The 'friendly' pose and how I am dealing with bandits

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

*Disclaimer - I enjoy people shooting on sight, its what makes the game great, this is not a KOS whinge.

So recently I have been putting more and more time into Dayz as the last few patches have made the game quite playable for me and not to ignite another KOS argument this is just my take on how I am dealing with players from here on in due to some shitty experiences and maybe a trend could start. I enjoy player interaction but ive been burned too many times by people with weapons.

Basically, my own set of rules will be very simple - If you have a gun out weather its raised or lowered, you will be shot on sight.

Its not full proof, but its what im going by, so if you play on any of the AU hardcore servers and your friendly, holster your weapon!

Now for a funny story -

Was on the TOG hardcore AU server last night and ran into some chaps at the new town NW of Svet, had a chat, they seemed cool, we all had guns ( I had a sporter.. yay) than as expected one of them just shot me in the face. Whatever, no big deal.....spawned at Svet petrol station, legged it to where these douchbags were picked up a SKS with 10 rounds and exacted revenge.. was pretty fun.

So, from this, anyone with a weapon out is hostile as far as im concerned!

For other 'friendly' players out there, do you have any rules you guy by?? Im curious

See you in game!

There are AU hardcore servers? I thought you guys already banned all the free speech by now. Strange.

People always say they KOS anyone with a gun out cause u are most likely a bandit...

To that id say your rules are silly and ill just avoid all people I do not know cause I would rather have my gun out then to have to wait for that slow animation to perform itself and die.

Always be ready for some camper to peek around the corner.

No one is ever friendly unless I met them IRL or are trusted forum members who I know wont kill me when meeting up for a trade.

All others will eventually try to kill you I believe. I rarely group up but when I do I ditch them or sometimes kill them if they start acting strange.

I just have my gun out in military places, no one is friendly there and neither am I. In other places I have my guns holstered and AWAYS sneak in towns and such, so I can spot other Survivors before they spot me. If we get close, I try some comunications with writen chat (doesn't reveal my position by sound) while I'm hidden to see how said Survivor will behave.

When fresh-respawns, they usually answer and ask for help. When geared up, they run lol.

But what I think its the best to make friendly contact is to be in a position of superiority, that could be superior gear, a good place where you can see the Survivor and offer some threat to him but he can't do that to you.. this kind of thing.

if they are in group I shoot to kill, I really don't trust people in groups and rather not even make contact other then a bullet to their face. All my "friends" are temporary. I don't kill them, Its like we help eachother and then go on our ways.

Rationalization. "He has his gun out, he must be a bandit."

It's just the first step, next you will be shooting people with camo because they have obviously been to a military base, or guys with big backpacks, because they could obviously be hiding a concealed weapon.

Next thing you know you find yourself in a house in Kamyshovo, the doors closed, a bottle of disinfectant in you hand, a naked handcuffed fresh spawn in front of you, and you are telling him all the horrific things you are going to do to his pale starving body while blasting "Goodbye Horses" over public voice channel.

It can happen to anyone.

I hate people who use this shitty ass excuse of a "rule" to shoot on sight.

What the fuck do you expect people to be doing if they find a gun with ammo? Just stick it on their back and let any threat get the advantage?

Oh, why is it the KoSer can always have a weapon out, and it's okay, but the other people can't have weapons out or it's killed on sight for them?

I don't get it at all, and quite frankly this is a flawed "rule".

Well, lets talk about that form a second.

Why do you need you gun out? You dont need it for zombies, arguably you need it out to defend your self from other players, but I think in most cases having your gun out isnt going to help if you are ambushed, on the odd occasion you may pull off the ol twitch shot but more often than not you'll leg it to the nearest bit of cover , in which case you have time to get your weapon out anyways.

The way I see it is simple, having your weapon out you are 0.5s away from getting a shot on me when im trying to befriend you, having a weapon holstered I have that extra 1 second or so to either put you down or run.

This rule of mine is my way of extending my life while trying to still be somewhat friendly, holster your shit and I wont shoot you.

The central question has to be if you abide by your own rule and always have your weapon holstered unless you are actively threatened by another player or not. If yes ... k, cool. If no ... well you get my point i think.

I just stay observant , when I see or hear people I tell them to put their weapon down (pointed down) after hiding behind cover , if they don't after 3 times asking I open fire . on the other hand if they do dearm I converse with them , but my rule for conversation is to never talk for longer than a minute or two and observe everything they say ; cuz it could giveaway their true intentions .. While talking make sure to keep your back against a wall or just keep strafing around just in case.

Never let the stranger get close or get behind you and if they keep coming closer after they have pointed their weapon to the ground they no doubt want a fight , so shoot on sight if they get within 5 feet (after a warning of course) .

And in regards to teaming up with strangers : don't ever do it unless you're absolutely sure , because even the best and most observant heroes can become victim to evil doers , and never trust anyone you've been teaming with unless you've teamed with them before successfully (and unless their a real life friend still be suspicious keeping them in sight ).

The best way to practice handling these situations is to spend less time server hopping for loot (or even searching one server for loot ) as soon as you spawn run to the nearest populated area (now usually novodomitrovsk , was berezino before ) and pick up a gun and some ammo , don't waste time looting and just start to talk with people , first hiding in cover, second commanding the suspect to Holster or point the weapon down , third is to quickly interrogate them (and try not to kill them otherwise you've missed the point of communication ) . If the conversation runs smooth tell him to drop his weapons (all firearms) on the ground and after that bolt outta there (remember people can have MANY weapons if they wish to fill their backpack with them but typically the gun hoarders only carry 4 max two mains one in hand and one on back and two pistols so be prepared to tell them that you know they have more guns cuz they usually have a lot lol . )

Because I carry two, my Mosin on my back and my CQB assault rifle in my hands.

Let me ask you, who are you to judge what another free person "needs"? Does a free man have to NEED something in order to do it? Why do YOU need to shoot everyone you see is the real question.

Pretty simple answer really, I am the judge, the juror, I am the law. If your carrying two guns, ill shoot you. Your just twice as threatening to me.

I ask people to get naked and drop the weapons. You either get naked or get shot, your choice.

If the person get naked then we are all good, I stop pointing the gun and we can have a conversation/I help the dude if he needs. "Nothing personal, really, I just need you to get naked lol."

If people shooting on sight is what makes DayZ great, shouldn't Call of Duty be great as well?

I have to say I'm siding with OP.  I see you with a gun out, you look hostile.  Nothing else to it.  If I approach you, you bet your ass I have my gun pointed at you and my friends LRS sighted on you as well.  You don't put it away, you are getting blasted.

So you are saying you have your gun out as a precautionary measure.  Well guess what, I'm gonna shoot your ass as a precautionary measure too.

Yes, I do.  And guess what, I meet friendly people everywhere.

Not saying this is true for you, trev, but I think i'm starting to see a relation with people complaining about being KoSed with their guns out, then in other posts saying they never meet friendly people...

that is fine....ull be taking time to pull out your gun so i have more chances to evade vs if i run across the KOS krews who always have theirs out and ready to fire.

that said prolly would not run across each other anyways since I hangout in the northwest any how

I mean I guess it just comes down to how you approach a situation.  If I am somewhere dangerous, mos def I'll have my weapon out; I'm expecting a firefight.  But anywhere besides Berezino, military installations and airfields, I'm running around hands free talking to people.  Someone looks hostile, I won't approach them or will talk to them from safety.

There is always cover around.  If you are fired at, taking cover should be your first objective, weapon out or not.  Once there, you certainly have enough time to pull our your weapon and return fire.

Once all geared up I dont just head off to unnecessary areas unless i need anything...but then basically everyone will see you a meal ticket and try to kill u even if u give out peaches.

I allways have at least a pistol in my Hand if i enter a village. If this is proof to OP iam hostile..so be it...but i for sure wont pack it away if some squeeker directs me to do so.

I came out of Meeting Groups that barked orders of putting the gun away...whilste they aimed at me...eh...most People are such bad shots....

You don't put it away, you are getting blasted.

I meet People that where not as shortsighted...they understood its for my own protection to have a gun in my Hand...had good talks that way and later everyone holstered their pewpew´s after we established a conversation. But i guess thats too much effort for some People.

Anyways...my RULE is: dont give ammo to strangers...

Ah ok so i got through reading MOST of the thread but unlike what the OP stated it is actually a KoS whine thread mixed with a my justifications of being a KoS bandit shooting people calling it survival cause he is judge jury etc etc well thanks judge dread...

Your a bandit and as such i commend  all those who shoot you. Why can i say that well because ( best sly impersonation) I AM THE LAWWW

You should just admit, while there are no rules and no judge, you do not care. You have the right to have your gun out for self protection? So do I. I am a thread to you? So are you to me. And of course, when I enter a city or village, I draw my gun as you do too. When I see you, I let you go, but I observe you from afar. Many people I encountered, just shot at me. No try to converse. I didn't even see them. I didn't know about them. I wouldn't cared. If that happens too often, you might change your mind and the side.

True.

The thread essentlially reads like:

"Every player who has his gun out is a threat and needs to get shot instantly. To be aware of that, I always have my gun out."

Sounds legit.

That makes you a bandit. You do realise that, right? It's all the same to me, I like shooting people of all creeds at the slightest provocation.

Let the "I EVADE ALL PEOPLE COS THEY EVIL, YO!" posts commence.
