Red_Ensign 990 Posted July 21, 2014 when we find maps in buildings in russia (it's russia, right?), why aren't the city names in russian? we didn't find the maps in ohio.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted July 21, 2014 It's Chenarus, not Russia, while it is next to Russia and formerly of the Soviet Union, its it's own country with it's own language. Now yes it does use the Cyrillic alphabet, but there's other countries that use the same alphabet with their own language. I believe they are suppose to be tourist maps for non Cyrillic readers, but they SHOULD still have the the Cyrillic names above the Latin names since most if not all the road signs are in Cyrillic.
amiasfree 262 Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) It is weird now that I think about it, you'd either have to know Russian Cyrillic or look it up on the internet to know how to pronounce the names of the towns, which is kind of immersion breaking for the latter. boneboys 7988 Posted July 21, 2014 He's right, the name on the map should match those on the road signs.
Lithium1056 45 Posted July 21, 2014 There are also a multitude of apps for your cell phone/tablet people argue the immersion factor but they are there. I personally use IZurvive and turn off all legend keys aside from what's actually found in the in game map. I is no safer than using a map ingame because you have to take your eyes off the game to read the map, but it does prevent you from having to stop open and read a map close it and continue on. (If say you are running from Elektro to NWAF.

As far as the names matching the maps, most of the towns, at least the larger ones should have bilingual signs anyway like this one http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/43/E95_ie_M20_highway_sign_in_Leningrad_oblast_Russia_towards_Luga_and_Pskov.jpg/640px-E95_ie_M20_highway_sign_in_Leningrad_oblast_Russia_towards_Luga_and_Pskov.jpg Edited July 21, 2014 by Barnabus

Nienko 41 Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) After about 30 hours I did not need a map anymore. Chernarus is somehow easy to navigate. A3 Altis is the most dificuilt to memorize. Even after more than 200 hours I dont know where I am, if I dont have a map. Edited July 21, 2014 by Nienko
