Can we stop this instant-ruined-everything stuff?

well first off you should start a conversation by calling someone stupid,

secondly the next line you spelled perfect wrong,

its really hard to avoid zombies in combat with another player in a major city while they keep spawning

(and btw, what happens when you have a gun and you don't have a backpack to put it in? instantly I'm a stupid person for having my pistol ruined to a stupid glitch, or a "not hard to avoid" zombie who can hit you while your behind it.)

Beans my man, just for that last line ^.^  so much truth

The amount of damage Zombies do works just fine for me B) If you don't like to have your gear ruined by zombies then I suggest you don't let them get close enough to hit you. Easier said then done since the hit detection is horrible still. I only get hit by zombies that are 10 plus meters away or when I am standing behind them.

I wont say the A word but you know the drill

So you're just going to copy and paste this on relevant threads now? It's true so beans for creativity.

At least SOMEONE noticed!

Actually, I read one thread and wrote that and then the next thread I read..... it fit perfectly so I yeah, copy pasta, mmmmm. :P

Now a way to solve this would be to: make it so when a zombies DOES damage your clothing (ruin) it will only go down 1 damage grade...

Thats still pretty harsh and still results in your clothes getting destroyed way too quickly. Maybe clothing should go down one grade for a certain amount of damage dealt to it. The exact amount should differ: T-shirts are by no means as resilient as leather or military jackets.

Clothes should degrade MUCH slower but also be much harder to repair (use sewing kit + some material) and lose all functionality when ruined (might gradually lose functionality when progressing through damage grades).

No to any kind of "in the meantime remove":

  1. Its alpha - things are there to test them.
  2. If you remove something its gone and might be forgotten.
  3. The more people cry to more attention it gets.
  4. Having loot destroyed keeps players looting and the hive from overflowing with gear.

@Evil Minion

Functionality : for a vest

Pristine - all slots available

Worn - same, just cosmetic difference

Damaged - Some slots unavailable

Badly Damaged - most slots unavailable and small risk of loosing items

Ruined - almost no slots available and risk of loosing items

Same for bag pack but arm strips can rip.

I ment the same chance of your items being ruined right now should only down grade your items once. So every 5-10 hits you'll only go down one damage stat Edited by over9000nukez

I agree its a bit mental that everything gets ruined with a single shot, but I guess its something that will be sorted later.

Agree with author of post.

It's unbeleivable that when i have large scratches on the trousers and they are horrible looking I can repair them with a sewing kit......while if i get a bullet all the trousers are to throw out...it's just a single hole  2 cm diameter (depends on the caliber).

And.....even if i have a knife on the right pocket but i've been shot on the left everything is going ruined....

Such stupid!

If you get hit with a 20mm bullet, hole in your clothing will be the least of you problems.

I do like that clothing and items take damage, but it does need work. I thought I heard somewhere that the instant ruining of clothing was an issue related to poor server performance.

Well I don't see how z zed can ruin a metal object (eg a magazine) with bare hands.

Ok but then if we do stay here about explaining any dynamic and difference between realism and a game about Dayz, where you character is still moving like a piece of wood...well won't be enough an entire page to type everything.

In my opinion if you are going to hit me on right leg, at least the stuff on the left legg should be fine. At least this....

It's their fault if it's in your jacket or something and you lock yourself in a building to avoid zombies and they just come charging through the wall like an unblocked linebacker anyway.  With the way they can just hit you through walls, through the floor, from 20 ft away, walk through closed doors, walk through walls etc. etc. etc. it's totally ridiculous that zombies even give damage right now.  The zombies are so completely broken it's almost impossible to not be hit by them, regardless of where you keep your stuff.

Hold the A button, hit Mouse 1.

It is known that zombies have problems in buildings, dont fight them in buildings. If you are in a building and a zombie is coming after you exit the building.

They are highly predictable, they walk forwards. stop. attack. repeat. If you are moving in any way they MUST miss you, because they MUST stop in order to attack you.

Yet again. This is an alpha. All of these systems are a work in progress. This thread is not helpful and points out how people are to lazy to solve simple problems. Is it really that hard to keep your revolver in your pocket or backpack, knowing your shirt and vest have the highest probability of being ruined?

I didnt call him stupid. I said his actions were stupid. If you feel that his actions make him a stupid person....

You say its hard to avoid them in combat. Thats correct. That is by design. If you dont like it dont engage in combat in citys full of zombies.

If you dont have a backpack to put it in put it in your pants, or hold it in your hand. If you cant do either, you have bigger problems like finding clothing and food.

If the zombie is hitting you its because you stopped moving. Read above. They are highly predictable even with insane amounts of lag. (trust me I have bad internet)

No, it's not hard, i honestly don't have this problem..Or if I do, it's not very often.  But it is a bit much to get on people about it when zombies can basically hit you from anywhere they want and also sometimes there's just nowhere else to put the stuff.

So many times I say this that I should just copy and paste it. ;) We are testing an unfinished game. Yes they're broken. If the devs just make it so they stop causing damage then how do we test if to find out how to fix it? Yes they can get through SOME doors still, but not all of them anymore. (I say from experience less than half now.) That's because the private, experimental and then stable branch tests them, reports it and the devs then recode it to fix it. (Or fix one thing that may negatively affect something else that was unforeseen.) This is the nature of software testing. If you don't want to be a tester go buy a $100 PVP game and come back to this in a year and a half.

I thought this had gotten better. a patch or two ago I would literally be doing nothing be searching for new clothes and then new clothes after I had just found those. Also vests would get killed nonstop. I have had shirts ruined but not as quickly or often. But it does seem to happen a bit more in experimental.

You'd be surprised what you could do without a sense of pain and a one track mind to kill what you are hitting.

Those aren't Romero zombies, you can knock them out, they pause in their assault when you hit them. Devs already said that those are infected humans not your classic undead.

This is an alpha. This is not a final product. Though I would be surprised if some version of this doesnt make it to the final game.

I've had zombies hit be while i was behind them, I've had zombies hit me from 10 meters away, I've had moments when ill clearly be axeing a zombie, and it doesn't do anything,

but this is a whole different topic i wont get into.

Clearly you've not read the thread, as your post does not apply to me.  Also, no they still go through every door and every wall, some just take a little more work for them.  Nobody said anything about pvp, and nobody said the game was finished, perfect or anything else.  What WAS said, however, is that the zombies are so broken that it's crazy that they cause any damage to your gear because it's totally ridiculous trying to escape them, especially as a fresh spawn (but that's another topic for another day).  Please read before posting next time, nobody needs your condescending attitude. thanks.
