Melee right click

What would you guys think about adding a second melee attack, like a kick?  As it stands, all we can do is punch, which is all well and good, but I think adding a kick, one that flies straight up the middle, could be a sweet addition.  Use it to kick back an opponent, kick at his legs to possibly trip him, etc.  Use it to kick back a zombie that is blocking a doorway, so you can close it on him and gtfo.

 

Edit- basically have it act like the right-click in Left4Dead, creating some separation between you and your target.

 

Edit2- you could even have it work when you have a melee weapon out.  I think this idea is golden.

 

Edit3- when you have something like an axe in-hand, you could use right-click as something similar to a hockey check.  Right now we have no option to create distance in combat aside from running away.

Maybe not strictly a kick, but a shove of some sort would be nice. It shouldn't do any damage, it should just push zombies away and make players stumble or something.

Perhaps an ability to block could be added? Would only work with larger melee weapons like axes and other 'polearms' (can't really block with a screwdriver or a stun baton) and you would have to time it correctly, but it would give you a better chance at taking down a number of zeds without ruining your gear from a single slap.

Some kind of weapon push would be interesting. Could double as a block if your weapon is big enough damaging the weapon instead of the wielder. For smaller items a kick is probably enough doing about the same but without the blocking.

Can already kind of do that if you nudge into them enough ;) but I get what you're on about.

 

Also - I too hope they add this to the game. Shoving, kicking, weapon bashing or blocking. Would be good ways to bring more to the fighting.

Once they remove the action mechanics from the scroll whell, I think it would be nice if we had diferent melee attacks (slashes'n overheads'n stabs) using left click, scroll down and up. Right mouse button could be used for a defensive move like blocking/parrying or dodging. If you parry sucessfuly an attack, you could make a riposte out of it. In order to make people miss they parries, we could use a "feint" mechanic, where you start your attack but if you press rmb during the windup of said attack you cancel it, making people panic parry lol.

 

Due the tracer system already present, other method of making people miss parries is "dragging" the animation to make it hit latter or sooner, fucking with your opponent's timings, or to hit them by the sides, making the parry more dificult. Would make melee pretty skillfull, like it is with firearms now. I really don't understand why melee in this game can't be complex, it would add such depth. Add your kick idea to all this, and shit would be pure gold man.

Hmm I love this idea, could be something like this:

 

No weapons in hand:

 

left-click: punch

right-click: kick

 

Melee weapon in hand:

 

left-click: normal attack

right-click: block'n'push

 

Firearm in hand:

 

left-click: shot

right-click: stock hit (could be useful to knock out a player)

 

Right now, right-click with firearm zooms in for better targeting but this could be done with the mouse wheel and interaction with objects could be done only through the keyboard.

Like I've said before, I believe the lack of complex melee is a huge oversight.

 

Melee should be  a skill able to be developed by a character and should be dynamic enough to allow people a variety of actions such as, but not limited to:

 

1. Blocking a strike

2. Throwing objects as an attack (rock, can of beans, spear)

3. Takedowns/Trips/throws

4. Sensory disruption (loud yelling/poking the eyes)

5. Combination attacks (block and hold, joint locks, strike to groin, strike to face, take down, finishing stomp to the back of the head...)

6. etc etc etc
