Blocks around one round of 5.56 or around 10 rounds of .22.

Does not block 7.62x39 and above or .357 and .45 ACP.

im trying not to look a a major threat. im thinking of swaping my helmet for a boonie hat and my black tactical shirt for a green hoodie or t shirt. Im tired of being kos. I wish they had a nirvana t shirt in this game.

I don't bother with helmets. Doesn't block large caliber and they can just aim for my body anyway. I feel like it does make people target you a bit more though; same reason I don't wear gasmask or camo shirts. UN helmets are cool though; you can always count on Peacekeeper Larry!

Do run ballistic protection if you are playing in a group. There's no downside to looking menacing when your gang's bigger than theirs.

Yesterday, one of us got shot with an intermediate cartridge or something twice in the head and twice in the chest. His stuff and helmet was ruined. After the attacker was removed, we stuck some blood up his ass and he was back up in no time.

And here's what I looked like months ago in exp after being pelted with 5.56.

ima be a lone wolf for a while. im thinking of swaping my fully upgraded ak with drums and banana clips and hundreds of rounds for a mosin with an lrs or just toss my pistol and change all my military clothes for less menacing clothes.

just shot a guy in the chest while looting balota. combat feels really rewarding in this game. half of the loot was ruined including an lrs but I took it anyways. will it still work? ive used a badly damaged one and it worked fine.

I think fi it's already equipped and becomes ruined, you cans till use it, but if it's by itself, I don't think you can equip it.

You can use it for long range vision, but the accuracy will be absurd on anything below pristine. If I have no pristine one, I carry any version, as it takes less slots than binoculars. I don't use it for combat though. If I also have a longhorn, I might use it instead (but then I likely won't carry a mosin).

1) Mosin with pristine LRS

2) Longhorn (pristine) with an automatic main firearm (or sks in a pinch)

3) Mosin with non-pristine LRS, but not used to fire with using scope.

4) Whatever I have with binoculars

You really are gonna want something to scope in on cities and AOE's in this game. Makes a massive difference if you camp a zone for 10-20 minutes beforehand to see if anyone's around.

UN helmets? Depends who you wanna associate yourself with , haha. UN banner typically flies over some of the biggest shitbag soldiers ever.

I am in no way implying his reason for those settings are thus, but a lot of people turn their graphics down because it makes it a lot easier to see other players.

I generally have less respect for people sporting shitty graphics since it's so common =P

Again though, not implying that's the case here, maybe ya just got a shitty comp.

Also, on topic.

The multiple head gears stack in absorbing damage, so wearing a helmet+whatever else you can fit on your face gives you added protection.

I'm a fan of style>function though.  And helmets aren't very stylish.

so I don't need these pristine binocs then. I don't play much at all but I have soo much high quality gear and im not using it for what it was intended for because I don't look for trouble. trouble has found me 9 times and 4 out of the 9 my gear saved me. killed one guy with a magnum after he bum rushed me, killed two with a mosin after being shot in the back with a mosin and spray one with an ak but destroyed all the gear.

Hell yeah it is. Dont forget that a fresh spawn can knock you out with one punch if you have no helmet. You will never be more pissed in your life than when a fresh spawn hacker spots you from a mile up on a mountain and hits you in head from behind to get your gear. It happened twice to me. Even though they hack, they still have to find gear so they use the ability to spot players. Of course, non hackers can knock you out too.

what is a good cheap headset I can buy on amazon or ebay? I see a lot and don't know enough about them. I have an ak with 2 drums and 2 banana mags and want to team up with a sniper or something so we can annihilate anything that stands in our way. it would be the perfect duo. short to med range coverage with med to long range coverage. but I don't play all to often. also for some reason 8 out of 9 of my encounters were in close quarters. does any1 else feel that way?

Screenshots>f12

Heasdset>I recommend turtle beach x12 - Got it for £20 on Amazon and works great

On Topic - If you are a lone wolf keep all your best gear, people will shoot you no matter what you are wearing. To me theres no point trading down to look friendly when the other player will just justify the kill some other way...."oh look a bandit gearing up" when really they haven't a clue how you are playing.

Practice getting close without getting seen, then making contact before they know you are there. I think it helps a lot when they know you could have ended them already, but have decided to make contact instead. Fosters a little mutual trust maybe. Some people will still backstab though....even after a while and a few loot runs together....such is dayz :)

Yes, if it's pristine. I used to be very skeptic about a friend of mine wanting to wear one at all times.

Even when it didn't fit his style. A ballistic helmet and a wool coat? Ugh.

Anyway, he was crouching in a bush this one time at Balota and someone shot him in the head.

He lost consciousness but got up and made a full recovery. Now I wear it too when I anticipate incursion.

Still it's pretty damn ugly if you're not wearing anything militaristic.

I disagree that people will KoS no matter what if you are a lone wolf.  While sure, it does happen to time to time, but recently I have been rocking exclusively cowboy hats and police caps, and through multiple experimental characters and close to a month on my stable character, I have not been KoSed.  Maybe all you KoS complainers just have your approach and appearance all wrong.  Or all you do is hang out in Berezino on high pop servers.  Either way, DayZ is as much a game in psychology as it is in survival or shooting.

More on topic... For me, I don't trust strangers in military loot.  And that means helmets, full camo gear, high capacity vests, etc.  If I am with a group, I probably will shoot them.  Chances are they have some valuables.  If I am alone, I will only confront them if they have no weapon out and I have the drop.
