pilgrim* 3514 Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) I What? You don't like my essays? I liked Chapter 3 with the gasmask and the icecream, but I didn't understand the thing at the end. Notes seem to be catching on. Don't ever stop to look at them if they are lying out in the open in a public place. Yup reading pornography in public spaces is punishable by death, preferably from scoped Mosin!

Yaddie 44 Posted August 11, 2014 I've never seen a written note on the ground, but I've found them on player's bodies before. I usually write a short one for whomever kills me.
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted August 11, 2014 I actually picked up a pen and 1-2 books (they give 1-2 loose pages or notes each) just in case. Hell, you can use papers as dog tags, too. I'd prolly use them for immersive purposes (some sort of log or short diary) or likewise.

Or to remember your fallen who-ever-that-random-guy was you teamed up with.I wish we could collect peoples ears or fingers and make jewelry out of them. For the same reason---more or less >.> Edited August 11, 2014 by Rudette
Khanarac 252 Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) Dogtags maybe not, not everyone is a soldier, but maybe necklaces. Almost everyone has a ring or a necklace. But since that's something hackers can abuse and brag about, and could provide more fun to them, I'm not a fan of the idea :/ Edited August 11, 2014 by Khanarac

Every survivor we play is adult, so he must have id card. Not saying that in real life apocalypse people would bother much with carrying their papers around, but it is still more realistic than everybody having dog tags right? There was a thread on this recently. Best suggestion was the classic Dolph ear-necklace imo:

Exorade 214 Posted August 12, 2014 I didn't used to. But now with the abundance of pens and books I've started to leave them everywhere.Kinda wish you could just tear pages of a book and the pages would have visible verses from the book you tore it from. LeeVanSpliff 156 Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) Well yes, in reality you could cut off anything off your victims.Still not sure it would benefit the game O_o. Well, it's the only one of the gather-stuff-from-people ideas I actually liked. Most people have ears, not everyone carry around dog tags, necklaces, driver's licenses and so on. Dog tags is more of a kiddie-wanna-collect feature at the expense of realism imo. What's the point of having a collection of anything except tactical bacon in a survival situation anyway? If they added dog tags, imo the developers would be stating "killing people is the goal of this game, therefore we help you keep track of it". No thanks. Edit: Anyhow it's been debated to death here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/171333-dog-tags-good-or-bad-idea/?hl=dogtag Edited August 12, 2014 by LeeVanSpliff

Maybe some entries could be automated, like when you kill a player or find a gun or something.
King Raptor 191 Posted August 12, 2014 It takes too much effort to read the notes, they should display the text when you hover over 'm or as part of the inventory screen right off the bat. Plenty of room in the inventory but they ain't using it properly.

I think first improvement should be, that written notes looks different than blank paper.I'm tired of checking every paper I find only to stare at blank page O_o. Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) Indeed, paper that has been used (OH GOD NO I DON'T MEAN TOILET PAPER, IMAGES IN YOUR HEAD!!111oneone) should have a different model or texture. Or the other way around, whatever fits more. Forgot how exactly the item look slike right now, and it may depend on condition too. Also, I didn't specifically ask for dog tags if anyone thought that, I merely mentioned that you can use any piece of paper as dog tags (or, if you don't play as soldier or whatever, ID card or anything else) by adding your name - perhaps group and rank if there's that stuff - or those of others on it. Either way I guess notes will be used more by players in the future. Imho, notes should behave like persistent storage. Or they might have a persistant lifespan across server restarts like 2 days or so before they are removed. With the additional option to tear them apart (destroy them completely). Heck, imagine those 2 scenarios: You are in some bigger town and find the central area full of notes. You decide to clean up the area by tearing them apart (unless they have a lifespan, in that case you may not bother). Or you find a note with the coordinates of some super secret stash, supposedly. At the end it says "Destroy this note after reading it", and then you tear it apart, taking the knowledge ... ...to your grave. *Mystery music* Edited August 12, 2014 by Combine

So you could actually make a full blown diary or just make useful notes. Edited August 12, 2014 by DoctorBadSign
