I have an akm with 2 drum mags, 2 banana clips fully loaded and it has all the attachments and I have a fnx 45 with 4 mags fully loaded and it has all the attachments. I also have an ammo box with 160 7.62x39mm rounds and 40 .45 rounds. I also have a vest, ttsko uniform and hunters backpack. should I lighten my load on the weapons and ammo or swap out my ak for a mosin with lrs and a bipod. I usually play on low population servers but if I had a headset and a buddy I would go on high population servers cuz every time I encounter someone they always kill me. Ive only killed 3 people. 2 out of self defense and one because I was sick of being hunted. I want to know what would be the optimal loadout would be for this game.

The best loadout is really whatever you feel most at ease with. I had a buddy in the mod who would always use a MOD0....even if we had a tent full of AS50, was just the wep he preferred and he was good with it, even at very long range.  If you are sporting the AKM with drum mags, id probs say you would play the approaching role. What you need now is a sniper to watch the meet from a good 400m+ away for cover. :)

You're over equipped for watching paint dry.

Whatever you're most comfortable with using, as has been said before.

However, if you're looking for a specific answer, I'd probably keep the setup you have, although if you're going for a purely self defense setup then you could probably ditch a few of those mags and some ammo.

Otherwise go for an MP5-K if you can find enough 9x19mm rounds and magazines, it's a great PDW, and a high capacity handgun like the FNX or CR75 should be your backup weapon (Whichever you prefer; FNX for higher damage, attachment versatility, and the fact that it doesn't share ammo, or CR75 for the fact that it DOES share ammo). The Amphibia or Magnum also work but if you're going for self defense then .22LR is too weak and the suppressed effect isn't necessary and the Magnum is too low capacity, and it's more of an offensive weapon because of high damage and fast reloads.

ehmagerd.

He comes, fully armored with tons of guns, asks for the "best" loadout, but only killed 3 guys out of defense

xD

there is no "perfect" loadout.

But if you want to get killed more often, try to go for total TTsKO-clothing :P

There is no "best" weapon in DayZ really. No "best" clothing.

A player in a "Trapper"-role can kill you with the B95. A "bandit"-kiddo can kill you with a magnum, mosin or anything.

I personally try to only have 10-20 shots for 1 weapon and normally I carry 1-2 weapons (B95, Crossbow + Revolver/Sawn off shotgun).

The rest of my equipment is filled with cooking-tools, 6 canteens, 7 cans of beans and bacon and a med-pack with saline-bags and rags.

This way I have 2-6 free slots to take some items whenever I want.

xD

And yet a n00b with a mosin can end it all in an instant!

Personally I prefer high pop servers. More chance of running into someone and you can't really gear your way out of an ass-whoppin in this game. You can increase your chances, sure, but if a couple of guys with rifles and ill intent spot you on long range it won't matter much. Of course that means that I die more often.

Also a personal preference, but I don't think you can ever have enough ammo for your main gun. I remember this time where I thought I'd NEVER use the 60+ SKS rounds I had on me, but then we ran into three guy, had a really cool long gunfight and in the end I left with all grey vision and like five shots in the gun. Granted, that was before you could sort out good ammo from a ruined stack.

weapons are a tool just like cutlery.

The question is just as vague as 'what utesil should i use to eat my dinner'.

well, it depends on the dish, of course ;)

That said, your kit is pretty apex at the moment...

If you have AKM you obviously do not need pistol at all, since AKM is superb at close range and ok up to midrange or so.

Pistol or MP5K is desirable if you have Mosin+LRS for sniping.

Btw if they really fixed shotgun, I will try to survive with shotty and maybe a pistol, ideally a magnum.

Wish we could already craft arrows then I would go with crossbow or bow + pistol or sawnoff.

Here, I propped up these little graphs with a relative rating for how firearms can be used. Basically, you should decide which weapon fits in a spot that most supports your preferred playstyle.

Defensive capability means handling and offensive capability means damage output, roughly said?

Where did you get this/the data for this?

i also have a green ballistic helmet and a high capacity vest. should i get rid of those since they are decent loot? the way you guys told me about the clothing i was thinking if i should ditch my tactical gear and my ak and go for a more subtle look but my hope is to one become someone who kills people who kill other people for gear. i really want to make friends in the game but i dont have a headset and everyone i meet kills me or tries to. on time i had decent gear and i was shot in the back by the little silenced amphibian. another time i had an sks and was looting a dead body when 2 gots shot me up. another time someone said it was safe to come near and when i met him a bunch of guys shot me up. another time i..... the list goes on and o. ikilled  1guy to gt out of the north east airport and I had a mosin with an lrs and a magnum. i found an lrs and decided to leave but then 3 dudes ran into a building so i decided to test it out. i hit onebut somehow he still made it into the building and patched himself up. then he came out running zig zag and tried to bum rush me with a mosin and then i unloaded my magnum on him, took hi bullets and hit in another building. i waited for about 10 minutes and then walked into the building where they were staying and they were gone. then i left the base and made it to a nearby town and logged off. the next day i killed two campers with my mosin. i got lucky with one cuz he had an sks and i had my mosin and a zombie attacked him so i shot both of them, and another bum rushed me with a pick axe and i shot him in the head with my mosin. then i took a road trip all the way to the north west airfield and the surrounding areas where i found my ak and its parts but along the way i was finding soooo much ak ammo and very little mosin ammo. i got hit by a mosin in the back and didn't die when i got near there. only all my shit was broken and i had blurry vision. i logged off on that fight cuz i was scared.

mosin if you are camping, m4 (or poor man's m4 called AKM) if you are active. That's it. Also SKS is decent if you have infinite clip for it.

It's just relative, not a perfect chart by any means. Higher magazine capacity and handling are what I tended to dictate as defensive (although I had to put the M4 and AKM towards the middle because they're the run of the mill weapons at the moment) The ability to dish out damage coupled with rate of fire and range tends to put weapons on the offensive scale (short ranged weapons tend not to fair well for assaulting). That's why the MP5-K, even though it's select-fire, is on the defensive end, because it's short ranged and does not deal a ton of damage in a short period of time, like an offensive weapon should.

I use the AKM right now but if I'm just as happy with a sks and a few stripper clips. I do carry 1 ammo can full of 7.62. I don't really carry much food just some ham steaks right now. and 1 canteen. I have 2 30rnd mags for the AK. Had a drum but I ditched it, I don't like the look of em and don't get in shoot outs that much. The rest of my space is firstaid kit, stone, fishing supplies, cooking supplies, a couple books and then random tools while I look for teh protector case to store them like can opener, compas ect. I only carry a main weapon and fireaxe to save on space. I hardly ever use a handgun anyways. For clothes I'm using a brown sweatshirt, grey jeans, green mountain pack and black high capcity vest. Also brown beanie, black gloves, grey low hiking boots and gas mask.

The less you have, the less you lose.

All you need is a crowbar, a tube of astroglide, two really good friends, and trust.  I mean a wool coat, a box of ammo, and an SKS.  PU scope is icing on the cake.

Next time you die, try gearing up by only looting things that move.

so i guess i have the tools need to go to cherno and fuck people up. i need to stop being a punk and play the game and have fun. im going to hit novoselky and balota then ima go to cherno where i will try to kill as many people as i can then die. i probably wont kill too many since i suck at this game. when i die then ill go to heavily populated servers and get used to that.

Excellent!  Learn how to die. Learn how to live.

Find a pvp server and go to Berezino.
