TheMachine 803 Posted July 2, 2014 Before DayZ was released (6 months now?) Rocket talked about the possibility of 200 player servers (eventually). I understand the need for a game in alpha to test test and test again before stuff is added, but I'm saddened by the fact that even experimental servers don't seem to be upping the player count. Servers are just empty, save the few map hotspots that people farm for loot before moving on to bambi areas for some deathmatching. Part of what's so fun about Dayz is that behind every door and inside every window there could be someone waiting to hold you up, or bust a cap, or force feed you rotten bell peppers, but sadly I don't get that impression just now, not with 40 players online. I'd really enjoy it if I had to observe any town I enter for 5 minutes before concluding that it 'might' be safe, but I don't. I just bomb in there knowing it's empty, because there's 26 players online in a game with a fairly large map and this town doesn't spawn AK47's, so who's going to be here? What say ye', devs? I'd love to interact with more players on DayZ, even if that interaction is only them shooting me and calling me a faggot while I bleed to death with my backpack of rotten bell peppers. Zedertone 378 Posted July 2, 2014 You can't just go into the player count and change the two digit 40 to the three digit 100. If they changed the servers to 100 player count, that would be very stressful on some hardware, and I'm pretty sure that's what they're working on atm.. Correct me if I'm wrong. fnal 206 Posted July 2, 2014 Give them time, my man. They have a lot on their to-do-list and I'm sure 100+ man servers are on there somewhere. It's hard to wait and suppress anger and frustration with a game in alpha but that's all you can do until updates slowly but surely filter down the pipe. TheMachine 803 Posted July 2, 2014 I'm not throwing shit, I know it's an alpha and I respect that the devs are busy. It'd just be nice to know how far down the list this is.
SniperwolfMR 153 Posted July 2, 2014 I think it is time we get AT LEAST 60 man servers. My friends and I traveled from the NWAF all the way to Berenzino, going through all hot spots and saw absolutely nothing on a full pop server. It was so disappointing that I had to put the game down for a week. It is seriously time that the player count gets upped.

One mans meat is another mans poison my good man, maybe players saw you and your death squad coming and decided you were better to avoid, and that's why you didn't see anyone on a full pop server...
SniperwolfMR 153 Posted July 2, 2014 You have a point. But if you think about it...40 players on a map of that size? We all have instances where we have traveled the land for hours and have not seen a single person. This shouldn't be the case. I am not saying that we should be bumping into people every single place we go...but 40 players isn't cutting it anymore. BTW, we're friendly!
cywehner1234 582 Posted July 2, 2014 Alpha. Optimization is needed to do more than 40 in my opinion. Optimization is coming slowing, and it will most likely eventually be reached. But 200 people on a map like chernarus is way too many. 100 is almost too many as well.
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted July 2, 2014 It'd just be nice to know how far down the list this is. After 64 bit server technology is implemented
TheMachine 803 Posted July 2, 2014 (edited) But 200 people on a map like chernarus is way too many. 100 is almost too many as well. I disagree entirely. I count somewhere between 50 and 65 named towns of varying sizes on a full zoomed out map (dayz Ch+ map http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus), not to mention outcrops, other landmarks etc. Wouldn't it just be fucking awesome with 100+ players online and you and your buddies are literally fighting over small towns? Or perhaps becoming friendly the group in the town over and deciding you'll go try to take NWAF together because the beans in this here place are running dry? More players and more human interaction is always good, that's what makes dayz intertesting, whether it's combat, co-operating, trading or what have you, the more people there are - the better. After 64 bit server technology is implemented Care to explain this a little? Edited July 2, 2014 by TheMachine
freethink 984 Posted July 2, 2014 (edited) Could be wrong but I think he said the sweet spot was something like 60 players. The 100 person servers were amazing. I starved to death with two cans and no can opener. Edited July 2, 2014 by freethink
qww 287 Posted July 2, 2014 100 player servers have already been tested on exp, im sure it will return when they want to test it again
Zedertone 378 Posted July 2, 2014 Imo no matter how many people you put on a map, they will still crowd the good loot towns, and little towns will still be abandon, since there's no use in going to them.
n1kko 326 Posted July 3, 2014 Shit, im on a three pop server, two strangers plus myself, and I met one chap at Green Mountain, and the other at Zelenogorsk. Both were friendly, and just as shocked as I was. But on the flip side, 40 pop server, not a single soul to be found ANYWHERE. The complete randomness of the encounters I have is what keeps me playing.
Guest Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) After 64 bit server technology is implementedfyi, 64bit servers are implemented on half of the exp.I'm not surprised if we get more slots per sever this week. Edited July 3, 2014 by Guest
TheMachine 803 Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) Imo no matter how many people you put on a map, they will still crowd the good loot towns, and little towns will still be abandon, since there's no use in going to them. Loot will be fixed at some point in the future and then even small towns will be worthwhile going to, especially if you're a fresh spawn who only wants a starter rifle and some beans. And hey, 100 players online might force people to really scavenge to work their way up the loot chain. The rarity of weapons in the SA is a really good thing (imo it should be lowered even from now, less rifles and assault rifles, more pistols etc). When there's 100+ player servers you may die a lot more and be forced to play in a different way, that's a given. BUT you'll also have a higher number of 'non-fatal' player interactions with people roleplaying as police, medics, heroes etc. You see at the moment I feel like I'm actively looking for other players, instead of trying to avoid them. This isn't good. It'll be epic bros, when the Mogilevka crew rolls on Vyshnoye with the intention of raiding their beans then after a firefight the Zelenogorsk kingpins come in to mop up who eventually get slammed by the NWAF fat cats.
