Remove LRS from Mosin?

Here's the thing to really consider here guys.

 

1)There is at least one sniper rifle one its way to stable that we currently know for sure, the CZ. There is also more then likely going to be an SVD coming as well. 

2) In the modern real world, the mosin would not be the most ideal choice for a sniper rifle period. Its vary old and vary old tech, currently really only used on the battle feild by rag tag rebels. Don't get me wrong its a great rifle for what it is, but if you presented me a SVD with its 10 round mag  and semi auto firing I would chose the SVD hands down. 

 

So would it break my heart to see it be shown for what it really is, an old WW1 era rifle, that was even a little dated then? Not really. Its also been nerfed already for clothing damage. But I would be heart broken if they took away all LRS....but this likely will not happen. 

 

All this is coming from someone who prefers a mosin playing DayZ because I like playing as a sniper. I'm saying all this because I would love to see better rifles put in game for this reason.

Regardless, allowing the mosin in game, which is the sniper variant by word of god (i.e. the devs), to use the LRS should be just fine.  Though I could see the argument of requiring to find a rail attachment for the Mosin first, outright not allowing it to accept an LRS or some other hunting sight does not make sense, given it is after all, the sniper variant, and obviously is and was used as a hunting rifle.

Given he liked my post I'm fairly sure this thread is done, LRS stays on the Mosin, although the addition of a rail modification to the game as a prerequisite is still something for debate, preferably in a new, more civil thread.

This whole thread is kind of pointless really. The reality is with in a couple months give or take there will more then likely be 3 long guns to chose from, maybe even more. The mosin, SVD and CV. The whole reason for this thread is because "Mjones" feels it un realistic to have a long scope mounted on a mosin or at least using the current method. The reality is it does really take work to mount a LRS to a mosin, but it can be done and they have been used as sniper rifles. It is also not most ideal sniper rifle in the world either. So I kind understand were he is coming from in a way, but its really not that big of a deal to me.

 

Mjones I do not feel is completely wrong about what he saying. But due to the fact there is more pressing things the game needs currently, then to worry about how hard the LRS is to mount to the mosin, or weather it should be mounted to the mosin or not.  The rest is just people trolling each other, there will be plenty of time for that after beta. Lets focus on real shit to make the game better in the long run.

Would it make sense to leave it as is until another rifle is released where it makes more sense to have it? Just allow the PU scope on it since it's a bent bolt already and we'll assume it's been tapped? My mosin is a 1943 Izhevsk round with a straight bolt which is about as common as it gets and I would've figured that'd be the one that was in the game.

I no longer own the mosin :( my mosin days happened just a few months after the fall of the soviet union so while the model 1891 was quite common the ammo was still fairly scarce (no one had imported all that cheap wolf ammo yet) so I either had to arm it with reloads from the gun shows or spend a fortune on Norma rounds at just over 2 bucks a pop (yes each cartridge) and the reloads were a bit unpredictable so after a bag of reloads and a good cleaning I sadly carried her to the local gun shop and said goodbye. in all fairness the 7.62x54r has a bit more recoil than an old lady like me can handle comfortably and she had been "sporterized" by whatever idiot had owned it before me so she lacked the hard collector value and most of her forestock else she would be hanging on my wall now. oh and she was a Tula Arsenal with matching numbers and soviet stamps over the imperial stamps - damn I wish she had been 100%.

 

I went back the British .303 Belgian as I seem to manage the recoil so much better.
