Mid Range Scopes

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Just came back from a long break and i must say the game has definitely improved. Was just wondering if the developers have mentioned anything about adding mid range scopes for the 22 sporter/cz527? Seems like it would be a better choice than the mosin nagant for a starting sniper once the SVD comes in. I know they have to take some liberties in terms of realism, but most mosin nagants can't have a scope mounted without altering the bolt handle.

I know you're looking for individual scopes, but for now the Longhorn (scoped pistol) is the ideal medium-range scoped weapon in my opinion. It's stupidly accurate, fires a strong round (7.62x51), and has an excellent medium-range sight to it.

Oh wasn't aware they'd added 7.62x51! haven't spotted any yet. I knew about the pu but i was hoping for attachments for those two guns. find a lot of them but i always pass up the cz because of lack of attachments. haven't found any mags for it either

They didn't. The game has 7.62x54mmR rounds (the model) though they are just called "7.62mm" and come in 7.62x51mm boxes for some reason. I believe at some point they were even (falsely) called 7.62x51mm.

Not yet for the weapons you mentioned.  There are some mid range but they stick to M4/MP5 builds mostly.  http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Attachments

Odd about the 7.62x51. They seem to like realism a lot so I'm sure they'll change that eventually. Guess i'll have to find a longhorn or heli crash

Chris Torchia had said that they plan on having 7.62x54R and .308.

What Evil Minion said. It's all a bit confusing.

look, this thread again. Get over it. Mosin has LRS and will always have.

I wouldn't count on that.

Do you think the Long Range Scope will be removed as a functioning scope on the rifle once a real more-modern rifle that actually uses it gets implemented to the game?

Personally the way I see it is that the only reason the LRS is on the mosin is for testing purposes until another rifle comes out that uses it.

Hopefully once another "sniper" gun comes out that uses it, the scope will no longer be used on the mosin.

1. It looks stupid and ugly on the mosin.

2. It's unrealistic on the Mosin and the scope just completely just took a shit on where the bolt lever is located.

This is precisely our current plan for the same reasons you just stated.

As far as scopes go I really wish they would put restrictions on scopes by assigning roles to them.

Say for instance the hunting scope is added it should have a fixed power that is better acclimated for hunting distances and the variable zoom on the LRS should be a fixed high magnification. The variable scope offers far too much versatility.

LRS should have fixed magnification, IMO all scopes should have fixed magnification. We definetly need  hunting scope for CZ527, maybe for Sporter and Blaze. Also some kind of red dot/holo scope for AKs and MP5.

I think a variable power scope should be rarer, and distinguished from that of the LRS (which I agree should be fixed power).

In other words, we just need more variety in terms of optic selection. I don't like how the LRS is just the apex predator of optics with no real competition. Plus, I don't think it'd kill them to add a proper mil-dot. But that would probably require that they remedy the FOV dictating scope parameters issue.

The real-life scope is a 3-15x variable and doesn't come in a fixed-power version. The in-game model also has a clearly-visible power ring marked up to 15x.

Neat! I was talking prudentially, though. And I don't think anyone was referring to the real-world or in-game discrepancies at all.

As in, the LRS should be made into a fixed magnification scope because I want something else, which is much rarer with a mil-dot reticle, to be the high-end variable magnification scope.

Or the other way, keep the LRS as is... change the reticle... and make it rarer... then add a new fixed magnification scope.

The only variable scope I would like to see would be in the form of some sort of Short dot.

362771.jpg

Low magnification , little turret elevation adjustment range.

Great for a DMR or Ar15 not that great for a long range rifle.

As for the LRS in game it is a place holder no as that would explain the duplex reticle on what obviously looks like a high end optic.

It would be nice if they removed the LRS in favor of something dedicated for long range work like the SWFA 20x42.

dAy5TDo.png

Cheap -300 dollars

fixed 20x magnification

Mil dot reticle

High internal elevation adjustment range believe it adjusts upwards of 120 mils combine that with a 20 moa base and you got a 140 minutes of elevation adjustment.

This along with a lengthy animation and time when removing and adding optics would do wonders for scoped weapons.

I always thought they should add in some common cheaper/older hunting scope without target turrets, variable magnification but fixed 200-yard zero. A 4x scope would be fine for the 10/22. Maybe Mk4 LR/T 10x. But these days variable is too popular to limit all the high-end "sniper" scopes to fixed magnification.

Real-life LRS costs $3,000 and has at least a 76 MOA range, enough to get the 7,62x54R to 1,050 m with a 20 MOA base and it is only available with mil reticles. It's suited for long range, they just need to fix the details.

I think part of the problem too is the FOV slider playing a factor into the magnification levels in the game.

Combine that with the fact that the zoom levels on the variable LRS appears to be 1x- y makes it far too versatile at close range.

Fixing the FOV issue along with having the LRS be 5x - 17x power for instance would go a long way to forcing the LRS into a longer range role.

I agree! Which is why I want more variety in optics.

As long as it's not "no variables allowed"

Referencing Red Orchestra again, I'd like to have some "alternate sights" button where say we didn't want to use the PU we could press that button and use the irons without having to dismount the PU. Obviously for the goofy LRS spot you wouldn't have the luxury.

Yup that would be amazing.

Red orchestra really does have dozens upon dozens of great gameplay ideas that would translate directly to dayz.

I start to breath heavily when I think of the prospect of manual bolting and manual pumping on rifles and shotguns.
