is the community completely broke right now? :(

Recommended Posts

I'm concerned right now about the state of Dayz Mod, it seems with this latest DayzCommander update about 90% of the people I play with cant connect to servers, and the servers they can connect to are all dead.

I myself booted up dayzcommander this morning to look at my favorites which were all just showing as IP's and not the server names...I know DayzCommander is having issues but asking admins to update their servers and people to switch to new launchers on a game this old may just have killed it...from what I'm reading more and more server subs are being cancelled on a daily basis.

Is there any way back from this mess?

The public hive broke recently and it doesn't seem clear if or how that is resolved.

GameSpy's corpse has finally been buried.

DZC will die with it unless it converts to Steam.  Which seems unlikely.  So the choices appear to be either the in-game browser or WithSix.

Nobody likes change, but DZC users who are lost or confused brought this upon themselves by waiting until the inevitable disaster already happened.

Dayzlauncher is ridden with just as many bugs as DZC right now....it doesnt detect half of the mods I have installed and it frequently crashes.

I can not even join a server without Battleye initialization failed messages popping up. I miss Dayz

I to miss my Dayz along with most of my old clan members. We are all at a loss as to how we get our Dayz back to consistence reliability.

I can't for the life of me get past unknown files and files not excepted errors by servers no matter what I try in either in game servers or Play with Six.

I miss my Dayz after 2 bloody good years!

And as you say the servers do appear to be dropping like flies.

Quit relying on launchers to hold your hand then!  It's SOOOO damn easy to install the game via Steam and manually connect to servers.  People are making this so much more difficult than it is.  Install via Steam, look for a good server at https://www.gametracker.com/search/dayzmod/ by sorting and filtering with terms for what you like (ie vanilla or epoch or 1,000 vehicles etc etc), and copy/paste the IP into the "REMOTE" window in DayZ's multiplayer menu.  It's incredibly simple.  People are making this a much bigger problem than it is by refusing to cut the umbilical chord with launchers/installers/browsers.  They were nice to have when manually installing DayZ was a challenge, but now it's as simple as clicking "install/update" in Steam.  Having a good server browser would be great but don't rely on them if they're broken.

Install/update with Steam.  It's actually much easier and more reliable than it used to be.  It's the misguided users that are making this difficult.

The servers that are disappearing are servers that refuse to update to the new patch.  That's their own fault and it's a good thing that they're going away because BattlEye doesn't support the old A2OA beta servers anymore so they were getting torn apart by hackers.  Also, have you ever noticed there's a few thousand DayZ mod servers but only a few hundred that have players?  I never understood why the hell people kept empty servers running for over a year.  I think it's great that there's fewer servers that are more populated now!

Do a search on google, you can resolve this by double clicking on the .exe file in the BE folders inside A2 and A2OA or by manually reinstalling BE.  Shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Amen, can't stress this enough.  It's the users that are bringing this on themselves.  I've been trying to help people on Reddit but they are belligerent about continuing to use DZC and for some reason completely refuse to update properly through Steam.  I don't get it.

DZC seems to be fixed now. I've been watching the server count rise over the last few hours.

i cant seem to get dayz commander to work, it isnt showing the arma 2 or arma 2 OA file locations and just repeats to me that i have to open the games before i open the commander, their latest patch completely fucked everything up in my opinion, any ideas on how i can fix the commander to load a server?

Sad that the hive has gone but private hives were always my preference anyway. Thanks for all the helpful posts in this thread, been off the mod for a month or 2 so iv missed this game spy thing. So at this moment is commander usable or is direct IP connecting the best bet still?

DZC has been updated to work with Steam, the all too often ignored WithSix works as well and a new tool DayZ Launcher has appeared.

Direct IP connection has become more tricky, as without GameSpy automatic port forwarding has also gone (yes, GS did that too) and servers need manually forwarded ports configured to be seen behind firewalls.

I had no idea about this...tell me more.  What are the symptoms of this?  I use the "remote" tab to join US434 and have had no problems with that.  I have set up port forwarding for my router with all the recommended ArmA 2 port ranges that are found on the web...are you saying additional ports need to be opened?

Perhaps its your PC thats riddled with bugs? First time I've heard of Launcher not detecting mods/installing proper addons.

IMO, I'd prefer to the use the officially supported Play with6 but lately, I cant get it's bikeys to work with the servers I join. Same happened with DZC. Launcher came along and basically did everything for me and most-importantly (for me), the bikeys worked.

There are no extra client side ports to open that I am aware of,  However, unless manually configured, most clients and home brew servers are probably using the (dreadfully primitive) default Windows firewall "allow" setting, which opens all (!) TCP and UDP ports.  They will be none the wiser with every port open to the game anyway.

If a server can be seen then it's ports are forwarded correctly.  If a server can't be seen by clients, not forwarding the required ports correctly, or at all, may be the reason.  I've never had or read about any client side connection issues.

I personally don't use DayZCommander anymore.

DotJosh is just too slow with updating... maybe not willing, maybe not capable, he seems to have other things in priority (that´s all his own decision and we have to accept it)... no one knows.

Search for a nice server @Gametracker... Connect to server --> Multiplayer --> Remote --> IP+Port --> Boom you´re in.

^^  This.  I have no idea why people cannot part with DZC.  It's outdated and broken and killing off the mod faster than anything else out there, yet people STILL recommend it all the time as the go-to for installing and browsing, and admins are too afraid to update to the latest version of DayZ mod for fear of losing their players that use DZC.  It's sad.  I wish dotjosh would just let it go and take it down.  I understand that real life gets in the way and it can be difficult to find time to keep things up to date, but it's really doing more damage than good now.

Yep, I´m extremely happy that my heavily modded server reached 20 players yesterday... at version 1.8.2  :)

I also run a server at 100% vanilla, which is at 3-4 players max because of DayZC not updating.  :(

Nope its fucked.

Fucked good and ripe only to keep ravaging away at what was once untainted fruit, but is now but a mere sack of protruding guts, and infertile womanhood cursed with bad breath and scoliosis.

I'ts fucked.

The meat curtains have drawn down upon this act long ago.

Guess I'll have to wait till I can afford a new rig that'll run Arma 3.
