Smersh Vests: Holy grail? + Mi-8 crash sites in general.

So, after searching for hours for mi-8 crash sites (only found 4 so far) it seems pretty irritating for them to have civilian clothes and a hat. Considering the rarity of helicopter crash sites they should perhaps not spawn such a large variation of lower tier gear so that the chances of finding a true gem such as a Smersh Vest are somewhat more realistic to find. (although not guaranteed)

 

Don't take me as a hater of helicopter crash sites, if anything I love them representing the high tier military equipment, I just wish they didn't spawn useless stuff as well. would make them far more valuable and thus fought over. (rather than the static military sites which become camp sites for snipers) To me helicopter crash site fights are the most dynamic, sudden and most rewarding fire fights compared to some camping fight in a prison at Balota.

 

Following on the same subject any news on what they are going to do with the mi-8 crash sites? they are far more difficult to spot than the Blackhawk as they are sunk into the ground, have a rusty appearance which makes them difficult to spot in foliage and most obviously they don't have a smoke trail. 2 of the Mi-8 I was lucky enough to find I almost literally stumbled upon, elusive buggers.

Two of my clan members have found Smersh vests in the last couple of days.  Apparently, some of the loot spawns are bugged under the ground so you have to get creative on how to "extract" them from the Chopper.  Hope that helps.

Try going prone and rolling around the outside of the chopper with your inventory (tab) pulled up. You'll "see" things this way that you can't see just by looking at the ground.

Gave it a shot at an mi-8 I found, found nothing extra aside from the usual crappy clothing.

The only function of Mi-8 crash sites right now is to tell me that I have even less chance of finding a UH60 site.

 

I've seen quite a few and have found virtually no loot worth picking up, even with the 'specialist techniques' for finding it.

 

They're broken, need fixing, but hey it's alpha, etc, etc. I get that.

 

The real point  is why even bother having them when most of what they spawn (ok, ok apart from the SMERSH vests) is available elsewhere.

The last ones are so organised that they are doing this in numbers, each guy of the gang next to one of the crash sites and they do server hopping in group (join an empty server after a restart and see the hoppers join and leave). This makes this vest pretty much impossible to get in a normal playstyle. By normal playstyle I mean not running in circles for 10 hours looking at all the heli crashes for days and days (what I'm doing right now) or hopping servers all day long.

 

The loot tables are here to prevent every player to have to perfect military gear in 5 minutes and I'm fine with that, but making some items so rare is creating the conditions of server hopper behavior. The smersh vest should spawn at the same rate as the smersh backpack in the same location.

True, Mi-8 crash sites should have attachments for the AK series, military clothing or items like the smersh vest, military guns, magazines and ammo. Not the trash it spwans now, I found 3 Mi-8 crashes since 0.49 only to find stupid useless things such as glasses or other civilian items.

I found at least seven Mi-8 crash sites yet, at four of them I was for sure the first one who found them. My thoughts after that: What the heck, are this dynamic apparel stores? The most sad thing is that you find now even less black hawk crash sites and they were anyway rare before (three per server/restart). 

 

But I try to think positive and believe in the devs that we will find in the future nice things like a SVD sniper rifle on the Mi-8 crash sites (the devs are working already on the SVD) and stuff like that should stay very rare like the smersh vest at the moment. Because if every "hardworking" serverhopper will get a SVD we could get a similar situation like in the Dayz Mod where many People could easily kill with their DMR. DMR = no aim no brain needed.

Is it possible to see Mi8's from a decent way off?  I've pretty much only looked for smoke so far.

 

Edit:  Also a thought about this.  It makes sense if they are thinking "long-term".  Here is some supposition about what they might have in store:

 

Are the future military spawns farther northwest going to contain the high value loot?  Presumably so right? 

    - If you think about what the map looks like there is a lot of space to make the Northwest a military hot zone of loot.  More bases with high end weapons/ammo/attachments farther away so harder to get to and much more contested right?  If this is the plan than the rarity of the chopper/police car spawns now makes sense as an implementation of that type of system.  If this loot is the best in the game, and the goal is to only make it available in the far far north and west then a FEW random car spawns and helicopter spawn around the map are acceptable.  Currently since no such area exists in the game the police cars and heli's seem like an awful idea.

 

Also, I think a big part of the problem is that the servers restart WAY too often.  That's in line with the gamestate, given that there's really no reason to have persistent servers, with minimal restarts and an actual daynight experience when all there is to do is PvP.  

 

Big picture?  Many many military bases northwest with the best loot.  A few ways to get this loot on the way via random spawns.  Servers that don't reset every 2 hours and a designed loot respawn system.  Higher pop servers.

 

There are multiple fixes and answers to why heli running sucks now.  But they all come with the evolution of the game.  In the current gamestate if you really want an M4 then you can run around looking for it.  But the lower tier weapons actually work just as well now.

I found some text about SMERSH vests online which basically says that the odds of one spawning are ridiculously low. That and the randomness of chopper crashes means that SMERSH combos will be practically impossible for a while.

And after you've invested 20+ hours into finding one, what are you going to do with it? Go pvp in the south and east? Continue hitting military bases until somebody gets the drop on you?

I'd imagine most Smersh vest owners are too afraid to log in for more than an hour at a time, avoiding towns and mil bases all together. This does create a lot of attachment to your character, (assuming you aren't in a highly organized pvp clan that can just recycle your equipment back to you) which can bring a lot of tension to the game.

smersh spawns are useless. These choppers usually spawn just regular clothes and 8 slot vests that I can find anyway in any prison building or barack. And it reduces the chance of spawning regular crash site which contains m4, FNX, grenades and ammo boxes, which are actually useful. So fuck mi-8 spawns.
