hombrecz 832 Posted July 6, 2014 It's actually funny how many folks act tough in this thread. Keep on flexing your e-peen... Devs CLEARLY stated, that they do not aim for 100% realism, but that gameplay plays a big role too obviously. So night really does not need to be pitch black, no matter how tough guys here would enjoy stumbling in total darkness before they would log off or raise gamma themselves. I hope Devs will fine tune night to be both dark but also allow for some vision even if up to like 30-50 meters or something. Also the photoshoped picture of night with some colors was tasty, would like something like that! Also most importantly night should be the same for everyone, but please no pitch black darkness except shadows (forests) and I guess interiors.
WrecklessMEDIC 129 Posted July 6, 2014 Bullshit. You wouldn't even be able to see what kind of ground you were walking on.Actually, he's right. I work in Northern Canada and even on a fully overcast night with no moon, no stars and no artificial light source your eyes can adapt very quickly to the dark.Within 20-30 mins you can make out quite a bit and find your way around without much trouble. The pitch black version of DayZ nighttime was completely unrealistic. I'm glad they fixed it.

blaeZ 95 Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) Pitch black is unplayable (not to mention painful on the eyes), so i'm all for the grey. Maybe Hopefully, a more elegant solution is coming down the pike. Edited July 6, 2014 by blaeZ
jubeidok 495 Posted July 6, 2014 Pitch black is unplayable (not to mention painful on the eyes), so i'm all for the grey. Maybe Hopefully, a more elegant solution is coming down the pike. Nope. Pitch black is only unplayable to people who are pussies and too scared to use their light sources. It's a game, it's not real, it's ok to take chances.

No, pitch black is actually causing eye strain for me tbh. I have to either deal with screen glare - and I have a screen that barely glares, unfortunately when it's so damn black I have to turn all the lights off, causing further eyestrain. I do enjoy playing at night but not when it's pitch black you can't see two feet infront of you. I encourage night time servers and always play during night if there's a server that has a full 24h cycle.
blaeZ 95 Posted July 6, 2014 Speaking for JubeiDOK: "You dont like eye pain dude? Pussy!" I back you up 100%. Pitch blackness is not good on enjoyment or the eyes.

Irish. 4886 Posted July 6, 2014 Experienced total darkness a few times, where you can only rely on feeling and hearing. Had a group leader on a military exercise get himself entangled in three rolls of NATO barbwire. We couldn't see anything, nothing and we'd already been maintaining our natural night vision during the briefing and patrol. We freed him, feeling our way towards the yelling and freed him in blindness, until we used the light of a G-shock watch, which made a huge difference in the complete lack of light. My only real experiences with no light nights were on patrol of some sort.. ;)

jubeidok 495 Posted July 6, 2014 Looking through a 3 inch circle of light is not realistic or logical. Awe man, there truly is no end to the excuses that people will make to justify being pussies in a video game. LOL.

audax 207 Posted July 6, 2014 is really bad, why we cant have good old black pitch nights?
rybo 171 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) Eye strain? My flash light covers 75% of my screen when its on unless I'm point it into a field. Add to that the lantern I'm carrying is like a nuclear core in my hands. It's brighter than the sun in game lol. Maybe don't run in the pitch black...Doesn't really make sense...and you literally spawn with a flashlight... Skyrim in the caves is darker and a host of other games... jgbtl292 45 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) the biggest problem with the night is bad grey scale ^^ looks like 8 bit or 16 ^^ and when we have clouds than all time is the horzon to bright in bad weather ^^ he break the feel off stormy weather and the night to ;) Edited July 7, 2014 by Crusader78
doctorbadsign 645 Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) I like the dull nights. There is not enough light at night time for us to be able to see colour properly, so the grey scale is accurate. There is no electricity in Chernarus so there would be no street lights etc. It would get pretty dark at night time. All it needs now is for wondering zombies, or zombies that track you without constantly making noises or making subtle noises that you can't quite place. Imagine how scary it would be to get jump attacked by a zombie that you couldn't see or hear! On top of that we need wolves howling in the background and owls hooting and night time will be genuinely creepy. DayZ is a zombie game, and zombies are first and foremost part of the horror genre, and DayZ is severely lacking in the horror department. If done correctly the dark, dull nights could play really well into this. EDIT: On a side note it is pretty silly to call people pussies for not wanting pitch dark night time in their game. Its not like playing with them makes you actually hardcore or anything. It's understandable that an integral part of many people's gaming experience is to have something on the screen for them to control, so you can't blame people for wanting it. I do think however, that DayZ should keep its dark nights and the whingers should probably play something else if they don't like it. DayZ isn't for everyone, and it should never change in such a way so that it does become that. Edited July 10, 2014 by DoctorBadSign
supermarco 64 Posted July 10, 2014 I think the night should be more blue than grey.. in really life its still a little bit more blue than grey because of the starlight and the moon. I really don't understand why we should have flash light and gas light if it's useless to use it during the night because we can see clearly without. Yeah its a game, but I think they should find a way to make the flash light a must have during the night instead of just be useless... I'm often using it (when I'm a fresh spawn), but after a while, I just stop because I can see like day time -_-'.
starwarsfan@gmx.de 450 Posted July 10, 2014 They should just leave the night monocrome and reduce your viewdistance to 30-50 meters. The problem with night time in dayz is that you can either see nothing at all or you see everything(just black and white). There is no middle ground which is where you would be in real life. Outroduce 14 Posted July 11, 2014 New lighting system is damn awful. Even with clouded sky you can spot someone in forest in the dead of night, amazing... I just hate how devs makes this game more causual...
