future update ideas?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have ideas about what new content that they would like to see added in future updates? My personal idea is a little more gore and zombies should actually eat player bodies.

Indeed, and decapitation, the amount of times I've managed to get a clean swing of my axe on a zombies neck is unbelievable and they just flop over, I wanna see heads roll man lol.

I don't believe the engine can handle that and most online games can't even do this.  If this was a single player game, easy.

1. Fix the broken hot keys

2.remove or fix crawler zombies

3.Make zombies either come to life from laying down on the ground as you get close or just spawn them all at server restart and let them roam. (no more fake insta-spawn zombies or disappearing zombies)

4.Fix all the crappy controls

5.Increase zombie numbers

6.Make it much harder to hack the game.

THEN AND ONLY THEN, ADD MORE CONTENT.

Let's fix the broken things, then worry about new stuff.

I refuse to believe that it's not possible. But, I'm not qualified to say why. But come on, 8 years ago we had games with better graphics. With the increase in techology, why they hell can we not see in an online game what we saw in Soldier of Fortune single player from 10 years ago?

I'm pretty sure no one asked what you believe or didn't.

That's simply not how game development works, especially for large teams. For instance I could imagine that they'll have a team of good database people who first wrote the code for it and now work on optimizing it. Meanwhile they have another team working on hunting. These people doing early versions of better animal AI won't do the database team any good. Same goes for graphics folks doing cars or whatever.

One of the advantages of working in parallel like this, is that it doesn't take 10 years to make a game. Unfortunately it also means that the features are not going to be perfect during development, which I bet is why you have to see the little screen stating that it's an alpha every time you play.

Then making games is the strangest thing I've ever heard of. I just can't understand why you would not always focus on quality as you create. To me, it's dumb if they just work on adding so much crap without seeing if they can make it work correctly. What a waste of time.

So I guess game development is... let's add a bunch of crap without implementing it properly, never knowing if they can make it work correctly..... so who cares if it gets deleted later..... let's just see what sticks to the wall?

That sounds horrible. No wonder games are seldom excellent.

Because soldier of fortune and dayz are completely different games. That's like saying, why can't my 2014 dodge pickup truck go from 0-60 in 3 seconds when sports cars from 10 years ago could do it? Yes, technology and software/hardware have improved, but not on a level that would make what you're asking for possible.

For instance, take a look at the difference in graphics and performance between skyrim and elder scrolls online. ESO probably doesn't have the level of graphical detail that skyrim, an older game, has. But instead, it allows hundreds of people to interact in the same environment at the same time (which would be impossible with skyrim).

I made a post about zombies beating upon unconscious players last summer and razor informed me/us that it was already a confirmed feature for the standalone. Don't forget that all of the tweaks and fixes that are being made to the current zombies will be completely irrelevant once the new zombies (which are being completely redone by a separate studio and team) are incorporated. The navmesh thingy they did recently brings us one step closer to the new zombie AI. Patience, my brothers.

The updates I'm most looking forward to are the ones that affect the health mechanics. So when you are fit and healthy you can run around all you like and carry loads of kit, but when you're sick, injured, hungry, tired your character starts to perform progressively worse in all aspects of gameplay.

That's the thing that will really make DayZ into the sort of game I'm expecting in the long run.

Yup. I always wondered why game developers don't just open-source all their assets so that when someone creates a game, he can just grab all those assets instead of having to start anew every time and produce mediocre results in the process.

Any idea how many hours of people's lives went into creating AK-47's in 20 years time for each game that features one? Instead of just building on the same AK-47 and improving it a little they start from scratch probably 99% of the time. Kind of like reinventing the wheel every time a factory has to build a car.

All about people wanting to hang on to their cash cows. No one ever said capitalism was efficient.

I explained this in another thred...to you aswell lol. Why spend weeks polishing a feature that the next feature may break. Makes a lot of sense to keep feature A in its simplest form with as little to code to inspect when feature B breaks it. Only when all the features work in harmony can they start refining each one....make sense?

For the thread....hate to be that guy, but there is a suggestions section for ideas ;)

The warning that people fail to read but still post useless drivel on these forums....

Here you go again insulting people. My reading comprehension is fine. The alpha warning does not explain how games developed.

Where in the Alpha warning does it say that the game may progress backwards, and lack updates to serious core problems? It never said that in the Alpha warning so people like me who didn't know how games are developed... (that they add things wiithout fixing anything) for over 8 months) get a little confused.

The alpha warning should have said this....

The game may appear to not progress as we add a bunch of items, without fixing any audio problems, broken silencers, etc..... That would be better. I don't think anyone expected no core problems to be fixed after 8 months. No one. The zombies did get a little better, but I would expect them to be perfect after 8 months.

Great idea! Beans to you sir. It makes sense because some games already have near perfect controls, for example.

Plenty of people have explained that perfecting things comes in beta....not alpha.....so explain why you would expect ANYTHING to be perfect pre beta?

You could have spent 5 mins on google to see what an alpha was....read the roadmap.....watched a devblog....read a forum response that explained it.

I don't want any more content before they have optimized it, moved it to a better engine and make it compatible with dx11 for a stable FPS.
And ofcourse, fix all the fucking cheating in this game because now it's barely playable thanks to all the 12 year old kinds running around with duped gear and wallhack + teleporting.

Those are good idea even though I think crawler zombie removal is a little harsh. Just scratch that "remove or" and you have my support here.

3.Make zombies either come to life from laying down on the ground as you get close or just spawn them all at server restart and let them roam. (no more fake insta-spawn zombies or disappearing zombies)

I think zombie respawns - just like loot respawns - should work by making them respawn in areas with low player density and they should never respawn in a certain radius around players.

THEN AND ONLY THEN, ADD MORE CONTENT.

You realize that majors parts or "new content" have nothing to do with the fixes above and often they are done by completely different people. There is no reason not to add the work of artists, animators etc. only because programmers are busy fixing an important issue. Also some problems might be linked to optimization - which makes more sense after the core mechanics are implemented. After all development is rarely a linear process.

Yeah, I have a bit of a hard time believing that they can't churn out more (and faster) with the funds they must be receiving from two million sales and having a template (the mod) on hand but I'll just have to assume it's true from what I've been told. I

Also, 8 months? Try 2 years ... Alpha version saw release in December 2013 but they started development in August 2012.

I guess this comment nails it on the head:

I want traps. Craftable traps. Heinous amounts of traps!

>.> As a solo player, having traps to watch my back would be nice!

I want systems that play off of each other. Multiple uses for items like duct tape or barbed wire. An example being that if you were to find barbed wire maybe you could wrap it around your baseball bat, use it as a trap, use it to reinforce a barricade, weld it to the side of your vehicle?

So instead of just another trash item you've picked up a bundle of choices that you could apply to multiple systems within the game.
