hombrecz 832 Posted August 15, 2014 Meh, I don't think it would do a whole lot, honestly. I mean, the fact that the devs would have to apply it to every model would definitely get annoying, even with just the amount of firearms we have now.I'm not superbly opposed to the idea, but you also have to consider that letting people just duct tape attachments would render the requirement of looking for rails moot. The flashlight isn't a huge advantage, but if you want to tape a flashlight then there's nothing really stopping you from taping a PEQ box, or a foregrip on. I say just leave it to rails. If the gun comes with rails, you're set, if you can find rails, you're set, if you can't find rails or the gun doesn't support them, you'd better find a different weapon for nighttime. It would really entice people to change up their playstyles. It'd also make unique attachments like NVG scopes or even hyper-rare thermal scopes more versatile. Well as I see it, Dayz could use more improvised stuff in general. Really, taping flashlight to rifle is not rocket science. I also disagree with "taping everything". While adding flashlight would have sense for night, taping foregrip would be foolish as it would wobble and fall off quickly, since you would apply quite some force by holding it while firing the weapon. By going with the same logic you could disagree with adding baseball bat with nails. Why, when you could simply loot axe right? Well reason is to enrich gameplay, provide more options as well as add bit of realism. So I'm all for a lot more improvised things and since dev team has grown up considerably, they should find time to do this at some point.Rocket himself said, that SA should be supported for several years. I fial to see why adding things like ducting flashlight to rifles something impossible or non-desirable. Also why not saw-off most of the rifles too? We got sawn-off shotty, mosin, but why not sporter or pump action shotgun, once it's in? There is really no reason NOT to do it , except that it takes time and resources. But hey, they've sold over 2 mils of the game, PS4 port is in play, only the sky should be the limit !
Katana67 2907 Posted August 15, 2014 I'd be in support of being able to duct-tape flashlights, if it had some sort of downside compared to mounting a flashlight properly on a rail/mounting point. Maybe just having it decay over time would be a good idea, so that looted rails and dedicated weapon flashlights can maintain a distinct use. And while I want the ability to cut down most weapons in DayZ, I wouldn't want things like the M4A1, AK-101, or AKM to just have their barrels cut off and that's the end of it (like the Mosin). I'd be more than willing to sacrifice a bit of "realism" if when I "sawed off" the barrel of my M4A1, it just turned into a Mk 18 (with flash hider and all). Same applies for the AK-102 and AKMSU respectively. But, if that were the case, I'd just rather they be included as distinct variants.
doctorbadsign 645 Posted August 15, 2014 I'm happy with the direction that the guns are taking in this game. What I want is more knives... And with that a slit throat animation that can be used when you sneak up on people.
