Why not random spawn on joining next server?

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

What would the majority think about the idea to let players randomly spawn after leave one server and join another? at the moment it is like you spawn at the same place like you leaved on last server, my idea is to let the player spawn randomly if he is changing server.

i think it has many advantages:

- in battlesituations its not possible by serverhopping to ambush the opponents

- its not possible to gear up really fast by serverhopping, because you can not plan your route

- players who are related to one server would build up faster a community

what do you think?

Horrible! Some people like to play in teams and it would be completely unrealistic to teleport from one place to another, not to mention annoying.

stay on one server, and you can play in teams.

for better undertanding, if you join same server again, of course you will spawn same place you leave server before.

why is beeing "addicted" to one server horrible?

That is not what I said so I will not answer your question but I will humour you with how I feel about it:

Sometimes a server goes down and I want to continue my game or the server is not full enough to my liking and I want to run into more people.

Why should I randomly spawn elsewhere, spending up to 30 minutes to get back where I was possibly getting killed doing something really boring, namely holding down W till I get to where I was? Then I have to wait on everyone I have been playing with to do the same  and by the time we are all together again, it is time to log off. Next day, we might not be able to join the server because it is full or it might not be there for some reason and we get to do it all over again.

So no. Random spawns are bad. ghosting should be fixed some other way and server hoppers will hopefully become less and less frequent with respawning loot

@King Raptor

yes, this are understandable reasons. for passiv forced other serverjoinings this system would be a disadvantage. maybe there are ways to distinguish passiv serverhopping from active.

perhaps i see it to much in my view, i hate serverhoppers, for me its close to cheating, and i would appreciate any method to be sheltered from this.

you mean a randon log-in location only when you join a new sever

- to defeat 'server hopping' for loot

- to encourage players to stay with one server

I understand your point, it is logical.

For myself - I like moving from one server to another, I am a Wandering Player, not a "hopper"

I'm not much of a murderer or a military looter. I might be a sheep-stealer ( but I deny it )

A random location the first time you arrive on a server, puts you in danger ( and who needs danger ? )

The anti-ghosting timer is already a sanction against rapid logging in/out, and therefore also against changing servers

but still .. what you say makes sense, I just have a feeling players won't like it.

The Clans that gear up on their "Join=Kick private" clan server to go PvP on other servers, especially will not like it.

Any groups that raid "other people's" servers, won't like this idea at all.

i see, with respawning loot it does make no sense for hopping servers for looting, and making players to wait some minutes before joining other server its a good way to prevent ambushing.

and in future also coming private servers where rules can be done for the existing community, so i think everybody can find servers for there preferred style to play.

gosh how long ago has it been? I can't remember at this point but it was a while ago as rocket used helicopter parts as an example of a type of gameplay he would like to see. he suggested that if you can't seem to find a certain widget to get your heli running but you know of another widget on someone else's heli over on another server so you and your boys go raid that server for their parts to fix your heli.

your suggestion would make that entire scenario all but impossible.

I play whatever server I feel like playing on and I personally expect to be in the same location when I log on to whatever server I so choose.

private hives are now and will always be a separate issue.

yes, i do understand. to make serverhopping as a part of the gamestyle will let the whole game be more dynamically.

there is a danger if people are forced to one server that the playroutines are coming too fast same and boring, with serverhopping as a part of the game itself, more different situations are possible.

actyually that would be kinda cool.  but make it a choice in the config menu.

As I've mentioned in another, very suspiciously similar thread, if you imagine that each server is a parallel universe and your character has the magic power to change instantly between these worlds (by sitting on the ground for 30 seconds) then you will have far fewer issues with ghosting and the like.

This is actually not a bad idea. As long as if you join the same server you spawn in the same spot, honestly it can get annoying, but if you just stick with one med/high pop server, it wouldn't be a problem at all

..//..

doing something really boring, namely holding down W ..

..//..

don't knock it

DaZy the unicorn-pig says:

never forget, kids  =>  holding down W can get you out of trouble faster than anything except death !

but..

the new Experimental update right now, seems to be introducing some form of permanent storage, plus object duration through resets, and continuing spawns between resets - or some limited subset of these things.. says the chat. This will - soon - affect hopping and loot farming and other gameplay.. so the OP purpose for this thread may need revision shortly ??

I don't like this idea, a universal hive was implemented for a reason, namely to make sure your character is consistant over servers. And as someone mentioned earlier, it seems the devs intended for players to hop servers, and not just remain locked to one.

no need to, i've have already change my opinion after read other suggestions. i do understand serverhoping as a part of the metagame and with respawning loot and "penaltie's" for serverhopping most of my suggested points are equalized.

So it would take 30 + mins to meet up with friends every new server? Plus complications of course. Maybe you would spawn relatively random but with your group

Also people would just change server to get a better spawn

The only way I'd be semi-okay with it is if you joined your last server you'd be in the same spot. It really would end up horrible with some friends though.

Me "Hey buddy, the server we were on last isn't up. Join me on this one. We were at Novy last, right? Oh, I'm at Berezino now.

Buddy "Well, I'm at Kamenka. This game is fun. See you in half an hour."

I think being able to choose to spawn elsewhere might be O.K if there was a large demand for this feature.

I do not see any harm in letting people choose such an option since they would have no control over where they would spawn.

On the other hand, the game is all about being as difficult as possible so if you find yourself being lost, you should stay lost until you can figure it out on your own and not get an easy ticket out of there ... Hm, Nah, I don't think random spawns would work out for DayZ.

I like it, but dislike it. To combat clans ghosting/farming put on a timer, much like there is now. Say 30 minutes, if you join a different server within those 30 minutes, then you are randomly teleported. But people like me and King Raptor can log off with our friends, then come back together the next day.

Tl;Cant Read: If u an clan join b4 30 minuts den u all go scatter. If u w8 lyke nermal ppl, u sta.

Mkay? Mkay.
