DeatHTaX 1217 Posted July 20, 2014 Cowboy hat wearers are the good guys you fools! Day 7: The fools still believe I am a good guy. Little do they know I simply murdered one and put it on to gain their trust
maninthewall 470 Posted July 20, 2014 OP is right about all this. You can dress however you want in this game, so if you choose to run with a scary mask or full military gear clothing in an apocalypse you deserve to get shot :D

Zarr (DayZ) 0 Posted July 20, 2014 (edited) Cowboy hats: Now, you Americans are gonna hate me for this, but speaking from experience, people who wear cowboy hats are ALWAYS bandits. ESPECIALLY if they wear respirators and aviator sunglasses along with it. Kill these dudes on sight, no regrets. :( This is as close to how I would appear in real life(respirator because I'd be freaked about a pathogen I would not have much - if any - of a clear picture of). Also - one of the friendliest people you'll ever meet in game.Sheesh so harsh! **Edit: I DID find your post quite entertaining though :D. Thanks for the 'lol'!** Edited July 20, 2014 by Zarr

DaveATR 7 Posted July 20, 2014 Humorous. And spot on in a lot of points. My only disagreeance being with attire. I just assume all players are going to want to kill me for my PHATLEWTZ and the LOLZSNIPERKILLERZxLOLZ. I run around in camo, with a gas mask and a beanie. I also avoid highly trafficked areas, and explore a wealth of the map, sticking to the wilderness generally. My goal isn't to kill people in the game. Lately I've been exploring it to see all the changes made to every city. I am quite impressed with the map.

pilgrim* 3514 Posted July 20, 2014 I am suddenly and inexplicably compelled to drop all of my gear and to run as fast as I can straight to Green Mountain. What just happened to me? Irish, when you're eating your beans you don't kind of heap them up on your plate and squash them into a mountain shape, do ya ? (or do ya?) On topic - I think player name is a good point. Everyone on this thread seems as if they thought a moment or two about what name to give themselves.. hmm, except for .... LimeMobber 47 Posted July 20, 2014 My system is very simple. If I shoot a player then he MUST have been a bandit ;-)
trev186 389 Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) So a lot of posts pop up on how to spot a bandit I thought I would make an opposite one: 1. Run around in Capri pants2. have a sporter without a 30 round mag3. If you have a Hand gun don't let others see it else you are a bandit4. Stay out in the open5. Spend your time looting food6. If you have a gun don't ever run around with it out & ready to defend yourself. 7. Use only the child's backpack or purple back pack8. Don't ever shoot at people even if they fire at you9. Stay off the coast10. Stay out of military areas Do all that and you can fool others into thinking your not a bandit....or do it to fool others and kill them Satire aside there is no way to tell if someone is a bandit/KOSer unless they attack you on sight without warning and even if you flee or take cover and offer to negotiate they still pursue you. The game is full of people who want to kill you they come in all sizes and shapes. Your demise can come at the hands of some guy in purple canvas pants all awhile some guy in full TTSKO with an M4 may save your life. You could come across a fire fight and think the attackers are assholes when in reality the guy they are trying to kill could have been a sniper they chased who was firing upon them earlier. just because someone chooses to wear a cowboy hat and/or Military gear does not mean they are going to kill you. At the same time don't buy into the lie that this bambi you met is really going to help you. As soon as your geared you may find out you were nothing more than a disposable lookout/gear carrying mule until they could meet up with their friends or get a pack large enough to store everything. I have killed guys in check shirts & jeans at NWAF who were more aggressive then gas mask wearing marine look alikes whom I bumped into in the same area and had a decent conversation with before parting ways. The recurring theme is that if players are geared then they must be bandits & that stereotype comes from the NE part of the map. Where players gear up to then come in and try and rule Berezino over the bambis. If you play elsewhere on the map I generally find that gear has a lot less to do with it. For one in the non PVP focused areas of the map most the people I have killed have been people I hunted or those who have attempted to stalk myself. There are not a lot of campers most are on the move. What it comes down to is how you approach someone. A geared player may not want to risk all his equipment to go grief some noob in a hard hat who just ran to Vybor for their first time. On the other hand I have on a number of occasions spotted a geared player opposite a field from me and waved and received the same from them, a couple times we both shouldered our guns and discussed which areas we had looted from and let the other know if we had seen what the other needed. What makes more of a difference is how you carry yourself. Put yourself in a position where you are vulnerable when you have gear someone needs and they may kill you, Demand someone to drop their guns or fire warning shots on them when approaching someone from a flank position and they may decide to go down in a blaze of glory. I agree with the classifications and ALL Cowboy hat wearers MUST die and I am an American ! Edited July 21, 2014 by trev186
Khanarac 252 Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) In my own experience, the clown masks make me think "bandit" when the person walks around the corner. Why? Because, on average, players in clown masks have tried to put a bullet in my dome. The question is, when I see a clown mask, do I give the person a chance to prove my developed instinct incorrect or do I KOS? I kill them regardless if they are armed or not, shouting friendly or whatever. Everyone hiding his face will die, esp clown masks I also may add to your guide that the number of players in a group make a diffrence too. The larger the group, the more likley it is that it has someone going astray from a group*s "no kos"-policy or atleast "no-bambi-kos". Also its more likley they will have a member thats trying to convince the others to kill you. A single player or a duo is less likley to kill you. Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted July 21, 2014 I'll never understand why every single one of these topics always lack of objectivity. Also where do you categorize those of us who enjoy a good (man) hunt? "There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter."

Jex 1104 Posted July 21, 2014 Now. Nowhere in that definition does it say that bandits kill people for the sole purpose of their own personal enjoyment. I think the word you need to look up is "asshole"

DeatHTaX 1217 Posted July 21, 2014 I disagree, it was a major one of "those types" that got us into the Iraq war.... What you mean to tell me republicans AND democrats and citizens of all colors and creeds alike weren't hellbent on retaliation and war at the time? Don't answer that, you're arguing with history. Don't drink the Koolaid, exec ;) If you'd like to message me we can have a discussion about it, but until then, I'm already on the admin watchlist lol, and can't afford another topic derail today And on THAT note, back on topic :) I will have to say, I do love the cowboy look though. I'm a fan of the plaid shirt, leather shoes, cowboy hat look, but recently I've adopted the "Prohibition New Yorker" look. Flat cap, with black leather shoes, a courier bag with any combination of matching shirt, really. I look super non-bandity, but in this game it doesn't really matter how you look I guess
