Kinda annoying that the simplest weapon in the game is hard to make...

 

Hard to find rope, hard to find the trees, I haven't even Googled how to make arrows yet because I still haven't found the f****** tree lol. 

 

I think the trees should be grouped up in certain areas always known about... (like Apple trees) & Also spawned randomly around the map. 

 

Increase rope spawns

 

All arrows can be made from all sticks with a knife. Just those two, none of that feather bull. (You could increase accuracy rating when they're added to arrow) 

 

i feel the simplest of weapons should always be the most prevalent.

 

Make it somewhat low accurate area

2 chest-3 else shots to kill. The Cross bow can be a 1 hit kill chest& head. 2 shot else

I don't think it's too hard to find ropes, but it would be nice if it were possible to craft ropes.  Perhaps through skinning, or cloth or something.  Hell, I feel like you could even make a shitty rope out of duct tape.  Perhaps type/quality could play a factor in the quality of the bow.

 

As for the trees, they aren't difficult to find.  They grow around nearly every city, and are scattered around the map.  They come in varying stages of growth, but once you recognize them they are easy to find.

 

The major issue with bows imo is arrows, chickens/birds need to become more abundant.  However, in a video I saw you get 20 feathers per chicken so that aint bad.

 

 

BTW, there's a bug right now where if you twang a bow it's a global sound, everyone on the map can hear it.  It's also directional and sounds close, unlike the other global glitch sounds.  Have fun with that while you can imo =P

The trees are EVERYWHERE. Don't just look for the short round one, the tall version can be spotted most everywhere if you know what it looks like:

 

Feathers are something of a pain though, hard to find chickens. I wish their coops spawned feathers.

It's not that it's hard to make, you're just infinitely more likely to find a rifle before you're set with a bow. Why use the bow when you've found an SKS and a single box of 7.62x39 already?

I agree, a wooden self bow, especially made of Ash, should be a formidable weapon in the hands of someone skilled in its use. 60lbs of draw weight concentrated into your chest via a glass razorblade will put you on your ass right quick!.

Who needs google when we have a Search Function or eyes to browse !

The hardest part are the chickeny bits, the tree is easy once you know what to look for (and have an axe).

 

To craft arrows...

1 : find Machete (or knife/hacksaw perhaps).

2: find chicken cut throat and pluck for feathers (20) (nice animation btw).

3: find stick(s) and sharpen with Machete (or knife/hacksaw perhaps)

4:add feathers.

Ropes and Ashwood trees aren't really that rare if you know where to look and don't get that unlucky. Maybe adding a craftable type of rope would help as well.

Now axes are more common than guns and knifes are quite common as well (especially machetes it sems). The only real problem right now is getting feathers which is too hard compared to finding ammo.

So if you only look at ranged weapons the Shortbow is indeed the most prevalent one. But the ammo is not.

In real life a bow is not easy to make anyways. At least one that wont break when you go to pull the string back. It still takes time to craft something like this to even get good at it. The bow is not super useful yet anyways UNTIL more acceptable stealth tactics get put in. Because right now silent doesn't win you any kind of brownie points as infected can still spot you from miles away or from the slightest sound.

 

Hopefully when stealth is FINALLY fixed for the AI than we can see the bow being the better choice to craft in the end. But that would mean pulling back all the guns and ammo to make the bow a more mainstream weapon than an SKS or pistol.

Sadly chicken is the unicorn of DayZ hence don't bother with bow atm.

Also there is no quiver for arrows, which also makes bow play rather unpleasant.

 

Anyway I look forward when we can craft bolts/arrows, have quiver for them and when this whole bow/xbow business will not be harder than getting mosin/sks and lots of ammo.

Found the tree, got the stick, still no rope, found a longhorn???.... before I can find rope....

 

Anyone want to trade arrows and rope for the longhorn???? I'll throw in a Colt 45 clip too...

I feel your pain when it comes to rope. I've ran around for like two hours before trying to find one.  Ashwood trees, however, are abundant. Remember that there's two "kinds" of ashwood trees.

Chickens spawn in Msta , west side of town by the apple trees and small shed. But you kind of have to time the server reset due to the Zeds killing them off eventually.
