The Mantra of a Dayz "Hero"

Recommended Posts

DayZ Bandit = Possible Real Life Murderer

You cannot argue against facts.

That might just be the most retarded thing I read this month.

True. Every time a gamer kills someone in real life, (or if a WOW player, kills themselves), the media always likes to blame the game for it.

DayZ Hero = Possible real life paedophile. (I've seen them handing out their "beans" to 12 year old players. Sickos.)

Looking for scape goat to justify parents failure to raise their kids not being psychos.

Well that escalated quickly.

*snip*

I set my own standards, and they keep me alive for longer

*snip*

I didn't have to read further.

You almost certainly DO NOT out survive me with your strategy.

Well people like to be self-righteous, they like to feel better because of their moral code. And it's clearly visible here on this forum. Everyday we see "heroes" paint themselves to be good, trust worthy reliable people not only in game but also in real life while at the same time trying to make bandits and killers look as bad as possible.

I don't feel "better" because I chose less PvP in my DayZ experience.

I just apply some of my internal standard on my world and it makes it a little more visceral and challenging in a way that entertains me.

If there's a person who needs DayZ to make them feel good about themselves, I feel sorry for them.

Edit: for the record, I'm no Hero.

If you actively avoid player contact, you certainly would survive longer than me. It only takes a few days of playing to learn how to not die to zombies and not fall off stuff, and after that your main threat is other players. I lost my long surviving geared character a little while back after playing under the influence. I don't remember how I died, but I do remember I thought it was a good idea to head to Berezino on a 40/40 server, and I'm pretty sure there was some singing over direct communication.

Since then, having read all these forum posts, I've tried to see how many hero type players there actually are, so I've purposely stayed as a new spawn, avoiding getting any weapons and simply running around near the coast. So far I've died 20 times in 2 days, all from players. Only three actually spoke to me.

One guy said he was a hero, and he had rounded up three of us new spawns and led us to somewhere he said was safe (I had a feeling what was coming), then once he got us into a room, he blocked the door, aimed a gun at us and demanded we strip. One guy actually did strip, however the other guy ran up and started punching at the maniac, and in that split second I decided I'd rather be with the guy that was punching than stripping. The end result was at least two of us died. Not sure if the stripping guy died, but something bad happened to him  either way.

The other two that spoke simply said they wouldn't shoot and then did. The only people that I came into contact with that didn't try to kill me were other new spawns who lacked the means to do so, and even then, a couple tried punching me.

The vast majority of my deaths simply came from random people shooting without speaking. I don't wish to be like this, don't get me wrong, I'll carry on killing other players, but going forward I'll make an effort to talk to them first.

^^^Hey, at least you experimented with different ways to play! :beans:

A high pop server will often have more people looking for a fire fight (as I'm sure you know).

I do often avoid interaction if I can but I do have neutral/friendly encounters fairly often.

Part of the fun of DayZ for me is not knowing what will happen next. If you shoot at everyone arbitrarily you greatly reduce the chance for any other type of experience.

The other type of experience being getting shot yourself.

That being said I ran into a fresh spawn today in Novo, he had nothing I had blaze in my hands. He was so close I could shoot him with closed eyes and till hit him. I didn't, I let him live.

I let him live because he started running away. If he was to run up to me with "hey buddy I'm friendly" I would kill him.

Later on I killed two guys looting town hall from one of the big grey apartments with my LongHorn

At least one of them was armed I loaded a LongHorn that was lying in there and they had a IZH-43  so they could be a threat. (admittedly this is being an ass hole, load a gun that is on the ground and than kill people who found it because now they have loaded gun)

^^^So to you there is only 1 possible type of interaction, a firefight.

To many of us, there are other ways for things to play out, even if they don't end in "friendly" fashion.

Wow, I have heard many self-righteous "hero" rants lately but this one by far exceeds any limit.

Sorry for being rude but this is ridiculous. Just shoot the player in the face, teabag him, have a laugh and move on...

You're gonna get owned if you don't check for the dead guys friends before the teabag.  Trust me, been there, done that.

Indeed, if their crap isn't floating in the air they need another shot/axe to the head.

Pretty sure he meant getting shot by the dead guys mate while mid-teabag.  Nothing more humiliating than being mid squat when meeting the reaper... been there, done that.

Oh I agree, that that's how most people end up going down the bandit road. It's just me, I can't even kill a fake cow in the game for no reason. If I don't need the meat I wont kill it. 90% of the time if I see someone I just hang back and let them do what they're doing and move along and I'll loot after they're gone. Most of the time they go along their business none the wiser. Once in a while they make the mistake of trying to leave right where I am watching from. They don't make it too close though.

That's pretty much the way I play too..

And to be honest... I understand the cow thing. There have been situations in games I really had a guilty conscience for killing a NPC. :D

Don't want to be the ultimate hero, but a bandit...? No way!

unruffle the panties with haste! All it is, is a guide to the path of the hero in Dayz, you don't play that way? no problem. Someone new to the game asked me what was the difference between a hero & a survivor when I was explaining to them the three different factions in the game, & I thought i'd post this in the "new player" section to give new players an idea of the actions of a "hero" in game. If you want to be a positive player in the dayz world, this is your mantra / code whatever you wanna call it.

There are many more than "three different factions" in this game. Well, there are no factions at all, but there are many different play styles. Perhaps Hero players all act in a similar manner, however those that are labelled as Bandits come in many different varieties. I think however if you want labels then you need to add Psycho's to the mix. The DayZ Psycho is the guy that doesn't want to kill on sight, they want to lure someone to a quiet location and cuff, strip, burlap sack and force feed disinfectant.

3 factions is just a simple was of explaining the game to someone new who knows nada about it, as in positive (hero) / neutral (survivor) / negative (bandit).  there is definitely a whole spectrum of nastyness that can be appreciated / despised the deeper you get into the whole dayz story, bandit as a simple explanation suffices. as in "what the hero giveth the bandit taketh away"
