What has been your most terrifying/violent encounter with a bandit?

On Nov. 4th I made a poll asking people how they interacted w/ others in the game. 

 

Most said that they were a "survivor", in which they would hurt others when they needed to get supplies, and would help others when they had too much. Most also said that they are asked if they're friendly. Most also said that they would prefer their player experience to be random.

 

For this post, I would like for you to post below (in detail) what has been your most violent encounter w/ a bandit.

 

For Example: "I was at the NWAF for the first time, on my 5th life, and was geared, when I heard from a distance "Come out with your hands up, now! Scared, I ran out of the jail (thinking he wouldn't be there), to be faced with 2 fully geared men with M4s, guns pointed. It was at this point that I realized that if I didn't comply with their wishes, I was gonna be deader than that zombie I killed by the tents."

 

Yeah, something like that. Go back through your memories and tell the WORST and SCARIEST one.

Well I was headed to Electro I think, had my nice trusty yellow raincoat, some pants and a fireaxe. I was going between this narrow area (Forget exactly where) when four guys decked out in military gear and M4's jumped from the bushes and told me to get on the ground. I complied, thinking maybe if I listen I could get away with my life. So they handcuffed me, stuffed rotten food in my face, and punched me to near death. I called them cowards, and they threatened to shoot me dead. I told them to waste the bullets, I've lost everything already, and one of them said "Oh don't worry, we have plenty to spare for you" (Or something along those lines) and shot me down...

Everytime I play with Star Thronberry he juggles his boredom ingame with random acts of violence on any player around him.

I killed 6 bandits alone with a CR527 not long ago. I picked one off the roof [inside turret thingy] of Gorka police station from the western side of the town then got a 2nd as he came up to take what he could from the body [should've crouched] then ran away west out of the town after realising there was at least 2 other guys running at street level towards where I fired from, I set a trap on the dirt road west of Gorka that winds down into black forest and about 5 minutes later 4 of them came running in a cluster along the dirt track, from the treeline about 100 meters away I killed 3 and got the 4th as he ran downhill away from the road. Shame none of them had any good weapons just Mosins, SKS, Sporters etc.

I remember being in Svetlo scavenging, what I thought was an empty town then I hear alot of talking and out of nowhere I noticed 4 people gathering fresh spawns at the centre by the statue/monument (I think they had gathered 7 or 8 in total) all were restrained and had sacks over their faces, the bandits were asking them all sorts of questions I cant remember them all but the last question was always the same, something like "Are you ready to enter the void?" anyway after minutes of watching from the Pub/Bar Building on the corner one of the bandits noticed me and started yelling, I shot him in the head with my Carbine and ran out of the building as fast as I could, 1 of the bandits was chasing and shooting at me, I got to the train tracks, I heard machine gun fire and presumed that the hostages had been killed, I eventually lost the bandit but to this day that experience has scarred me, I now very rarely have Svetlo as my spawn but still have the server as my favourites and it inspired me to change my location to "The Void"... I also play more hero like now because of this.

To the fresh spawns that went through that event I am sorry for not releasing you all...
and to the Bandits... I am watching you...

I came out of a school in Krasnostav and someone shouts in broken english to "drop my weapons, you are zurrounded". I say hi and is shot. I tell them to stop it and start to bandage my self and is shot again. Pretty bad behaviour if I may say so. I had my gun on my back all the time.

Well, in a previous thread I reported that some kind of audio bug caused me to hear random "twing!" in forests. In at least one server, that wasn't a bug. It's not a "terryfing" encounter, just a weird/creepy one.

 

Back in experimental 0.50, before it was ported to stable, I was travelling from Dolina to Staroye in the woods. I was just arrived at the edge of the forest, before the northern field of Staroye...I was sorting my backpack near a deer feeding shack when I heard the first TWING! I didn't pay attention - I was sure it was some kind of audio bug like all those phantom noises you experience sometimes (eating or drinking sound, cut off infected snarl etc). At the second one, I was puzzled. With the third in close succession I ran crouched behind a bush, trying to scout the surroundings.

 

Someone on voice chat said, with a genuinely creepy tone: "Ah, now you're paying attention"

 

Dafuq, I thought. I was able to see someone with good camo not too distant, crouching. I had only a sledgehammer...no firearms yet. The guy was sporting a bow in his hands, and probably a rifle on his shoulder, but I wasn't sure. My character was recently spawned, only moderately geared, and I got sloppy with a false sense of security. I didn't even scanned the surroundings before opening my inventory.

 

"Hey. Did you just shoot an arrow at me?"

No answer.

"Ok, I don't want any trouble. I'm going to Staroye, no need to use weapons"

No answer. I was starting to become uncomfortable.

"Hey, I'm waiting a friend here. Maybe you should go" I bluffed (badly)

"Run piggy. Run" he said, with the same monotone and creepy tone he used before.

 

I ran towards Staroye zigzagging in the fields, while he was laughing and the occasional arrow TWING'ed past my character's ears.

 

 

 

 

I don't know why he didn't kill me (experimental, maybe, almost everyone is merciful over there) or why he didn't handcuff/burlap sack me as per standard procedure...but it was a very entertaining (even if creepy) moment. I've met a genuine psycho and survived...those n00bs force-feeding stuff to players should start acting more pro and actually start messing with people's heads.

I was watching over Balota airstrip back when all of the good military gear was there and all of a sudden a fairly well geared guy, whom of which ran along from Balota town-side happened to get held up by two guys. I start zeroing my Mosin and establishing the range from the Sniper Hill to the road. Just as I'm ready to take a shot I hear someone else fire next to me about 15-20 meters away on the same ridgeline. Because I was looking through my scope, I saw the guy who was getting held up drop to the floor. I instantly see the other two guys start looting him so I know that the guy on the hill I am on is friends with the two guys down by the road.

 

I take out my Sawn-Off, putting my Mosin on my back and slowly start to back away from my sniping position. I remember seeing a purple taloon backpack next to a tree, which was probably one of the smartest things I've seen done in DayZ. I was ready to take my shot on the backpack aswell until I was told to hit the deck. What made it scary was the fact that he yelled it and let off a warning shot next to me. I placed my hands in the air and the guy checked his gear, I guess to look for handcuffs or something. His mistake was simply the fact that he checked his gear - So I picked up my shotgun into my hands and spun around and killed him. By this time I was hearing "I'm coming for you", which was presumably the two guys from down the hill who were originally on the road. I ran further back into the forest area and hid in a bush, reloading my shotgun. It turns out that there were actually three of them who I knew I wouldn't be able to take out alone with a Shotgun and a Mosin, nevertheless they walked about 5 meters away from me and still couldn't see me because I was camouflaged.

 

At least when they walked past me I was able to loot their friend, although alot of his gear was ruined I got more Mosin ammo which was in an ammo box.

I was taking a stroll through Elektro as a new spawn when I got my legs broken by a random guy, who then fed me Tuna until I was stuffed. Fun times.

Alright I swore I'd never speak of this experience but here goes. I was heavily geared and I got bored so I went to Green Mountain to set up a safezone for survivors that wanted sanctuary. I got there at night and decided to camp out and begin my quest to find survivors in the morning. It was maybe 12:00 in the morning in-game time and I heard a noise outside, thinking it was just a zombie I walked outside the prison with my axe out ready to kill it. I immediately hear voices outside of the sanctuary and I stand frozen. "Should we kill him? He looks to geared to be friendly." I pulled my gun out saying in Direct chat, "If either one of you even look at me with a gun out I will not hesitate to kill both of you." They seemed smart enough to know they wouldn't get far so one of the guys said, "Alright we are friendly we'll come in quietly." Idiots I mumbled to myself. They then walked inside the prison with me and we all sat down and I started a fire on the second floor as I look at one of the guys. "What brings you guys here anyway?" They took a minute to answer. "We heard that there was a sanctuary here and we were looking for a place that wasn't a deathtrap." I raised my eyebrow at them in real life. "Well haven't you heard the stories about this place? I'd say your better protected in Balota or Cherno even Berezino is safer than this place." They seemed to laugh at my statement. "Well then why are you here? Surely you've heard of the so called "ghosts" that haunt this place." I was finding this amusing. "I don't care if I die, I die. Fresh start." Suddenly we came under fire from a Mosin and an M4 from the woods nearby. "Get to cover I'll get these guys out of hiding and deal with them. Just hide." I ran out of the prison and went around back I proceeded to run toward where the shots were coming from. Then then my leg got broken as a Mosin shot rang out in the woods. The M4 guy came out of nowhere with a gas mask on and military clothes. He looked down at me raised his M4 and said, "They killed us we kill you. Thousands died here and you are one of them." As he said this my screen went black with a "You are Dead" sign on it. Moral of the pretty freaking terrifying story...Never Go To Green Mountain. That was my first mistake.

My most voilent, strangest encounters are norm when I'm solo and caught off guard or by suprise. I tend to just start shooting and not even thinking about much else.

 

I'm not even sure this story is really realated to this thread but I'll tell it anyways. A really strange thing happened to me early last patch. I was up in the tall gov tower in novo, I was freshly spawned from the recent wipe. I was just looting enough to move onto the better areas of the map. I started hearing foot steps.....wait just a minute here. Zombies cant get up here, thats a player! A split second after that he then ran into the room and hit me right in the head with an axe....all grey instantly.....I then backed up pulled out this 45 acp I just found. Unloaded the whole thing on him. He fell over. I went unconscious then like maybe 10 seconds later, then a minute later dead. I said in direct, "Dam dude you fucked us both over hahahaha." It was pretty dam funny honestly, it was def a weird one. That fight was a draw :huh:  I sware I have run into more players in that building then just about anywhere.

 

I would not say this was my most voilent encounter, but it was a weird encounter, that def I will not forget for a while. It really was funny how it all happened. I wish I could have recorded it. Honestly in pvp, encounters they all start seeming the same after a while. There are quite a few times that I pvped and it just turns into a big blood bath or even a train wreck. But there are some really funny things that happen or really strange encounters that stick out to me more then others, that is for sure. I sware those type encounters stick out more in my mind then others. There is some really funny, strange and just plan bazare shit that happens in DayZ.

Hmm. Everyone's stories were interesting, but I asked for specific detail, some of which some of you gave, but as for the others, thanks for sharing anyway. :)

 

My story: Lonely, I travel down the road to the factories towards Berezino. Suddenly, I see a fresh spawn, wearing nothing but the fresh clothes. The conversation went as follows:

 

Me: Hey, man, you friendly?

 

Him: Yeah, I'm friendly.

 

Me: Wanna stick together?

 

Him: Sure, I'm new to the game anyway. Got it yesterday.

 

Me: Do you need food or anything? Weapons?

 

Because I was a hero, I had decided to help this guy.

 

I gave him some food, a machete, and a cattle prod, and some other things.

 

Him: I want to find a gun.

Me: Hmm, okay. Well, we could go to Svet, but I don't want to get killed going to Berezino, so let's just cut through the woods.

 

We were going to cut diagonally through the woods to avoid Berezino, and get to Svet.

 

It's at this point that I have to tell you... this story is not going to go the way you expect it to.

 

As we were going up the hill leading into the woods, we hear a voice.

Voice: Hey guys, what's up?

 

Us: Hey man, what's up? Friendly?

 

He was a fresh spawn, and gave us all his clothes.

 

Continuing on through the woods, another guy came along, a fresh spawn, who stayed with us for the longest time, 2 minutes, then said he wanted to leave. Great partner.

 

All of the sudden, we hear a voice yelling,

 

Possible Bandit: "HEY! HEY! HEY!"

 

It was at this point that my heart was non-stop pounding, loud, fast. Louder than when you rev a sports car.

 

Bandit: Get down on the ground, NOW!

 

Him: Ah! Bandit, run!

 

He didn't run. Neither did I, I had had just about enough of this bandit business. I had plans to take him down.

 

Bandit: Why were you going through OUR woods?

 

Gee, YOUR woods huh? I'm thinking.

 

Me: Oh! Is that your friend down there, in the yellow raincoat?

 

 There wasn't anyone down there. I was hoping he'd turn around, but he didn't.

 

Bandit: You shouldn't have come to our woods.

 

The bandit and his little buddy, both with magnums, shot me, and the fresh spawn.

 

I was friends with the fresh spawn on Steam, I had added him before this all happened.

 

His name is Mike, and I am friends with him today. But we will never forget this. Never.
