Anyone else feel humiliated when killed?

Recommended Posts

I don't die that often, even though I stick to the north east corner all the time. My character on regular has been alive for 4 weeks. I try to take out people that KOS and camp buildings to kill everyone that steps in. Just trying to do Chernarus a favor.

Anyway, I was in Novo meeting up with new players in the huge tower. As this was on experimental, I thought it would be easy to make new friends. I met some new friends, who got killed by some douchebag camping the apartments across the big town square.

I felt like it was my duty to kill them, I knew where they were and I wanted to avenge my dead friends.

So I moved down, went around the buildings, and went into one of the apartments to the left of the square (if you look from the tower) to see if I got a shot on him.

I thought I heard footsteps, but I couldn't tell. At this time I was almost at the top of the house with these staircases people tend to camp, only wearing a tshirt, and I have no idea why but I stepped over a raincoat, and felt like I had to take it.

That's when I heard footsteps, and half a second later bam. SKS shots and I was dead. He was camping the house I was in.

How could I be so stupid not to check the top room? I feel so humiliated. I always think I'm better than these a-holes camping buildings/mountains. But this.. I don't feel like playing, I feel so bad.

I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way after getting killed. It's a game, but it has more emotional connections than any other game I've ever played.

You lost your concentration when you went for the raincoat there. Now you know that dealing with players is top priority :)

most bulding camping guys have a big advantage against legitimate players, they glitch through the walls and spot you way earlier than you ever have the chance to notice him.

they can just wait for the perfect moment to come around the corner to shoot you while they watch every of your steps.

so thats not your fault

Mistakes are what makes us human. You were trying to make the (virtual) world a better place, and for that I commend you.

You can't take role playing too far. It's not possible. You either play the role, or you don't.

That's the most beautiful thing I've read

Our in-house poet!

I hate dying and I hate losing games. The only time I do not mind dying in a videogame is when the fight was GOOD and you're the only one who can make it a good fight by slaying everyone who is in your way. Or dying heroically.

That's probably an unfortunate habit picked up from playing a lot of videogames. We get obsessed by minute details that do not matter because games have taught us to be obsessive about things that can improve our stats.Just like loot-hoarding. I find it very, very difficult to unlearn that. I have to take everything with me BECAUSE IT MIGHT HAVE A USE SOME DAY! That and I swear I ended up with ADHD from all this gaming.

You should keep your eye on the money at all times and you might die doing so. You shouldn't be too careful either, just play the way you always play. Kind of like dating someone, just be yourself.

I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way after getting killed. It's a game, but it has more emotional connections than any other game I've ever played.

Meh, I hate losing. I used to play Diablo 2 hardcore and cry like a ninny when my high-level character died. Lot of time and effort went into it.

Luckily, time and effort in DayZ are next to none unless you get attached to all your military gear which you shouldn't. What does annoy me is not being able to fight with the people that were alongside with me and having to hear them struggle over TS while i'm off in the middle of nowhere running around without pants saying "hi" to people who chase me with axes.

I used to be feel ashamed and humiliated back in the early mod days, but now I tend to take a death with a pinch of salt, there are so many flaws in the game which you can associate the reasoning of your doom with. I found its easy to get over after a while, just tell yourself the its the game.. cuz the game is broke, that's what I do :) When its fixed and only user mistake can be the cause.. then I sincerely hope to get all them kinds of feelings back!

Anyone else think Role playing others can be fun to watch.. but an embarrassing thought to participate in?

I played WOW for year, so I am used to RP. Heck, not playing a role is basically playing a role, if you think about it a bit. If you are a survivor, that is a role. You might not treat it like you are RP, but you are nonetheless.

Now, I have no desire to dress up like a tranny and parade around the map waving flags of peace, but I do appreciate the wide availability of styles that can play in my sandbox. I do hope we have some good ways of comm in the future, so we can understand people a bit better. What is the status of the walkie-talkies now? A couple months ago they were going to enable the text over them for long range testing, then they broke them. Did they get them fixed?

I was more talking about the folk who talk fantasy about their lives inside the videogame world as if that life was real, how many children they have/or lost.. relationships and friendships forged in the virtual world.. both acting out scenarios and telling these stories to other like minded roleplayers, whilst playing inside the game itself, like a fairytale.

not a RPG per se but a playstyle if you will.

its fun to watch people act and talk like its real, on youtube videos etc.. but like I said.. it's something that would feel awkward for me to even try. I dont think I could take it seriously enough.

Some youtube channels for Dayz are hysterical. I love Chow.
