Kawllie 18 Posted June 29, 2012 I'm majorly colorblind and I'm having a really hard time telling if I need to eat or drink. Could you implement a colorblind mode where your hunger/thirst is displayed in number or something like that?

Zeromentor 169 Posted June 30, 2012 I believe when you hit the lowest amount possible, being past that you start losing blood, the icon blinks rapidly until you eat or drink. Same with the blood icon blinking with a cross if you are bleeding.Sucks to be colorblind, but that is the best you can do for now. Hopefully you can try to assist rocket, maybe allow for an option somewhere to change the colors to something you can see (or if you see on a grey scale, maybe lighter for full, darker for empty?) calle 100 Posted June 30, 2012 I'm green/red colorblind and do also find it hard sometimes. What I do is look at the sky to see it clearer.
Kawllie 18 Posted July 1, 2012 I will try to get in contact with Rocket, and see if we can work something out.I'm green/red colorblind and do also find it hard sometimes. What I do is look at the sky to see it clearer. That does work, even better looking into a lake x)Another tip i have i leen really close to the screen and try to compare it to the blood icon, which is close to both water and food. WhiteTigerShiro 25 Posted July 1, 2012 I'm all for a colorblind mode, but given the wide range of green-to-brown-to-red that the gauge gets, it shouldn't be something that trumps the regular meters. If hunger was shown as a number, everyone would just switch to colorblind mode for easier hunger meters; at that point it might as well be the default setting.Kinda like how you can tell that blood pressure will eventually be hidden (given that it's only listed in the debug menu); so many people don't even look at their blood gauge on the actual hud unless they want to check for bleeding that it's going to be a shock for people when it's gone and you can't rely on it to know your exact status. So again, all for colorblind mode. Just don't want to see it be something that's SO over-the-top useful that it might as well be a default part of the UI (unless Rocket decides that he'd rather it be how the hud works). And as you said it will be abused if it would be numbers. But it would be easier to see if it was a gray-scale, or maybe some other combination.I belive its about 7-10% red-green colorblindness for men (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_blindness), so another combination would be more practical. You could also have it constantly flashing, altho with bigger caps to indicate the amount of hunger or thirst. Could be boring waiting for it to flash two times and try to calculate though.I sent a ticket (if you like) using contact the team. Hoping being able to help all us confused players starving with our bags full of food. =)
zipper 69 Posted July 1, 2012 +1 Not colorblind, but I definitely support this. Should be a standard feature on ALL games. Not sure why but it always seems like an afterthought to most companies.
krtshv 362 Posted July 1, 2012 I'm not colorblind but I support this. Colorblind people should have an indicator to help them with this (Maybe instead of color, make the irons into meter-like, draining as you go hungrier / thirstier).

Kawllie 18 Posted July 1, 2012 Pushing this thread a bit, there most likely is more colorblind people (or anyone really) with good suggestions.

It has the same problem as displaying it numerically, though. It'd be a great way for colorblind people to know how they're doing for food and water, but it would be SO effective that everyone would just switch to colorblind mode for the better food/water gauges. And again, since people like to jump to extremes in their rebutles, I am all for a colorblind mode being implemented. Just that the devs need to be careful about how they go about it, since it'd be easy to implement it in such a way that it might as well be the default UI if it conveys the information TOO well. Make it 100% visable in colorblind mode, and give it black borders. Makes it alot easier to compare without having to look strait up in the air.

Colorblind mode: All HUD indicators are completely black, but they slowly fade from 100% solid and slowly go transparent. When it gets to fatal points it blinks like normal. Just like that you have a color-neutral indicator that's able to fade along the same spectrum as the current Green-to-Red indicators. And yeah, I like the idea of putting a white box behind them so that you can see the indicators clearly without needing to pan your camera around. KWilt 157 Posted July 3, 2012 Damn. I like that idea. Negates the whole factor of color all-together. And it could pretty much be a fade through the gray spectrum, rather than just straight transparency. Might be a bit of a bitch to see when you're low on blood, though. That could be your number one problem.
