Very Clever

I like to do shit together, not just communicate over in-game distance. If that means I have to sacrifice my character which has nothing, I will do that. Because otherwise I'd end up running and running. If I looted on my way, it'd take even longer and I'd still end up playing by myself for a period of time I'd rather spend being within range of my friends. Nah I don't do that because that's not what I find fun in. I'm most definitely NOT wasting any time.

I don't always suicide just to meet up with friends, especially when we're all freshspawns or so. I'm saying that if I find convenience in it, I will not hesitate to suicide because it's useful and the game lets you do it without limits at the moment.

So then you suicide when ur fully geared, do you?

I'm thinking you don't.

He probably means he wants to play as a team with this friends. Just being on the same server isn't the same as playing together. Perhaps it would be better to stop arguing semantics and, perhaps, just try to understand what others are trying to say.

And you're still playing with your friends even if your a KM apart. You're telling them where you are, what you're doing etc. Presumably then, when you want to tactically assault a place you don't split up because that wouldn't be "playing together"

If you play hide and seek, that's not playing together because you're not together when you play it, right? What about a racing game where I'm a half lap ahead of you, oh no, we're not together!

You're the one arguing semantics here.

I did before you even asked.

It goes without saying (to most people, anyway, apparently not to you) that it's not convenient to lose gear that you put time and effort into acquiring.

So just to be clear, you won't suicide if you're fully geared so you can meet up with your friends?

Correct. If my friends are freshspawns, they will suicide to spawn closer to me instead. If we're all geared, we'll run to meet each other.

But then you're not playing together if you have to run to meet each other!!!! So basically you can play apart if you have gear which demolishes your argument about suiciding so you can "Be with your friends"

I like to meet up with friends and then play. With friends. Because talking with friends while playing alone does not count as playing with friends.

So now once you're geared up you don't care much for playing with your friends so we're done here :)

Since losing gear is a big inconvenience, some time that you'd spend with friends has to be sacrificed for it. It's quite the opposite when you're naked and have to run for 20 minutes to meet up with friends - yeah, I'd rather spawn close to them and gear up together.

The point remains standing: you're not a worse player (better, even, for realizing what's more convenient) if you're not geared and suicide in attempt to spawn in a more convenient location.

Running across a map to meet them is not playing. You are super stubborn. I am out.

Playing with friends mean playing with them naked or geared does it not. You're main point was "playing with friends" which you are NOT doing if you are geared and have to meet up, just like you would if you were not geared. So you're quite happy to play alone so why do you need to suicide again?

You can throw as many ad hominems as you like it won't make your argument any more valid. So running around the map is not playing the game huh? I think most people here would agree that's the vast majority of the game.

Sorry for calling you stubborn. We just define "playing together" differently. I don't think calling my friends on the phone is the same thing as "hanging out". I don't think playing a game at the same time constitutes "playing together".

But I don't understand then where the point of distance comes in that constitutes not play together. At what length of separation are you not playing together. If you had to split up and had walkie talkies, would you still not be playing together even though you were in separate towns? If we were in planes, and you were 30 miles away from me, would we still be playing together or not? Where is this arbitrary line?

I said I'm out... but you keep pulling me back in. :)

To me, playing DayZ together constitutes I am in the same general vicinity as my friends. We don't have to communicate over Skype chat or via radio. We can share items or protect each other if we are being shot at. We can split up and try to ambush an enemy. When I am in the far northwest and my friend is on the coast (somewhere), has no idea of his actual location or how to navigate the map, this is not playing together for me.

Running around trying to find someone that doesn't know the difference between Novy and Novo is just a frustration, to me. I would rather kill myself (regardless of my current gear) and have a chance to spawn next to my friends than run around for half and hour and not have fun.

Social dynamics and mechanics are a big thing for me in video games. DayZ servers becoming emptier every day and social interaction (not KoS) seems to be rarer as well. While I love the concept I might have to face the fact that this game just isn't for me. Sucks.

Edit: I said "me" a bunch of times in this post.

I think you should respawn as far as possible from your body and any storage as possible and by extension as far as possible from your friends as well - otherwise death would lose its meaning. You are just much less reckless and uncaring if dying results in 20-30 minutes (or more) struggle to get back to your buddies.

That makes it more helpful even, bad spawn, guaranteed to be on the other side of the map.

Thats why it should be a little bit more complex than "spawn far from where you died". The chance of spawning at a certain point should decrease with:

  • proximity of your corpse(s) - might be weighted by items carried upon death and remember the location for some time
  • proximity of players/player density - might be weighted by items carried
  • proximity of any kind of stash - might be weighted by the number of items stashed
  • higher area yield (some base value - higher for spawns closer to cities or military bases)

Also there should be some penalty for death that is more than simply waiting for a few seconds (though not too much - significantly less than you would get for server hopping as death cannot be avoided).

Read my initial post. I said that suiciding for your own convenience does not make you a worse player. Quoting my later response to you that only concerns a specific situation - situation where it's actually convenient to suicide - and using it as evidence will get you nowhere.

So again, if it's convenient, it's fine to suicide and even a smart thing to do so long as the game doesn't limit you from doing that. As far as my own understanding of convenience goes, playing with friends is better if you don't have much to lose in order to achieve that. I said I like playing with friends, not that I will suicide to meet them no matter what.

Yes I know the frustration lol but making them learn themselves will stop that. If you're their sole source for navigation they're never going to feel comfortable in the game and you'll always have an issue meeting up. Berezino to NWAF is a 20 minute run. Picking a midpoint between your group and meeting there is a fun thing to do. Considering there's no end game you have all the time in the world to meet up so maybe you should take them on an orienteering course to get them more familiar with the map - should be a pretty fun thing to do. Helps to know where you are as well if you die and spawn close to your friends to back them up.

I like the people who go through five spawn cycles when they could have just run from the first one to wherever they wanted to be. if you figure two minutes a life... You can cover a lot of ground in 10 minutes.
