off earlier and because I haven't played in so long I'm not sure if this is caused by anything in specific. Is there something to avoid this?

.49 wiped characters.  They will announce when characters will be wiped before they do it.  No way to really avoid that.  Sorry man.  If you find a sign, cross reference the russian characters to dayzdb.com map.

They introduced privet hives not so long ago, meaning if you play on private hive your character is only locked to that server.

There is no good answer as to what you should loot, all building have a chance to spawn useful items, some have greater chance than others.

 

In the end, if you want to good stuff you need to visit military locations, there you will be able to find military type of clothing with biggest amount of storage space and biggest backpacks. When it comes to weapons, you have limited choices, Mosin or shotgun, makarov or revolver. Everything else is nearly impossible to find.

I have as well, but have you found a mag?  I haven't found a single AK mag since the new patch.  I know they're out there but at the moment it almost seems easier to look for heli crashes and a M4.

id' say best area to go loot is inland as coast are quickly dried of it's loot by bambis !! ;) And ammo ain't scarce, it is super easy to find IMO

I'm confused. Fully geared character? Are you having trouble finding items or not?

 

Some buildings don't spawn items. Some buildings spawn near-useless items. Most buildings will spawn something of value, it's just a case of knowing what buildings spawn what. You can either look it up or learn by playing.

 

Loot is bound to change, though. It's remained virtually unchanged since 'release', so expect more and different loot in more and different buildings down the line.

If you're new and don't know where the loot is the best way to learn is by checking every house you stumble upon, after some time you'll know what kind of loot usually spawns in certain buildings. But if you want a shortcut you can always check http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus

To OP, certain buildings provide more useful items then others. After some exploring, it's pretty easy to figure out which are worthwhile.

Valuable buildings are usually ones that are pretty big. You'll learn eventually which ones are better than others. Run right past the first few buildings you see. Those ones are always already looted by new spawns. Head inland, cause that's where you'll find the good loot. I wouldn't bother using the online map. It's more entertaining to find locations just by exploring.

I found an AK107 mag and a mag for the AK74U in the military base on the west side of the map with all the tents today as well as about 50 loose rounds

However not a single AK of any kind at any military bases, I got my AK off a guy who I killed

Have not seen one spawn since the update.....but ammo.....found plenty for now

1) The loot spawning isn't exactly "balanced" at the moment.

 

2) Loot is both everywhere and nowhere.  There are few places now where you can just walk in and gear up in one stop like in the Mod.  Now it's a lot of going through buildings and maybe find a gun here, maybe some matches there.  Which is sort of the point IMHO.

Got lucky to find a 75 round drum mags, lost one with an insta-death crap have only 1 remaining, and a clip of 40, also lost a couple 30 mags as well (All in 2 days i got approx : 2 75 Drums, 3 30 Mags and 1 40 made a lot of travelling to get em' though !

Thanks for the tips guys, I think I'm gonna start heading inland more when I spawn.

 

And I know characters got wiped for .50 but I meant almost every time I logged off, my character was deleted and reset.

The AK 74? They can be mostly found at police allot easier if anything. Iv found more AK 74s recently than AK 74Us, 101's and AKM's in the past week lol.
